I think Ep. 6 is the best in the season so far, but I hope Zan will pick up soon.

Haven't seen the anime, but I have the first three volumes of the manga. I don't see myself getting any more of it, though.

The beginning is great where it introduces all the students and their weird personalities and so on, but after that...

Every chapter is practically the same: someone makes a weird observation or states their own twisted view on something, then the rest of the entire chapter is dedicated entirely to stating examples as to why it's 'true', culminating in a huge list (sometimes two or more) which I'm sure I might find hilarious if everything named weren't some piece of obscure (to me, anyway) Japanese pop culture/history trivia.

tldr; I don't get most of the references so it doesn't amuse me. Sure, the translation notes at the end of the book mention them, but that's like someone telling you a joke, explaining why it's supposed to be funny, and then expecting you to laugh.

By the middle of Volume 3, I found myself just skimming over most of the dialogue, so I gave up.

So yeah, unless the anime is a lot more accessible or you have extensive knowledge of Japan, as much as I wanted to like it, I can't really recommend this series.

That's exactly how the anime is. I stopped watching it near the beginning of the 3rd season, mostly because I didn't understand the majority of the references, and I wanted some more character development. What made the show funny to me was it's utter randomness but at the same time, the dialogue goes so fast sometimes and I have no idea what they're talking about after awhile because I have to keep pausing it just to read what they're saying or what something in the background says. I love the music for the show and I love the openings and endings. I just wish they would make the show have more of a story to it; there are so many unanswered questions.

It's not really about character development at all, and that's not what this is meant for. All girls (and the few boys) have a gimmick which is applicable on a bunch of situations, and every episode has a few methaphorical explanations for something happening in society. That is the fun part of it, and also what they wanted. You aren't going to get any character development here ever except random introductions of some family or something.

Yeah, I'm realizing that now, but it doesn't make the series any more entertaining to me since I still don't get the jokes.

Besides, I haven't really seen where the other students' gimmicks have been 'applicable on a bunch of situations.' 90% of the time it's Itoshiki being emo about something, Kafuka refuting his claims about life being shitty, and Chiri chiming in every so often. The rest of the characters may as well not even exist.

And how far along did you make it into the series? I've never read the manga, but the anime is really only heavy with him seriously trying to kill himself for like, 4 episodes.

Maybe Itoshiki takes up the light a lot because he's the main character.

Third manga volume. I don't know what that translates to in the anime, but it's not a good sign if a series loses my interest that early.

I adored season 1 I loved season 2 and season 3............. was dissapointing.
I really don't understand the series anymore it's like they're doing everything the same but not as well.
Also I've noticed they started to call him Mr Dispair instead of Itoshki Sensei, weird.
Nothing.
