first of all, the characters sucks, and they don't have any slightest resemblance to the anime/manga. They're not even right!! Bulma's hair is blue,, master roshi is bald.
What a failure. And gokus's hair looks like shit.

And the story is not good enough.

Wait....this movie has a "story"?

Wait... Yes, Dragon Ball has a "story". It's not all about mindless violence, it's also about love, romance, drama, acrobatics...

Epic lulz. Judging by the emo poses he's done for the photos so far and his ridiculous wardrobe/hair/character concept, I'm not sure it's physically possible for me to dislike their pick for Goku any more than I already do. I'm OKAY with taking liberties as long as you stay true to the spirit of the series... but it just doesn't feel that way. Oh, but I'll have lots of fun going to see it on the last day it's out in theaters, when no-one else is there, and pulling a little MST with my friends. That's what I did for Speed Racer (which is a guilty pleasure), but I hopefully won't have to do for Cowboy Bebop...

Well, the lady playing Bulma has let slip that there's going to be an 8 foot monster/8 foot man in it. So people are speculating that it's either a REALLY small Oozaru or a really tall Raditz. XD Personally, I'd say it's that nice robot, or Raditz, but I'm in the minority either way.

In all fairness, I think it's pretty hard to screw up a project like Cowboy Bebop. I mean, c'mon! There's no way in hell they CAN'T make a near-accurate anime/movie portrayal compared to the Dragonball movie!
The chances are just too slim....!

(I'm gonna have a swarm of Star Wars fans comin' after me for this....)
Okay, something tells me this guy doesn't get Goku....perhaps a sign of what to expect?
I can see how he would compare him with Luke....as pop culture icons.
But, that's where the similarities end.
(Let's not even compare powers/abilities...those are just too obvious.)

Cowboy Bebop??? Actually... that would work as a film. Cowboy Bebop is quite film-like and there's no special effects or anything. All they need is Vicious, a bounty or two, the 4 main characters, Julia and some nice jazz music in the background and it might be able to work. But maybe that's just me. Of course, they'll need to be careful with Ed :-P

About the Dragonball movie, I think that's gonna go wrong. All the special effects and kamehamehas and fast fighting and everything - how will they do it? And I think Bulma should at least have blue highlights. It'll be interesting though... I had a dream last night where Dragonball Z came back on Cartoon Network :maya:

I maintain hope that it will be an enjoyable movie, but I know that as far as Hollywood is involved, there's a LOT of room to fuck it up. Here's hoping it's good, though!

I enjoyed the live action adaptation of Sailor Moon made in Japan, so I'd like to think that you can have just the right amount of cheesy costuming and special effects and be a ton of fun to watch. But this version of Dragon Ball looks like it's taking itself too seriously...

Here's the JPN live-action Sailormoon opening:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmdENBgBlmY
An interesting take on the series. I might have a few peeves, but the outfits look surprisingly good (and "accurate"?)and they do make some effort to maintain an "anime-ish" feel to the show. You'll get what I mean when you watch the opening.

Also, here is a pilot opening to a 1994 Toon Makers "Sailor Moon" project (mistakenly referred to as "Saban Moon", even though Saban had no part in this). They were trying to sell it off in the US by remaking the show, mixing in animation w/ live-action. Fortunately for us all, Toei canned the idea, claiming that it was "more expensive" than just simply dubbing it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B4_VCeHfjo
This is the kind of "anime bastardization" that even 4Kids can't top. :redd:
No anime dub, no anime-based movie -- past, present, or future -- can top the epic failure that is "Saban Moon".
I can say a lot more about this one, but I'll spare myself the backlash.

There is NO WAY the Dragonball movie can suck THIS BAD.
.....

HOLY SHIT. XD That was educational; thanks for the link. Good lord, I will never be so harsh on the Dic dub of Sailor Moon again.

Yeah, there were some hard-to-stomach moments from "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon" (as the live action version is frequently referred to) like Super Sailor Moon's OMG PMS and Venus's annoying bout of some-terminal-disease-or-another, but by and large, I LOVE that show. If you haven't seen it yet and you're a fan of the series, I highly recommend it. The fact that the plot was kind of mix of the manga and anime plus new storylines didn't really bother me. (Dark Mercury FTW!) Also, live action Mamoru/Darien is REAAAAAAALLLY hot.

Anyway, as I said, I think the problem with this new Dragon Ball adaptation is that it takes itself too seriously. It's friggin' Dragon Ball, for heaven's sake! It's supposed to be light and funny, and even a little cheesy. LOL, the lead actor's emo-ass photo shoots. And oh, James Marsters, where has your career gone? -_-

High quality trailer.

Not bad. Just one problem:
IT'S NOT DRAGONBALL!
It's kinda like Catwoman (yes, THAT one): it's a series "movie-by-name".
Take Street Fighter the Movie. If you took out all references about the game from the movie, it would've been a semi-decent 90s action flick.
Yes, I said it....and I'll say this, too: SMB the movie is beyond salvation.

First, I hope they don't show DB/DBZ/GT on CN. The series has already been immortalized; let some new blood into the spotlight already!

Secondly, you mean it's not popular NOW?
They just brought out a game several months ago, didn't they?!
Dragonball is to mainstream anime as Star Wars is to mainstream science-fiction!

Well towards the person who said they might popularize DBZ again...the movie is more than likely gonna bring the anime's downfall.

Though I'll have you note that there is that new remake (along with the Full Metal Alchemist remake to be more faithful to the manga) which of course not only updates animation quality, but fixes up the story more so it'd be less filler and more actually productive arcs if anything.

Oh well, I may have seen the story a thousand times already, a new, HD ver. may be just wat I need.

Also, anyone watch the DBZ OVA that takes place between Z & GT? In case you don't know, it was released online last November to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Shonen Jump (there were also specials for One Piece, Bleach, Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds, Blue Dragon & a few more).

It may be short, but its at least, dare I say it......OVER 9000 times better than this shitty movie (just saw adverts for it & I need to calm down).

If you don't know what I'm talking about, then here:

Reviews are beginning to arrive.

Anime news network hated it, but we all knew that anyways. They're not even film critics anyways, so I'm going to personally disregard this review.

Variety and Screen Daily's reviews have also come in. Variety likes it, Screen Daily doesn't. Neither of them go too over the top though, so it looks like we're heading for middle of the road mundanity.

Which, considering how a lot of people have acted on this very topic, is a good result. (not that you guys'll ever be happy...)

This sounds so much like my little brother:

"It being a Dragon Ball movie isn't equal to it being good."

I'm tired of repeating that.

---

Anyway, since my so-mentioned brother insists on watching it, I'll probably go see it when it opens here, that's around April 9th (I'll probably see it on the 10th or 11th), so I'll tell you how good or bad it is.

Again, we either have to disregard this being related to Dragon Ball at all or take the subtitle EVOLUTION!!!1oneon as an indicator if we want to give this thing any redeeming qualities.

I doubt any of us do though but still.
