So we have a new Teen Titans series coming up in 2013.
You think they can go the distance once again?

Teen Titans was great, because it had a great mix of comic and series moments. Turning it into a pure comedy, though, is...

Well, I'd rather have Teen Titans over Young Justice any day.

Oh god... the chibi artstyle just DOESN'T work for this show, and pure comedy is just too much considering it already had a good amount of comedy in it. SMH.

At first, I was excited about them bringing back such a great show, but after hearing it was going to be so humor-heavy, I don't think I'm going to watch it. Pure comedy has always been a turn off for me since it gets old fast, and the original series had enough seriousness to it to balance out the humor. And that crapime chibi style made me puke up some kawaiisugoinekodesune, whatever the hell that is. If you're going to touch an old show, either bring it back the way it was or make it better, not turn it into something it's not.

So, I'll just go sit in a corner and hope that they don't make lighthearted version of Courage the Cowardly Dog or make a serious version of Ed, Edd, and Eddy while they're at it.

Seems like most cartoon shows are turning more kid themed instead of a good serious tone and I had hoped they leave off with the monster they fought in the last episode.

Teen Titans was particularly good, in my opinion, due to its ability to appeal to a range of sensibilities and audiences, and its ability to handle rather dark material in a way that was appropriate, compelling, and usually (though not always) respectful to the source material without underplaying it or underestimating the capacity young audiences had to comprehend it.

Its appeal to many broad audiences had much less to do with its humor than its story-driven episodes. In fact, I find that the "funny!" episodes are usually obnoxious and I didn't like watching them when I was a smaller person. And the characters themselves, without the few character-developing moments that most former fans of the series can readily recall, aren't all that interesting. Sorry, but main cast of five are overtly archetypal and dull and the side characters who weren't were rarely on-screen.

While Teen Titans was actually the first cartoon series I really watched (I wasn't allowed to see a lot of kids' programming as a younger child) and therefore very near and dear to my heart, I'm not excited for a series of short, strictly comedic episodes. Frankly, I just don't see what would make those interesting enough to go out of my way to watch as an older person who is nonetheless nostalgic about the older series.

I would love to see something more similar to the Teen Titans Go! comic book series. Those were my life when I was 13-14.

I thought Raven had pretty good character growth/development over the series.

There was definitely some character development, although I think they struggled to maintain character development from episode to episode. My point is more that those character development episodes really made the show -- a lot of people remember those, but pick a random throwaway comedic villain and most of the people who haven't watched since they were young will have forgotten about him.

This is the first I've heard of this o3o
Well, official news anyway. Back in middle school, I would stay up past 10 (GASP) to watch Teen Titans, and I made sure to watch every single episode. I have the first two seasons on DVD and I need the rest... which I will obtain soon, hopefully.

I really loved Teen Titans, LOVED it. It was only about a year after the show ended that I started to branch out to other shows, and I think it was this show that convinced me to start watching anime again. I loved the comedy, the action, the plot-heavy episodes, and most of all I enjoyed the interaction between the main characters (this was also very indicative of what I would obsess over later, if Persona 4 and the Avengers bring anything to mind).

Now, about this news... I'm psyched that the whole cast is back, and I thought all the Teen Titans shorts on the DC block were cute. But... I'm really hesitant about it. I mean, I'm definitely giving it a chance and it's gonna hit me with supreme nostalgia, but I'm not sure if full-on comedy is the way to go. I think the balance it had was what made it work.
Oh well, I'll just reserve my judgment for when I actually see it. :yogi:

I came at the mention of the dog. Nah jk. I really liked the original, especially Mumbo, Control Freak, and Mad Mod. Hope they're in there.
