Of course if you haven't watched all 5 before watching VI you'll be totally in the dark and won't understand any of the very enlightening flashbacks! But you will get to see people slaughtered in increasingly messy and gooey ways! There's even a Gant moment.

I won't get to see this one till it's out on DVD though .__. So I'm going to be spoiling myself to death.

I agree, the 6th installment really fucking delivered in terms of Hoffman's characterisation. Costas Mandylor really pulled out all the stops in his performance this time around. I was also pleased to see a Saw III-style twist of having an assumption through the film that is totally proven wrong by the ending, which had me on the edge of my seat for the entire last ten minutes of the film (according to my friend, I looked as if I'd fallen in love XD). I'm sad to see that Kevin Greutert isn't going to be directing the prospective 7th installment. :(
My three favourite twists were in order:

Oh and PIRAHNA is easily the best Jigsaw line ever.
The only thing I didn't really like in this film was the pit fall trap where William had to choose whether to save his secretary or his file clerk. It just didn't feel very Saw, more like something out of Final Destination. But the rest of the traps, especially the carousel, were very tense and well done. I found myself holding my breath during the oxygen crusher trap, lol.

Me too! I felt pretty silly for it afterwards but I couldn't help it! The traps were much better done than the ones in V, I thought. I've seen a lot of people complain about the opening trap for being a Se7en ripoff, but I thought of it as more of an homage, considering that movie did a lot to inspire Saw in the first place.

Well, Tobin Bell himself isn't fond of the idea, so it goes to show that if the star of the franchise doesn't want the franchise in 3D, it's a fucking bad idea. It's also an extremely unpopular idea within the Saw fandom, but who listens to fans when there's money to be had.

I agree with you in terms of the traps being better than the ones in V. The Bathtub was the most retarded test out of the entire series (although the Saw Box was fucking epic). They were all really tense, especially the Carousel. Steam Room was really well done too, it's probably the most visually impressive of all the traps in the series so far.

Most people blame in on Hackl for his work on Saw V but I think the direction in Saw V was actually pretty sweet. It was just the 5 Become 1 traps left something to be desired. >_> The Strahm/Hoffman storyline was the highlight of the movie. And even some of the hardcore fans were turned off the series by Saw V.
I think it's silly to just stop bothering watching a series when you're so far in, personally. I won't stop watching Saw films until the conclusion. The only problem is when that end is. XD But I care not, it's more Saw. If Saw VI is any indication, the series can only get better. Saw's a series that's so far in that's it's discouraging for a casual moviegoer. I mean, imagine being a newbie going to the cinema. You're hardly going to pick Saw VI over everything else.

It's been written to go at least to VIII. And if they're still able to draw me in, film after film, after so many years, I believe they deserve kudos instead of chagrin. Least on my part.

If you're referring to me talking about films where people die, I'm just saying that films shouldn't be generalised for body count.

I meant horror movies, actually. "Essentially a lot of people dying" is NOT a staple of the horror genre.

It is a lot more than just "a lot of people dying." Plenty of movies can give you that. Saw gives you death AND narrative, and that's why it has such a following.
Until Twisted Pictures starts losing money on them they'll keep going, and since the writers of VI are already on board for VII, I'll be at the theatre opening weekend again.

I liked the first three Saw movies, but I felt maybe the quality went down just a notch after the fourth movie, so I'm not really sure about the movie itself. I've been hearing both positive and negative reviews about it, but I'll go see it anyway. Who knows? It might be a lot more awesome. Anyways, thanks for answering!

I suppose that's true. Because I was really turned off by the franchise, due to what seemed to be a lot of gore and very little substance. You could be right, I hadn't seen previous movies, and I didn't feel attachment or emotion. I thought it was just dumb.

Major spoilers abound so if you don't want to spoil your experience of Saw VI by picking at it in little pieces or just spoiling the major twists, I'd advise you stay well clear of these. Personally, I'd advise go see it in all its glory in the cinema, but it's on you. 8U

Indeed. But, its sucess has led to other "horror" movie makers have jumped on the "Horror means everyone dies" bandwagon it's anoyying(sp)...
The opening to Saw II still scares the living crap outta me.
