I've been rewatching my Simpsons DVDs lately and it's brought back a lot of nostalgia of my days of my boyhood innocence. Having a more mature outlook on life, I'm able to appreciate the satirical elements and spoofs that this sitcom is most well known for.

Discuss the greatest American family on television.

At first, that episode was going in a direction that I liked. Homer and his dad go to Ireland to visit a bar, and suddenly they own the bar. But I didn't like how the episode resolved.

I used to watch the Simpsons like it was some kind of religion. I could quote it like one too. I have the first nine seasons on DVD and I think those seasons are some of the best. I really liked the seaons where Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein ran the show.

I have watched some of the newer episodes and they are pretty much hit or miss with me.

The Simpsons is just un-freaking-touchable. What like, almost 30 years on television? I still enjoy it now than I did back then, that's right, even that movie. Totally agree(-ing) with Mr. Bear, they is the GREATEST American television family. Ever.

Family Guy for me is just. Meh. Isn't all that, the humour is in all those ''Remember that time...'' and ''Like when Peter used to be...'' clips. But that's just my two cents.

Also, God bless Springfield. :godot: (< Even he agrees.)

BTW, have you seen the Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special in 3D ON ICE! (not really)? It was pretty cool. My favorite part was with the "Unauthorized Homer Simpson"! XD

My favourite part was at the very end, when Comic Book Guy said "I liked it." Well played Mr. Groening, well played.

I just picked up the 20th season DVD a few days ago.

Where can I start? The show was good for a while, using proper jokes and good storylines. Now they just have crummy jokes everyone knows, or the kind of *sigh* joke that means, 'I got it, but didn't laugh' or a chuckle. I remember the first episode I watched: where Bart gets that clown bed and that granny flanders says 'HELLO JOEEEEE' :redd: i was in hysterics

That was funny. I like watching it sometimes, but not every night at 7:00PM, 7:30, then Malcom in the middle at 8, like i used to w/ my sisters when I was.. about 7.
Futurama & Family Guy FTW now.
But any other Seth McFarlane show sucks. (And I haven't watched the Cleveland show yet.)

The Simpsons are fucking untouchable. Family Guy is just a bunch of over-eccentric and mostly unfunny parodies and random scenes.

I agree, the latest 5 seasons mostly suck, but there are a lot of very good episodes in them. Like, 20.
I've always thought that the Simpsons' "Golden Age" is Seasons 10-15. 6 years of pure gold and Simpsons history.
Also, the Golden Age contains the best guest star IMO: Stan Lee.

God bless this series. Matt Groening is the best creative mind of the latter quarter of the 20th century. The Simpsons and Futurama are the best animated series ever, without counting anime, of course. Specially Futurama: I can honestly say that I love all episodes.

Same with Lunaria42 in that I followed the show religiously. I can still quote a lot of the earlier seasons and point out random useless facts nobody would even care about(Lisa has blue eyes, and Homer and Bart are multilingual).

It's true though, the series has gone way downhill. It's hard to say the show is irrelevant though, since it's past that point now. It's a staple in American television. There are better shows obviously, but no matter how bad the show's gotten, at this point it'll be a sad day when the Simpsons are taken off the air.

The Simpsons is awesome. The 1st-9th seasons are the best. The new season episodes are hit or miss. Some of them are funny while others are bland. My favorite character is Mr. Burns

I really started departing from this show when I was in my third year of college. I remember the Halloween special that year started with some parody of Perfect Strangers (maybe it wast the end of the episode) and the rest of the episode was just...awful from what I can remember.

My Intro. to Media Studies professor had been a big fan and after that particular episode he stopped watching.

I though this same thing when season 16 finished.
But seasons 20 and, specially, 21, are proving that there's still hope. They're absolutely nothing like the first seasons, but they are most definitely better than seasons 16-19. Don't get me wrong, those had some pretty good episodes, but seasons 20 and 21 had shining moments. "Postcards from the Wedge", "The Color Yellow", "The Bob Next Door", and specially "To Surveil With Love" were as memorable as some episodes from the first 9 seasons.

All in all, the show is far from what it was its first ~9 years (mostly due to the recent lack of emotional impact, which the first seasons had), but if this latest seasons are to be trusted, then, as I said, there's still hope. If not, there's always DVDs of older seasons.

I saw every episodes aired in Québec! It's one of my favorite show. I can tell you that the voice actors here are epic! Almost as good as the english ones and WAY better than the european french ones! My favorites episodes are the Halloween specials and the episodes with Sideshow Bob. My favorite characters are Lisa, Maggie, Sideshow Bob and Snake!

I personally think that it started to go bad at Season 12, and steadily declined. However, ever since they turned HD, they're steadily getting better. Sure, they'll never reach the heights of the classics, but, they'll be cool again. ;)
