Wow...

Words cannot describe how much ass this movie kicks.

Just saw it today and I wasn't very enthusiastic. I read the graphic novels to get me ready for this film and I enjoyed them. A lot. Which is why I wasn't very excited. I thought "Man, this is going to be another Watchmen. They're going to skip over major parts and change something important."

Boy was I wrong. Not only does this movie include many elements that the comic did, it included more. I really felt like this was a real comic book. If life were like this, it would be a comic book come to life. But not only that, it had various game references and sound effects included. This movie was almost word for word the same as the comics, but also included animated scenes from them.

If you have had second thoughts about seeing this movie, throw that doubt away. The acting is incredibly believable, the directing is amazing, the effects stylish and the story is a riot. Also, it made me a Michael Cera fan. Which I thought was impossible.

Seems they got a Red one and a Blue one. The Blue one has basically the entire soundtrack the movie use while the red had fan made songs that were used in the Movie I think...

I bought the red one. It's fantastic. I've been listening to it for 3 days straight. I mean, Sex Bob-Omb apparently sucks in the comic books, but I think they sound great in the movie.

The movie was amazing. I've been hyping about this movie since early June, I've watched every trailer available for the movie, and I've read the last book 6 times in the last week in preparation for the movie. After all of that, I was still not prepared for how much awesomeness this movie contained. Definitely my favourite movie of all time. It was so accurate to the actual comic books! I swear, the first 2 or 3 minutes matched the comic books word-for-word!

I love the comics, but honestly, I think the movie was better. The ending was better in the movie, plus there are just some things that Brian O'Malley couldn't capture in the books, like the legend of zelda movie playing in the background throughout the movie. It was so epic.

My only complaint was that the Katayanagi twins didn't get much screen time (seriously, they didn't even say anything!), but even so, I give this movie a 12/10.

I loved this movie so much. Everything about it was sheer awesomeness. I haven't read the comic yet, but what really made me want to see this besides the funny previews and friend recommendations was the game they put out. I got it on Playstation Network as a demo and it was so hilarious and made me nostalgia hard for my SNES days. The movie did as well once I saw it. I loved all the allusions to other games like Zelda, Double Dragon, and Donkey Kong.

This is the best movie I've seen in a long time.

You should try to some time. It really adds a lot to Ramona and Scott's relationship.
Spoiler: Book 2 - Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (READ IF YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE OR READ THE BOOK)
Plus, there is another Ramona and Knives fight. This time, it's at a mall.

I really like the comics but I do think that the movie pulled it off better. If you want to read them, go ahead. But, it's not a must.

It really was a great movie. My only issue with it is that the pacing wasn't that great - if they had split it into two movies and fleshed out the plot, it probably would've worked better, but it was otherwise fantastic.

It was certainly unique. :P I enjoyed it. My favorite character was Scott's roommate.

My mom had to make me shut up when I was humming along to the Zelda tune at the beginning. XD

There are actually a surprisingly large amount of hidden Zelda references besides the game in the DS that I noticed:
Spoiler:
Ramona's hair goes from pink to blue to green, like the Triforces of Power, Wisdom, and Courage. Then Scott meets his dark half at the end of the movie, which was obviously a reference to Dark Link in the Ocarina of Time, down to the garage door with the inverted Triforce on it that Scott and Dark Scott emerged from.

I saw it earlier today and I must say that the "Seven Ex" battles indisputably stole the show, trouncing even the quirky behaviors and nuances of the characters. I didn't care for the awkward teenage romance plot because that kind of thing was never relevant to my life. It didn't help that damn near everything plot related was overshadowed by the bizarre reality and previously mentioned ex battles.

In summary, I was consistently tickled pink throughout.

No it wasn't. It was a reference to Dark Link in Zelda II, who was the final boss.

Say, that reminds me of a puzzle! Have you ever heard this one, Luke?

It doesn't help that the comic's plot took place over about a year and a half, when the movie condensed it to somewhere between a week and a month.

The UK release was today, and I attended the local premiere.

Godly film. I'm seriously considering going to see it again, and I haven't been to the cinema prior to today in over a year.

Wow, this movie was good.

I luckily managed to see it in a cheap theater, because I wasn't going to pay $20 on another movie/snack party. I really enjoyed the references (got a good laugh from the tiny audience there when the Seinfeld style scene kicked in), and the effects were fun. The Zelda music was nostalgic, and the band's own music was actually decently good.

