The anime, while not remarkably outstanding or anything, has significantly improved over the last season or two. It does use more of the game mechanics (abilities and natures, to be specific), and the quality of the attacks have been improved. Ash does lose fairly often, usually in ways that aren't too unbelievable for Pokémon, though most of these losses have been to the same opponent on different occasions.

That's not to say the show is perfect, or that you should glue yourself to the TV and watch it, but it is at least worth a glance if you still like the games.

I recall there was a third rap (for the 3rd generation/Hoenn) as well, though I don't think there's an official video for it.

I personally think ts a good show, people just have to face the fact that its made for kids, it doesn't matter if its repetitive, the kids don't care.

Though, if there is a next season(Likely chance) then they should really timeskip it and pass the torch to a new main character.

Agreed! Ash/Satoshi has been ten-years-old for a LONG TIME!

But then again, so was Bart Simpson. :lana:

I remember way back in the day when Pokemon Red and Blue were the hottest things around. Hell, several months after they released both versions, I got a copy of Blue version for Christmas. Then one month later I go to Target and they're sold out of Red versions! :beef: It was like how the Wii is now. I always used to watch the first season (even the reruns) and I was always dissapointed that Ash lost at the Pokemon League. The Orange Islands season was cool too.

Then Johto Journeys came out and I quit watching. I was also more into Digimon around that time so that plays a part as well. Now I just like Pokemon for he games but I think I'm even slipping away from those. My brothers, however, love Pokemon. So much so that they play pretend Pokemon and often ask me the most obvious questions about it.

i.e. "Hey, Sam! Is Infernape a fire-type???"

*sigh* Change is so hard...

I OBJECT TO THE TOPIC TITLE.
POKEMON IS NOT A GUILTY PLEASURE.
IT IS MERELY A PLEASURE :D

No, seriously, I prefer the games to the anime by far, and hundreds of eppies of the same plotline each time DOES get repetitive..but. But it's Pokemon. You have to love Pokemon :D

If only because James and Brock are the best things to ever grace a television screen <3333

Team Rocket is still in the anime.

I watched an episode of Diamond and Pearl today on Cartoon Network called, Mutiny in the Bounty. It was completly different than all the other episodes. Ash, Brock, and Dawn were headed for Floaroma city, and they met this Pokemon Hunter lady that was really good at stealing Pokemon. I haven't seen any Pokemon villains like her. She's very successful at stealing Pokemon, unlike Team Rocket. They called her, J, and I'm looking forward to more episodes with her in it. The preview for the next episode looks like it goes back to the regular types of stories though.

^ That was wonderful and I love it.

I really liked some of the Chronicles episodes that aired a while ago; the ones where Ash didn't actually make an appearance in any of the, but they focused on other people, like Brock back at Pewter Gym, Misty back in Cerulean, Team Rocket doing hilarious things, Ritchie doing stuff, Oak and Gary at the Lab... and a three-episode arc about a trainer with a Typhlosion who teams of with some other new trainers to save Raikou from some new TR members (one of which was changed to a girl in the English dub; this is actually mentioned in the ikkikon skit Asil mentioned). It was really good, actually.

The only thing I like about Pokemon is the games, they were amazing(some of them). First few episodes of the dub were great too. It got boring and repetitive after that. I've never watched the Jpanese version, is it better?

I missed pokemon. I've watched it since it premiered in America(I remember it was on the channel UPN38). I've lost track after Master Quest, and then watched Diamond/Pearl. I loved seeing Ash dressed up like a girl(I think he did twice). :wendy: I still think Pikachu is a girl just because "she's" voiced by a woman(Rachel Lillis and Ikue Ohtani)(two women).

I have this Pikachu shirt and.....been having it since 4th grade and I can still fit in it. So cute! >.> My first Pokemon game was Pokemon Crystal(reason: female protagonist), collected Pokemon Trading Cards, collected toys(Pichu <3), and Pokemon guides(pokedex, game guides, chapter books).

I think Ash is, chronologically, is 14 now. When the first episode of Advanced Generation premiered, Ash said that he's been a Pokemon trainer for 3 years. After or somewhere in Hoenn, he turned 14. Either that or he drank the fountain of youth. >_>

I'm such a damn nerd >_>

Heh, Ashy boy.

Bah, I lost you guys after Pokemon Red (and I don't know where in the anime, probably before Johto).

What my friends have been saying about the series is turning out like Power Rangers. The good initial releases and went downhill from there.

Yeeeeeah, I got all the Chronicles on DVD. The best episode was clearly "Training Daze" about Team Rocket when before they got the job of Team Rocket. It always touches me that episode.

Oh and The Legend of Thunder with Jimmy (the Typhlosion trainer) is actually a movie. Without a mini-movie. It's really nice and considering Quilava is my favorite Pokemon I like Typho too.

I'm such a Poketard. Everyday I go on Bulbapedia (Pokemon Wikipedia site)

And I still have two binders of cards! I've got a shiny called "Shining Gyarados" (the red one) and I heard that it sells for over $150!

You know, this topic makes me want to watch the show again :3

I used to be a fan of the show way before the thing came to Finland, thanks to German TV. Pokemon is what introduced to Anime and taught a lot of German to me, two things I consider important in my life. I quit watching the show around Johto league because I lost the German channel I used to watch it on (You won't see me watch the Finnish dub, never. Okay sometimes >____>) and after that I grew tired of it. Later I got the channel back and used to watch some episodes when I was bored (Some episodes where May and Max appeared in). Now I don't have the German channel anymore so I can't watch the wonderful German dub.

