Hey now, if you say it like that, I might just watch it for the sole sake of figuring out why I shouldn't watch it.

There is one reason.

jojo is a fun show with a unique art style, cool characters, and tons of references to popular music; plus the manga essentially started the action-shounen genre (before even dragon ball z)

cowboy bebop has an excellent story, great character development, a stellar soundtrack, and the setting is awesome. it's very easy to enjoy, and it crosses so many different genres (sci-fi, western, mystery, noir, kung-fu)

As someone who recently picked up JoJo, I can say it's a very fun anime that does a ton of crazy anime stuff and just runs with it.

The beginning arc, Phantom Blood, is relatively dull to okay, but the second arc, Battle Temdency, was a lot of insane fun, with battles that play like some kind of fantasy chess match, characters with ridiculous yet awesome powers, and more cheese and silliness than a clown made of gooey nachos. It does tend to get kinda gorey and gross at times, and there's about as much depth as a kitchen sink, so it's not really FMA or Trigun levels of anime philosophy and such.

I suggest watching Phantom Blood (the first 9 or 10 episodes of JoJo) to try and get a taste of it, then continue to Battle Tendency if you like what you see. Battle Tendency has (imo) much more interesting characters, vastly more entertaining battles. The only other thing I can say about it is that JoJo is one of the anime that I've seen that feels somewhat earnest; in that it doesn't feel like pandering moe or wish-fullfilment shonen. It feels like there's a story here that a person wanted to tell; after they guzzled an entite container of Smile Dip.

Also, FMA is amazing watch that. There's debate about Brotherhood vs 2003 but I'd say that you can't go wrong with either.

If you count The Conquerer of Shamballa, I wasn't particularly happy with how the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime ended. Even if you don't watch the movie, I wasn't really happy with how that series ended. I'm currently working my way through Brotherhood, so I can't comment on how that one ended.

However, I'd say both are definitely worth watching. I will warn you though, if you watch FMA first (which you really should anyway), the first several episodes of Brotherhood are largely going to feel like déjà vu. It isn't until Greed is introduced where the stories really start diverging. You could probably get away with watching the first episode, then skipping ahead to Greed's introduction, but you'd miss out on some subtle nuances here and there.

Basically, if you watch Brotherhood and get tired of the rehashed segments, just skip to Greed's introduction. However, if you can stick it out, do so.

EDIT: Having finished Brotherhood, it is my personal opinion that it is the superior of the two series. Better villain, better ending, and even marginally better animation. :godot:

^ Brotherhood was the original manga storyline. I like it better than the original FMA.

But you got to admit, the story of the first FMA was really good. I didn't even know it was an original filler until I'd looked it up.

.

As for my recommendations (I have a LOT, but am trimming them down).

Akatsuki no Yona
Assassination Classroom
The Twelve Kingdoms
Kill la Kill
Tiger and Bunny

I absolutely hate Jojo so I'll refrain from giving a subjective answer. As for CB, which I liked to an extent : it's an extremely stylised show, with impredictable music in a wide variety of genres popping up at the most unexpected moment, colorful character design, dynamic direction, tons of action and a very strong atmosphere going from quirky to dark...many episodes make you feel like you're watching some sort of music clip, if that makes sense. However, if we're being honest here, there's barely any plot, and what's there is really some very basic mob story, with half of the five plot-relevant episodes being mindless shootings. Many of the filler episodes are also incredibly uninteresting and random. Cowboy bebop pretty much embodies "style over substance".

I liked Cowboy Bebop mostly because of Spike, Jet, and the Space Western setting. I didn't mind the "plot of the week" setting either, since most anime I watch is very arc-oriented unless it's a comedy, so this was kind of an interesting change from the norm for me. What I didn't like the fact that what little arc there was didn't have a strong enough presence to make me care about it. Also, I hated Faye Valentine.

I'd watch the series again if someone wanted to watch it with me, but I wouldn't watch it again by myself (Compare to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Steins;Gate, Spice and Wolf, or Death Note, which I'd easily watch again by myself if I was in the mood).

On that note, my ranking for anime series is as follows...

1: Would watch it again by myself if I was in the mood (the best rating).

2: Would introduce the series to a friend and watch it with them.

3: Would watch the series with a friend if they wanted me to watch it with them.

4: Would not watch the series again, even if a friend wanted me to watch it with them.

5: I'd tell my friends not to watch this series.

Casshern Sins is at the bottom of my list. Seriously, don't watch that one. It's long, drawn out, boring, and ultimately goes nowhere. Not to mention, pretty much every episode follows the exact same formula as the last one, and not in a good way.
