Well he was frozen in suspended animation, so it doesn't count. XD

Anyway, here's the breakdown:
At the beginning Aang is 12, Katara is 14, Sokka is 15, and Zuko is 16.

The fact that Aang is the freaking avatar kind of nullifies the whole age thing. I'm sure any girl would go for the most-famous most-powerful man on the world, even if he was two years younger than her :P.

I want to get hyped up, but... Its Shyamalan. He already has it everywhere on the trailer that its "M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender". I didn't even think Sixth Sense was as great as everyone says, and everything else he's done has been blehh (although I did like The Village for some strange reason). Sixth Sense sort of started the whole psychological thriller thing, but its nowhere near the level of Chris Nolan's Memento and others.

Also, I'm kind of worried after seeing the trailer... Aang never smiles, never even talks. I hope this isn't going to be too serious... Although it could be Shyamalan's just making the trailer super serious to make it seem less of a "cartoon for kids", which would actually be a good move, imo.

Not to mention, the casting's had me huffing and puffing for quite a while, but I suppose I can let it pass... :edgeworth:

I've got so many mixed feelings here, so I'm very hesitant to board the hype train. It's whatever, though.

The shot of Aang screaming makes me think this is going to be full of bad, stupid over-emotion =\

Exactly. Not too mention the shot where Katara was doing her hope speech and the extremely cheesy narrator. I wouldn't be too surprised if Sokka doesn't have one sarcastic comment...

If the film's Sokka doesn't have Sokka's personality, and Aang is a dead-serious 12-year-old, with Katara just giving motivational speeches, this movie just can't be good.

I doubt Toph would be in the movie. (As much as I like her, she probably was put onto the show too late to use her, unless they just shoehorn her in somehow.)

Despite the whitewashing of the cast, some rather strange acting choices, and the overall dubiousness of the director's reputation, the trailers look impressive at least. I think they made this movie for the kids who are probably more accepting than us older fans, so as long as it's a visual feast filled with epic 3D CGI effects then the targeted audience probably won't be complaining much.

Although sometimes I really think cinema adaptations should be handled by people who actually care about replicating the originals as opposed to churning out a money-making scheme. I.e. get fans to help out. lol

Well, Avatar is awesome, and Shyamalan's kids ARE fans, so hopefully the movie won't suck, lol.

But I still don't like the cast. Seriously. =_=

Clearly the casting director isn't a fan however! If she/he were, we wouldn't be so annoyed with the cast selection would we? lolol

Also I doubt Shyamalan is a fan either. Seems like a desperate/drunkedn choice by the producers or something.

In all honesty the casting isn't that bad. If you consider for about half a second the show, while deeply rooted in Asian culture, none of the main 3 characters are very Asian in appearance or voice acting. I love the series and the movie looks like it'll be pretty decent, I'm not going to make judgments of faithfulness to the show based on the trailer, but the trailer itself is gorgeous.

I'm gonna see it.

I can't wait to see it! It's gonna be awesome. Even though the cast isn't Asian. We shouldn't be racist against them. But I just don't think Zuko looks like Zuko. (nothing against race)

I agree with Sparkleranger, but I still think he'll do a good acting job as Zuko. I'm just happy that Jesse McCartney couldn't do it. [Sigh]

Now that would have been the only casting choice I'd have disagreed with.

Has this trailer been posted already? It's a short one, but has some new content. It's mostly emphasized on water, fire and earthbending.

The fx look amazing, IMO. The only thing I'm worrying about right now is how the main characters' personalities are gonna be, since that hasn't been shown.

I have never been so excited for a movie! It looks so good and I love Jackson Rathbone as Sokka. I wish they made Zuko's scar a little more defined...It kinda looks like it isn't there... :adrian:

I think Zuko's scar being less defined was kind of a good choice. It would be kinda unsettling to see a live human, who's a main character, and thus going to be seen a lot, with that giant scar.

Er. No. You guys are the ones who are ignorant, racist and not thinking about the bigger picture. It's not just about the casting, but the implications that there is rampant surreptitious racism in the film industry and apparently everyone is colourblind.

Airbender isn't about casting Asians, but People of Color (PoC), that includes Inuits (which is what Katara and Sokka are). Do you even need for someone to spell it out for you? The lack of actors representing characters who are clearly people of colour should be that obvious. Even the creators of the original animated series have stated that they would have handled the casting very differently, and were very supportive of the racebending.com campaign.

You cannot call thousands of people who have submitted very eloquent, intelligent and rationally presented written objections to the casting as stupid or lazy or 'just didn't think AT ALL' because that only highlights your own ignorance and white privilege.

You really need to educate yourselves before you start talking about things you know nothing about.

EDIT: I respect your opinions that the casting is fine and that you'll like the movie, but that doesn't mean your opinion is right or that it is free of prejudice and racism. Just because you can't see the problems and reflected social stereotypes, doesn't mean it does not exist.
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn?

... Much apologies, I had not read the objections, nor had I seen the casting. In all honesty, I agree with you. The whole 'no Asians' argument is BS, but the lack of People of Color as actors as a whole is a true problem, and after seeing some of the arguments, I agree with them.

Sorry to come off as an ignorant asshole, merely had not seen the entire picture.
