That is one of the best and most valid opinions here right now.

Back on topic, no matter how horrible the movie may be, I'm still going to see it. The thing that pissed me off the most out of what I've seen so far was what they did to Uncle. D= He's not fat anymore...

Seconded. My fan-boyism will make me watch it even if it is crap. AND WHAT NO FAT IROH?! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

Just saw it today, and I must say, I'm not disappointed. But that's only because I had low expectations to begin with. For an Avatar fan, it is definitely worth watching, but many parts will piss you off.

About the race thing: It was actually quite diverse in the movie if you look apart from the main characters. The Earth benders were mostly Asian, so there goes that complaint, the Fire benders were... I have no idea. Indonesian? I'm bad at telling races apart, so sorry if I'm wrong. Southern Water benders were Indian, Northern were Caucasian [I think], and the Air benders were kind of a mix of several races.

Now, onto the actual movie...
Spoiler: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
The movie seemed to rush through the story, but that's to be expected since they crammed an entire season into one movie. Aang, Katara, and Sokka barely had any interaction and many parts of the story were very... different from the show. Pretty much EVERYTHING in the movie was pronounced wrong. Aang was pronounced Ong, Sokka was Sooka or something retarded like that, Iroh was Eeroh, and even Yin and Yang was pronounced incorrectly. Wtf. The bending was rather slow. They would take like two minutes doing their martial arts moves before something actually happened. The only person who actually was smart enough to use that to their advantage was Sokka [him? Smart? What has this world come to?], who crotch-kicked a Fire bender when they were still doing their fancy bending motions. Another great example of their slowness is when like ten earthbenders were stomping and shaking the ground, and a rock about the size of your hand flew at the Fire soldier. WTF is with that build-up for nothing!?

Surprisingly, many character's personalities were almost perfect. Aang was close, but a little too serious and dull, Sokka would have been perfect if the writers didn't suck, Katara was just perfect; just as dull as she is in the show, Iroh wasn't quite as cryptic as he should have been, but was still alright, what'sherfaceprincesslady was pretty much in character, Zuko was actually kinda badass in this movie, which I loved, and the Fire Lord and...commander what'shisface sucked big time. At the very end, the crazy bitch looked and sounded quite in character, but we won't know for sure until the next movie.

Overall, it's worth seeing if you like the show [even if it is horribly inaccurate], but if you don't watch the show, it's only worth watching for the special effects.

Oh, and slightly off-topic, I ran into one of my friends after the movie, and guess what? She was cosplaying as Toph. XD I thought it was so random... She's always been like that though, so I wasn't surprised.

Well I guess having PoC in minor roles is better than no roles at all. XD Still, the major characters are so white they make Justin Bieber look Cambodian.

And admittedly, this is far better than that atrocity of a movie '21'.

Sorry guys for my outrage, it's all because of a recent drama on LJ over a fanfic depicting white characters falling in love in with the backdrop of Haitian suffering, and I'm still smarting over that. Tumultuous times in my fandoms.
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn?
But that's alright because I like the way it hurts

I would ask you to go into detail of this stupidity. But maybe not at this venue.

A short summary of what happaned

or

A comprehensive review of the beginning and fallout with many many links to other user's responses, etc

You can't imagine how BIG this got. Tbh I feel bad for the author too lol
Don't you wish there will be a day when we no longer have to talk about race?

I don't mean to be cheeky, but that part--the part that the main characters are white and all the diversity is in the extras/villains--is the entire point of the argument. There are lots of movies that have PoC extras and backdrop. It's not really "progress" until you let one take the lead.
