I awoke this morning to 7+ Spambots with roughly 36 posts each. This new generation of spambots, the kind with 'legit' normal first names like Eleanor or Fred are trouble.
Also I banned Hermosapjn but it looks like it's name is still attached to posts when you click new posts. When you go into the topic they've been banned and clicking on the username reveals they don't exist yet it still shows up as they are there. Biulaiscixn or something is in the same pocket so it's still troublesome.
Meh maybe it'll pass with time.

one of the bots actually had "i'm a spambot waiting to be ban-hammered" (or something along those lines) as one of its links. weird. i was online with a whole bunch of them earlier.

If they haven't made any posts then they're not bothering us. You should've been here when we got hit by an army of them. Ads for Viagra and purses were EVERYWHERE!
If their profile clearly shows that they're here to advertise crap then yeah it's fine, but as of right now the waters are pretty mellow so nothing to worry about.

Say you were a lurker but you wanted to become part of the forums and post and stuff. So you make an account but then you get shy, you keep lurking looking for a place to put input.
The crime bots do is spamming, only in a few cases did we pre-emptively do it, when you get used to the patterns of the bots it's pretty easy to tell when its a bot or not.

Some features of having an account that are useful to lurkers: subscribe to threads for e-mail notifications, keeping track of unread count, theme changing, customized board time.
So yes, some lurkers would want to have an account, even if they never post.
I'd say the fact that said account is logging in to the forums often is proof enough that it isn't a bot, unless it's always online like a spider. Spam bots shouldn't have any reason to "actively" lurk. EDIT: Well, ok, there is one reason a spam bot might actively lurk: to always stay in the logged in list on the forum's front page so people/spiders might go to their profile to see a spam link in their description. But if they don't have a spam link, there shouldn't be a problem.

Err...I dunno man like 500? I can't really recall.
Still it doesn't really matter anyway, it's just a symbol you don't get any special privileges (he says in the topic about giving special privileges).
Just make sure your posts are relevant and not spam and it'll come around eventually, though as far as I know roleplay forum posts don't count but the badge really doesn't matter.