Bulbasaur has always been my favorite Pokemon and will always be. I just want to squeeze that thing <3333

Also, Monster Rancher <3

I think it's the fault of the writers that they didn't give up Ash a long time ago instead of making the main character one of the players for every gen in the video games that come out. So, we're stuck with him and his random deux ex machina destructiveness.

And why should you watch the show again?

THIS IS THE REASON YOU SHOULD WATCH THE SHOW AGAIN

That and the overall improvement of the show such as implementing many of the video game mechanics and better Pokemon personalities. And we finally have an physically abusive trainer character...lovely. (Johto was an epic fail season; amirite?!)

I play Diamond, and I've seen Diamond and Pearl (the show). I don't know WHEN this happened, but I HATE Ash's new english voice. They screwed that up pretty badly. Also, Dawn was cute, but she got too angry all the time. (It was amusing the first few times...)

Also, the D/P show actually gave a NEW cookie cutter experience... from what I've heard (and seen, for the first two gyms), Ash LOSES the first time at the gyms, and THEN wins the second time.

So the League wasn't enough? -.-

I miss the old Pokemon. That is all. (Hell, I still play Red and Gold, both carts I still own... too bad my Silver went missing YEARS ago. And I know exactly what happened to it.)

4kids was the original dubber of Pokemon and thus the new voice cast. It's only Ash's that really stands out, you can't even tell what changed in the other recurring characters.

And what's great in this season that at least things come off as realistic. Dawn only one a single contest. A SINGLE ONE. And we are already on around the 50th episode. She lost every single contest and so far there was an episode in which she had a breakdown and started gyms for a while.

Brock actually had some character development with an egg Pokemon that was surprisingly not useless like Togepi.

And Paul? My god best character ever after Harley. Bastard-jackass-jerk ftw?!

I like the 4Kids dubbing of Pokemon, to be honest. I mean of course they had to localize it so American kids would get some of the jokes, but I find Pokemon to be one of the much better dubbed anime out there.

I haven't seen the Nintendo dub version yet, but I've heard some bad things. =/

I've stopped watching it... not because it's crap or anything, just because over here it broadcast way too early (about 6am) on weekends :sob:

I do feel though, that since the Johto adventures ended, that the series has gone dramatically downhill.

I still play the games though (up to Sapphire/LeafGreen gen).

Too bad that the only place 4Kids didn't screw up in dubbing was Pokemon and that was taken away from. Ash's and Brock's new voices suck, but Dawn's voice I think is pretty good.

By the way, I always hated May.

What are you talking about? Johto was the worst season IMO. Hoenn and D&P greatly improved and redeemed themselves from Johto's downfall.

Anyway, the new (I shouldn't even say new anymore since it's past the first season of D&P) VA of Ash greatly improved in the Darkrai movie. I even thought she was Veronica Taylor for a while. >:

After the first "season" (basically everything before the Orange Islands) I felt it went downhill. Orange Islands was okay, but not as good as the original. And Johto took forever to get anywhere.

I really preferred the "Pokemon Adventures" comic. It (consistently) had better characters, better plots, and better character development than the anime. But Viz quit translating it after volume 7, and if I want English translations I gotta order them all the way from Singapore (and they're of somewhat lower quality).

YAY MAY HATERS <3
I can't hate pokemon. 'Twas my first game.
First season was epic. My parents loved it because it had me drawing and imagining. And it kept me quiet for a half hour. But when Misty left.
UNGRACEFUL DOWNHILL TUMBLE.
Fuckin' hate May. "LULZ I HATE POKEMON, BUT I GOTS ONE NOW SO I LIKE 'EM. I WANNA ENTER CONTESTS WHEEE I WIN. OH NO RIVAL/LOVE INTEREST. WHEE I GET SUPER EEVEE/BLAZIKEN/BULBASAUR WITH SPECIAL MARKING. OH I DIDN'T WIN SUPER CONTEST OH WELL I STILL HAVE MY SPIRIT AND MY SHORT SKIRT HURHURHUR." That's why Harley was possibly the only post-Johto character I liked.
Misty was freaking awesome. I miss her. She sent me the message that "Hey, girls can like this stuff, too!" But now I just watch the old episodes on Boomerang. And some tapes I have.

And, hey, just a tidbit..I recall that photographer kid being named Snap (trust me, I had the tape and watched it ALL the time). But in the recap, it was edited to Todd, and he currently goes by that. Anyone else notice?

Well you see... 4Kids seemed to operate in the reverse of most dubbing companies. They start out awesome enough and slowly starts to decline in quality and popularrity due to the possibility of getting a shiny new pair of scissors from the FCC for such good work, which then becomes their downfall as they use those scissors to cut through any and all scenes that are important to the plot.

I stopped watching it because it was incredibly repetitive after a while.

Normal episode:

Meet a character (usually female, for some reason), who does stuff with a new Pokémon Ash & Co. haven't seen yet. This is the only new Pokémon you'll see this episode.
Team Rocket sees Pikachu/New Pokémon, devise a sucky plan and get blasted of again.
Happy ending.

Of course, there are a lot of exceptions to this, but even those have a pattern (especially the gym leader things). I don't know about the newer series though, they might be better. Or something.
