Fantastic. Still as excellent as ever. Although, there was a serious lack of annyong. Thoughts, people?
I have to admit, I'm having a hard time with it. I'm 5 episodes in. I thought the first one was pretty good, but I was very unimpressed with the George Senior and Lindsay episodes. The second Michael one was alright but i thought it had a few too many couple "in-hollywood" jokes which I got but my family didn't understand at all. I wasn't crazy about the Tobias one either but I wasn't really in the mood for AD at the time so that could have been the reason.
I think the two main problems I'm having with this season is:
1) The episodes are too long. The other three seasons had a really fast pace because of the runtime, where one joke would come right after the other. There have been many times in the S4 Episodes I've watched where there was a funny joke or scene that simply went on too long.
2) The lack of Michael as a center. I feel like the brilliance of the family shone whenever they'd be responding to fairly straight-faced Michael. Now that the cast is split up most of the time, Michael can't play the straight man and because of this the side characters are interacting with characters weirder than themselves.
It's still really fun to go back and see these characters, and I'm sure the reasons why the two issues above were issues were because of scheduling conflicts and the fact that Mitchell Hurwitz hadn't written for them in a couple years. I bet Season 5/the movie will likely have more interaction and will maybe be a little shorter so the show can have the pace it once did. if I was to rate Season 4 right now, I'd give it 6/10, but I still have like 10 episodes to watch.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.
