I'm so excited!

Here's the IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/
Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_(film)
Official website: http://www.startrekmovie.com/

It's coming out May 8, 2008. It will be about the Original Star Trek crew (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc.) in their younger days. Maybe part of it will take place at Starfleet Academy?

Also, Leonard Nimoy will be making an appearance in the movie and he's very happy about the script. ^_^

Also, a new trailer was recently released.

Why do a prequel? Everyone knows that prequels suck ( The Phantom Menace, anyone?)

I'm personally excited. Though, I admit I was only really a fan of TNG. I like how they're making a 70's(?) show have a modern feel. But I hope there's a plot to compliment the great visuals we were shown.

Count me as one of those nerds that'll try to get in on opening day.

After seeing the trailer, I say meh. Not excited at all. It looks mostly like a generic science fiction action movie, instead of being Star Trek.

Also, what the fuck made them redo the old team with new actors? Just make a bloody new crew, because this just looks weird for the people who've seen the actual Kirk.

Jesus, It's like Smallville knocked up Star Trek. I don't know what to think about this, the trailer looks good, but the dialog is even cheesier than the original series, and I am pretty sure that is not intentional.

Their success with new crews has been failing for a long time. Look at Enterprise.

No wait, don't look at Enterprise! For your own good!! :larry:

I think the idea is to revive the franchise for the younger generation. So they make it flashy and pick a young cast to draw in the young demographic, but make it the original cast to appeal to the older fans. I think they're betting on all those old fans going to see it even if they're skeptical about it.

Calling it Star Trek but using whole new characters wouldn't fly at this point. The name alone just doesn't have the oomph it once did.

Personally I have no stake in the old series, but I grew up watching TNG with my dad, so I'm going to get him to come with me opening night. Why do they have to start advertising it when it's already so far away :lana:

Apparently they were going to release it this year... but they delayed the opening a few months. I don't recall why...

I know that, but then at least make them believable - Spock going totally emotional already in the trailer, is a bad, bad sign. Generally, I felt that most of the people in there were pretty OOC.

It's a trailer, you're *supposed* to put all the exciting scenes in it. :redd:

Why even compare them? Besides the fact that they both have "Star" in their name and they both have to do with outer space and aliens, they're completely different.

FFFFFFF OH MY GOD THIS IS COMING OUT TOMORROW.

I KEEP READING STUFF ABOUT IT AND IT SOUNDS SO AWESOME!!!

I seriously have not heard one bit of bad about it. Some people my friend knows who go to early movie screenings said they hate Star Trek, but they loved this movie! So I'm going tomorrow with a whole bunch of other people my friend knows. I'm so freaking stoked!!

I've got most of my finals done for this semester, but my Brother still has some major ones this coming week, so I'll most likely be seeing it a week later... But my goodness, since Voyager, I've been suffering a major deficiency of good Trek in my system. I could just as easily watch my Season 1-7 DVD collection of TNG, but there's nothing like having some good fresh Star Trek.

I saw the last ten minutes of STAR TREK because I walked into the theater for CRANK 2 and assumed it was just previews.

And uh, then I was like "these sure are some extended previews"

and then the credits started rolling and I was like

"I... don't think I'm supposed to be here"

A person finally noticed me and I got yelled at. They were apparently making sure it worked properly for when it would premier later tonight.

They were a pretty rad last ten minutes though.

You implied that ST: Voyager was good, when for the most part it was awful (and in my opinion even worse than Enterprise was).

Anyway, this might actually make me visit the cinema for the first time since I went to see Star Wars: Episode 2... or I might wait for it to be released on DVD in October/November time.

The comments on the onion video depress me, in a 'Oh dear, are the people on Youtube that disjointed?' way. But the Onion is always good for a satirical laugh. XD

And I don't hate Voyager, I'm just saying it's not really as good as TNG or DS9. And Voyager had a lot more 'Spock's Brain's than Enterprise, how the hell did Janeway turn into a lizard.

There's a reason I said 'good' Star Trek. Voyager was good Star Trek. Deep Space 9 was Fair Star Trek (Nothing 'bad' persay, but nothing making you want to comeback for more). TNG was EXCELLENT Star Trek, TOS was before my time, and Enterprise was depressing Star Trek.

I seriously dislike how Voyager misused the Borg, and a lower emphasis on ethics, but the cast was great and after Deep Space 9, it brought the series back to where Star Trek belonged: exploration.

Enterprise was one big depressing show. I liked Dr. Phlox, T'Pol, Hoshi and to a lesser extent Tucker. But when you have Reed, the depressed isolationist Security officer, and Archer the irrationally arrogant Captain; you've totally negated any promise the rest of the cast had. Particularly due to Archer. Never mind that Vulcans as villains/rivals is a weak concept to begin with.
