And by that, I mean the release of the Final Harry Potter book.

Personally, I'm planning to visit my local bookshops at the midnight openings, and see if there's either some nutter in costume, or assholes who plan to spoil the book for me to beat up.

Hopefully, it'll be more lively than when the PS3 got released.

I definitely want to see how it ends; the books have been around since I was eleven, and while I may not be as interested in them as I used to be, I'm still attached to them. I'm just not sure when I'll get around to reading it; I might pick up a copy after they first come out, or I might wait for a few days first.

I'm.... not going to a bookstore at midnight.

I will buy the book eventually, I wanna know how the story ends and all, but I'm not that big of a fan, and anyway, midnight here would be freezing cold.

...

I just hope no one spoils stuff for me >.>

I lost all respect for J.K. Rowling as an author after HP6. Her writing skills have self-destructed. The 5th book might've been kind of poor (gonna find out what the movie is worth tomorrow), but the 6th was a disaster. It's like she doesn't care anymore, only about making money from movies. It's a disgrace. Half-Blood Prince should be named Half-Arsed Book.

I'll read the 7th book. But I'm not going to buy it. :grey:

HP5 was great. Since they've been getting shorter again, they've been naf. Rowling earns like £200,000 a day or something. Sickening.

I'll be at the book store. At midnight. And calling off sick the next day at work so I can read it before some dumbfuck ruins it for me.. Because I can so hear the "X KILLS Y" already and I would have to go all rabid and actually harm someone...
...As for being in costume.. We joked about me pulling my high school graduation robes out, slapping a fake tattoo of Harry's scar on my head and sending me out as a genderbent Harry, but we also talked about it last time, but I have a bit too much self respect for that.

I'll be going at midnight to get it. I've been doing so every release since book 4, actully. I'm really looking forward to this one... espeically since the movie's gotten me really hyped about HP in general.

Huh, to be honest I'm half-excited and half-dreading it. Excited because it's like, well, the end of an era in the literary world if you think about it xP That, and I want to see what happens - I'm pleading with all my might that the ending's a good one.

I'm dreading it because Half-Blood Prince was...not quite as satisfying as I had hoped it would be. I can't help thinking that this is going down the same negative route, and I'm not a negative person in the least so to get me actually thinking like that is enough to set off alarm bells. That, and the English cover really puts me off. xD I know, I know. Don't judge a book by it's cover, literally, but you can't say that the monstrosity on the front of DH makes you want to read it more.

Nevertheless, I will be buying it. Not going at midnight for it because I am lazy and I don't like fighting through hordes of far more hardcore fans for it. I'll just pick on up at Savacentre or ASDA or something.

The cover is CRAP. Utter crap. I don't get why what might be the bestselling fiction of all time has such an apalling cover illustation. I really want to get the "adult" cover (I dunno about the US, but over here the books have two covers; the "children" one, like Harry and the Hogwarts express, in the flying car, with Hermione on Buckbeak, etc, and an "Adult" one, which has a photograph-quality cover; the philosopher's (fine; sorcerer's) stone, Azkaban prison and so on) and they look much cooler and more mature. The only reason I don't want to get the adult one is because every HP book I've had thus far has been the children one and I don't want to make my collection odd. >.>

(The reason they're long is that they're wraparounds, one big picture on both the front and the back. Like the front of the book with the title is just harry, you don't see Voldemort unless you look on the back.

So far I've heard a lot of people saying, "I'm just gonna get it to finish out the series, I'm not expecting much from it..."

...So THAT'S how they're selling these worthless crap books to us! I haven't enjoyed the series very much since Goblet of Fire.

And yes, for the record, I'm going to get a copy just so I can finish out the series. Damn me being a marketing pawn.

Heh, yeah I agree Tajiri. It's totally crazy that even people who go on and on about how the books are slipping are buying the final one. But you've gotta admit, somebody would have to have absolutely no curiousity at all to not read it after reading all the other books.

I've just actually been looking properly at the UK crap cover... what is that thing behind Harry? It kinda looks like Dobby... Is that Gryffindor's sword?

I've been enjoying the books less (they peaked at Azkaban, I think), but I still like them a lot. I think I'd like it more if I wasn't absolutely terrified of its fandom, though. The sheer volume of rabid HP fans terrifies me. o.O
They're good books... just overrated.

It kinda looks like he's about to try and chop Harry's head off or something, and if you look at Hermione and Harry they look like they've been cut up a bit, so I don't think it's supposed to be Dobby. I reckon that thing behind Harry might be Kreacher. Though god knows with this cover. It could be a bad rendition of VOLDEMORT for all we know.

Mm, that's true. Are they getting sucked into that... archway-thing? They all kinda look like they're tying to get away and the hand looks a little like it's dragging them back in...

Ooh, and for the record, the UK covers have been very crap of late. The HBP one:

Spoiler:

GoF's was crap, too. The only really nice one was OotP, since that just had Fawkes on for whatever reason. Yes, I know it was the Order of the Phoenix, but it's not like he has a main part, is it?

Haha Phoenix. God, I'm pathetic.

Hmm, actually I just thought...wouldn't it make sense if they were in Gringrotts? With all the gold around them, and that little goblin-lookin' thing behind them it makes sense. I remember something from the first book as well, something like that Gringrotts had padlocks that sucked people inside if anybody but a Gringrotts goblin tried to unlock it

...hey, makes sense to me xP

Well, they have to be banking on curiosity, because it's not like the covers are selling these things. :redd: You're right, there's a dizzyingly vast array of deranged Potter-heads out there, and they do tend to freak me out with how seriously they take everything...

Spoiler: Order of the Phoenix, although now since the movie's out and all it's nearly pointless
After OotP had been out a little while I got a mass e-mail being sent around among some friends of friends talking about Sirius's death like it was the end of the world. 0_o "OMG, they killed Sirius! Oh noes! I'm so mad at J.K.!" ...And I hadn't read it yet, the bastards, it was barely out!

Haha, after the (two most recent) books came out, I'd carry it around with me everywhere reading it, and I'd get lots of people asking me who dies at the end and I'll never tell. People who intentionally spoil things are annoying, selfish and a whole host of other unpleasant things.

Ooh, Gringotts is a good idea. Judging by the cover (and how HBP left off) jewels and coins and such are going to be important, so Gringotts would be a good place.
Plus, I think Diagon Alley will be of some importance, simply because I think Ollivander's going to be some evil guy in the end.

So, me and this friend of mine walked into a Barnes and Nobles and noticed how close to the doors the giant "Deathly Hallows" carbdoard cutout was.

We looked around, quietly picked it up, and walked off.

You may have a leaked copy of the book, but I have a giant Harry cardboard cutout.

I rather thought the ending was a bit anti-climatic and confusing. I agree, though, the epilogue seems like something out of a really shitty fanfiction.
