Woah! You know millions of people? That's so cool! I wish I knew that many people... :sadshoe:

Other than Advent Children and Super Mario, I haven't seen many movies based on video games. However, I would like to see an anime, or even a movie, based on the MegaMan Zero game storyline. I think it'd be a kick-ass production.

You do? I can't find one.

But anyway, I know it's my personal opinion and not everybody shares it, but really, I wouldn't go so low as to say it's the worst movie ever. Would you, Gears?

The best video game live action/anime/CG movies I have seen are:

Mortal Kombat
Resident Evil
Street Fighter: The Animated Movie (Uncensored version is the best!!)
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Super Mario Bros. (It is okay, despite some weird stuff)

That's all I can list...Im waiting for that Metal Gear Solid movie to be in production.

So my friend is thinking about a Legend of Zelda movie. Do you think it could be pulled off?
I'm skeptical, myself. Even if you had the budget, the right people...would gamers be interested?

If I ever got into the movie business, I would take a Legend of Zelda movie as a good challenge. It can be done, although it might difficult because of Link's non-speaking role. Link expresses himself with facial expressions but they might too bland to give him enough personality for a movie. Adding dialogue is risky too (unless people prefer to see the "EXCUUUUSE ME Princess!" Link). Not to mention, I wouldn't want to sit for hours watching someone go through dungeon after dungeon, but at the same time I don't the story to move as quickly as the LoZ OoT manga did (it was nice, but kind of rushed in a lot of parts). Maybe if the movie focused on Link's psyche as the movie progresses instead of just epic battle scenes. *shrugs*

I would have the movie animated too. I dunno, I think it just fits.

Some games just CAN'T be made into movies, only animes. A legend of zelda movie would feel too diffrent if it was played by real characters. A LoZ anime could easily work (well, not thinking of that excuuuuse of a cartoon), like the couple of Mega Man animes that are really cool.

This goes for Mario as well. For the Super Mario Super Show they had to have the part where they're in the 'fantasy-land' be cartoon-style. Simply because it wouldn't feel right if they wern't because of the enemies, the atmosphere, etc. I think they made it pretty well in regards to how they switched from real-world to cartoon-land. When they made that mario-movie where they had it all-real, it sucked ass. Similar would happen for legend of zelda and mega man and similar games.

Now, as for games that could be made into movies:

- Gex the Gecko
Now, THAT deserves it. Have the main character be Gex and have him wander arround in the media dimention, etc. It could work really well with actors (where Gex obviously isn't, though).

- Half-Life
Really. What part of this WOULDN'T work?

- Portal
A backstory to it would be a possibly excelent action-thriller.

- Phoenix wright
Obviously. There's nothing in the way of it.

etc, etc, etc.

the part where gordon freeman never says a word? the part where to appease the gamers you can't deviate at all from the source, but then it's just watching someone else play the game? there are too many parts that wouldn't work to even think about.

... I bet you liked I, Robot too. Seriously, do you have a folder marked "Stupid Ideas" or do you come up with them on the spot?

Just because it would take place in Black Mesa doesn't mean that it has to follow Gordon Freeman. The universe is big enough for it to be arround other places and people

As for portal, I don't know what you're talking about. A portal backstory with the development and later events at Aprature Science would be an excelent room for creating a movie on. I-robot? Yeah, so besides trying not to spoil anything, I don't see what you mean. Just because there is one little similarity doesn't mean it's the same thing - nor that the idea would be stupid. Your reasoning simply baffles me.

Besides, I was talking about how to make it work in their universes, to avoid having movies like the mario movie and similar ones. Having the universe actually be able to have a movie means that there has to be some parts that make it possible to 1) star real actors, 2) have the story not intervene with issues in the original game. A Portal or half-life movie would fit well in those regards, and I think that a Phoenix Wright movie would even be able to pull it off.

there's - canonically - gordon, barney, and adrian. nobody else got out. every single one of those falls prey to the same pitfalls I just said. what are you going to do, make it follow some government official watching it on the news? follow G-Man and ruin his entire character? The game is already as cinematic as it gets. There is no need or use for a movie.

The backstory of Portal simply doesn't warrant making it an "action thriller", much like I, Robot the short story has nothing in it to warrant I, Robot the movie's abundance of shotguns and breaking things. It has nothing to do with GLaDOS and VIKI. In fact, I wasn't even thinking about that because outside of the fact they're both female AIs that have it out for the protagonist, they have nothing in common. Thanks for pretending to understand, though.

BTW, I'm actually looking forward to Castlevania. Can't be too hard. It's a game where you travel in a castle full of traps and enemies to kill Dracula. It's kinda Basic.

Silent Hill was okay with me, too. I felt they did a pretty good job of capturing the atmosphere, and let's face it:

My only problem is that they felt they had to divulge the town's past with a big block of exposition from Alessa. Ouch.

And they didn't even do that right. >____< Oh, Silent Hill movie.
Actually, I was kind of

annoyed at the barbed wire. It just seemed so...tacky. And it was trying so hard to be symbolic in a "HAY THIS MOVIE HAS THEMES OF MOTHERHOOD SO WE'LL RAPE THE MAIN VILLAIN AND STUFF." It's deep like a river, guys. Creek even.