I was slightly bothered about a few things:

Spoiler: Just to be safe.
- Knives spent the entire movie trying to win Scott back. And in the end, she just tells him to go get Ramona, and the two just leave together. It was supposed to be an act of kindness, but I didn't think she'd give up that easily.

- I guess it's because I read the comics before watching the movie, but when Ramona knew about Envy's weak spot, it bothered me. In the comic, Scott knows where the weak spot was, and Ramona is left clueless as to how Scott knew.

- The gay friend thing was waaaaaaaaay too overplayed. The first times when everyone's looking at each other in suspense and he's hitting on another guy was pretty funny, but when the guys just kept showing up in his bed in almost every new scene, it was getting a little creepy.

- Speaking of overplayed, the caption thing was pretty overplayed as well. I loved them, don't get me wrong. I can't remember the exact moments I felt this, but near the end, I felt I saw too many captions.

- It's probably just me, but I still can't stand Michael Sera's voice. He's a really strong actor, it's just his voice for me.

Spoiler: Most of the references I caught.
- Zelda music at the beginning. Duh.
- The Clash at Demonhead band was named after the Clash at Demonhead game for the NES.
- Sex Bob-omb, the band's name, was named after the Bob-ombs from Super Mario Brothers.
- The fights carried a lot of the captions from the old Capcom fighting games. (Namely, COMBO, REVERSAL, VERSUS, and K.O.)
- "Scott earned the power of love!" Leveling up, enemies dropping currency, and swords of power were something that almost every Square Enix game had.
- Crash n' the Boys is named after the NES game: Crash n' the Boys: Street Challenge.
- Scott wore an X patch on his clothing; referencing the institution where the X-Men resided from.
- I noticed someone already pointed this out, so I'm validating it. Ramona's changing hair colors were probably referring to the Triforces.
- Ramona mentions the convenient Subspace Highway. Subspace is the area from Super Mario Bros. 2 where you could get bonus coins and mushrooms.
- The enemies turning into coins actually fits better into the River City Ransom formula.
- Scott obviously wears a Rock Band shirt during one of the concerts with the bass logo on it.
- T for Teen was an obvious reference to the ESRB ratings system for games.
- Scott learns the bass line from Final Fantasy II.
- The pee bar obviously refers to a health/status bar from most RPG games. The Sims also has a pee bar. XD
- This was mentioned as well, but Nega-Scott was referring to Dark Link from Zelda 2: Link's Adventure.

So yeah, this movie was great. I'm pretty sure that there were tons more references, but it's actually hard to catch the subtle ones when stuff keeps happening :P

Would I see it again? Not until it's out on DVD.

Not a video game reference, but I loved Scott's old-school 'CBC' shirt.

For me, the trailer looked like a typical 'Cool' movie...you know, Chick with odd colour hair, 7 battles, final battle, epic tale, yawn.

Reading the reveiws here, it seems like I have been wrong!! What sort of refrences are there in it? From the trailer, it looked typical, from here, it sounds awesome. Imma go see this when I can.

That movie was AWESOME. I love so much how the style reflected real life - there wasn't any particular part where you suddenly - WHAM! - became immersed in the movie, it just kind of wrapped itself around you (which made the beginning a tad confusing, but was still epic).

Spoiler:
I spent quite a lot of the movie thinking about how unhealthy Scott's relationship with Ramona was, and how wrong the 'Power of Love' upgrade was. Needless to say I was SO FREAKING HAPPY when Scott fought for HIMSELF and finally got some SELF RESPECT - that moment was just so epic, such an amazing subversion of how everything normally is, I cheered. Mentally.

Spoiler:
I don't mind that Knives gave up Scott - showing that she, at least, has learnt the moral of the movie and gained some self-respect and learnt not to spent her whole time chasing after the guy. But I was really hoping that Scott would decide to let Ramona go. I guess he didn't really learn that much from the entire experience after all.

Unrelated, but was I the only one who was expecting Envy to come back at the end? It seemed like the first half of the movie was partially all spent building it up, and then the whole thing ended with the third ex. :yuusaku:

Yeah, my main problem with the movie is that they never got into detail about how much Scott and Ramona are alike, like they do in the comic books. Ramona's much easier to dislike in the movie. Even so, the movie's great, can't wait for it to come out on DVD.
