I'm reading the manga via library atm, until they build that Borders near us :>

I've noticed that xD. Maybe he wants to accentuate the OMNOMNOM bit..

You just get so INTO this story, you know? I don't think any sort of sidebar would work, it would just drag you out and disrupt the whole narrative.

Yeah, I think that's pretty much it. I dunno, I like the guy, he's actually a pretty decent voice for L, he just sounds like he's trying too hard, y'know?

Is everything relating to L's eating habits going to be in strikeout?

How far is the dub currently? I haven't kept track since I stopped watching it a while ago. (For I've already seen everything subbed)

All those here who liked DN would probably like Code Geass as well. Lelouch is quite similiar to Light, but less heartless...

Spoiler: Current
The last episode shown was both Light and Misa confined. In the end, it seems Light gave up his Death Note. Preview for next episode shows his father looking like he's going to kill Light.

Before seeing the anime, I was kinda wondering what's the deal with a kid writing names in a book and then those names are killed off. But after seeing it, I enjoyed it a lot. A detective battle between two ideals of Justice.

Death Note used to freak me out, but now I love it. Especially L, and his buggy eyes.
I can't stand Misa. She's just..annoying. Ryuk was generally what turned me off to it, because he was so OMFGEVIL-looking, but I adjusted. Besides, we both have the same favorite fruit :3
I agree, Near sucked big time. And I can't draw his stupid hair.

Well, I liked Near, but L was the one who almost caught Light. And as for Ryuk, I like him, but my friends think he's a total a$$. (BTW: My math teacher has a death note as his late book, needless to say, it's awkward writing your own name in the thing. I was never late though.)

@Skye: Could you imagine if that were real? So ingenious of a teacher.... getting the kids to write their names in a DN because they are late. Kill off the tardy people! He's getting kids to commit their own deaths!!!

Never forget the absolute best part of the dub:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=r9-YncEi4U0

The scene was already pretty silly in the original Japanese version, but going even more over-the-top managed to make it just silly enough to be genuinely funny.

I think the anime/manga should've ended in the same way the live action movies did.

Spoiler:
Basically, the plot goes similar to the anime's, right up to the part where Light gets Rem to kill L. In the anime, he succeeds. In the movie, however, L outwits him by writing his own name into the Death Note prior to Rem doing it (and setting his death to be in in 26, or whatever the maximum was, days in the future). Since it's already written, Rem's attempt to kill L has no effect, so L fakes his death and catches Light when Light slips up due to believing L is dead.

By the way, this guy's drawings on Deviant Art are flat-out hilarious, particularly "Brain Dead" and "The Game Show".

"I take this potato chip...and eat it!"

Death Note really loves to dramatize everything, but it's rather justified with the writing when the notebook kills people.

Are you crazy? The pen was the best part. Oh yes, BTW: The overdramaization was just so epic. Just think:

"I take a potato chip, AND EAT IT!!" *Dramatic music*

Everything about DN is wonderful.

(I took my Math teacher's example and asked people I hated to sign their name for a ridiculous thing like a list. Most of my friends looked at the book in horror. It was priceless.)

The one part in DN that will always be one of my favorites was the epic tennis match between L and Light. I loved how they took it so seriously and how they were thinking along the lines of: "If he does this, he's Kira." "If I do this, he may think I'm Kira, so I better do something else!" Love how way over the top it was!

I love Death Note!

I read English scanlations of the manga, because all has not been released in France. I really liked it. I bought the Death Note in a chinese shop in Paris after that (and some artwork).

I'm a big fan of Light. I had an argument with my sister about it: she prefers L.
L is ok, but Light is much more sexy: he's young, handsome and totally crazy, I like it.

I'm trying to find the anime: is it really good?

Well, it's hard to find Phoenix Wright fans who DON'T like overdramatization. :)

I didn't say that I didn't like the drama, when I do something I consider epic the ominous Kira music always plays in my head, (and I'm sometimes prone to fits of maniacal laughter if warranted). Yeah, too much DN for me... My drawing notebook was styled to look like a Death Note. I got this one Otaku girl to flip out...

Kira is justice!

I <3 my Mamo-chan. My Mamo-chan is love.

I ended up being hooked to it. I was sick from school one day and ended up watching almost the entire series. It's absolutely brilliant. My friends and I often get into arguments over Light and L, though XD.

Spoiler:
I laugh at her because L died sooner than Light. It's cruel, but *shrug* L's death really shocked me. Characters who are plotted to be killed usually don't die. I just didn't see it coming. I expected Light's death, though. His last moments were epic filled with mass epicness. If I ever need swimming lessons, I know whom to ask :)

They're totally pro-Kira, so it was perfect.
The different ending is good too, because I don't hate L

Well, there was a new one-shot that was released last week that is kind of another follow-up for the end of the story. Apparently another death note surfaces... you can find it at onemanga.com. That might be the 'sequel' you're thinking of.

Nope, it was another television series. It's supposed to be a spin-off.

I really like the limited edition figures they have with each DVD volume. The Ryuk figure is awesome.

Anyway, I've been keeping up with this series since it was first released in English and just the other day I was happy to find the live action films in store. They're different, I'll give it that, but still very nicely done.

I would suggest reading the manga first. As with most series, the anime sometimes takes out certain details or change the ending. Since the manga is usually the original story I like to see how the creator intended the story to be like first before watching an adaptation of it.

I'd read it first, just so you can see how epic they make some of the scenes later when you watch it, plus you can see the original ending and more detail into the second arc...

Bleh. Finished the manga last night.

Spoiler: Series
Am I the only one who thought that Light's 'breakdown', as it were, at the end was really out of character for him? The entire series he keeps a cool head even under intense pressure... I don't know, maybe I need to re-read it, but it just didn't seem to me the way that it would end for him. I also hated the second story arc and Near and Mello especially; so maybe that has something to do with it.

I dunno. I'm a Light fangirl anyway; I always wanted him to win :(

I'm pretty sure the point was to show that Light was really done for this time, and that his defeat was so sound that he couldn't handle it. He was so used to being in control all the time that he couldn't swallow that he actually lost. It was supposed to be out of his normal character, to show that he was finally put into a situation he couldn't handle.

Yeah... I know. I think I'm just sad because Light didn't win. :payne: Near's overconfidence really bugged me the whole time; that probably has to do with it as well.

Meh. It was an awesome series; I just think that the ending and the second story arc were kind of annoying.

Well, I do agree that Near was lame and that the second story arc was not as good as the first, but that's probably because there was less chapters/episodes in it...
