Ah, you mean that book with someone who looks like Bruce Lee? It's titled "The Way of Man", or basically "How to Be A Good Person". I'm curious if the author will ever be brought up later. It seems like a possibility, since Season 4 is titled "Balance".

And on that thought, I'd like to see if any of Bruce Lee's famous quotes of philosophy make it into the show. It's almost a given, right?

Book 4 is set to begin on Friday. There's been a few details revealed (and a trailer), though to me the most interesting development is that there will be a three year timeskip between the end of the last season and what picks up here. The Avatar world tends to change quite a bit in just a short period of time, so seeing what effects three years of spirits and the fallout of what happened to Korra is what I'm looking forward to.

I friggin' loved episode one, which came as a surprise to me since the trailer put me off. Once again, it seemed like they were trying to bite off far more than they can chew, I thought. If we only focus on what Korra's doing in the trailer, she's: fighting in an arena, going on an expedition in the swamp, going to Republic City, goes to the Spirit Portals and going to an underground cavern. Sure, some of these may be connected, but I feel like it's going to be spread too thin once more. Don't forget that she also has to deal with Kuvira and her army somehow, and she's not even an outright villain yet.

Episode one was great though, it showed some depth and complexity, not to mention a great villain, that have not been seen since Book 1. Too bad I'm not looking forward to Korra's personal story at all.

I tend to hold back on any opinion of a season based on the first episode, but so far so good. I have my suspicions about Kuvira not being the only villain of this season, though. She stands out as the most obvious choice for a major villain, but her ideals are justifiable to a certain point. I don't mean that we need another villain who has a more evil stance than she does or anything, but I'd rather not see this season end with Korra and Kuvira battling it out in a one-on-one battle. Since this season is titled "Balance", I want to see some balance of character roles too. Not to mention, we've had enough of those already.

For now, the chaos is local only to the Earth Kingdom. I await to see what happens when it spreads, especially if it means putting the scarcely populated Air Nation in jeopardy once more. It's just one of those things that are bound to keep happening, whether or not it's actually necessary to happen.

Besides, I want to see Milo kick butt. It's been three years since he's began his disciplinary teaching methods.

The problem with balancing character roles is that the cast is ridiculously bloated. Aside from Team Avatar and the villains, we've got Zuko's daughter confirmed to make an appearance (because Zuko was so important last season?), Toph, the Airbenders and so on. Really, that's The Legend of Korra's main flaw - the characters, and how many they are. Hell, it's even been confirmed that we'll find out about Varrick's childhood.

I'm honestly hoping Bolin will be on the "evil" side for a while longer - if not for the entire book - simply because this is the first time he's doing something other than being a non-funny comic relief character. If they could add some drama between him and Team Avatar, the show would benefit greatly. Of course, I've got no doubt he'll save the day/defect when we find out about Kuvira's ulterior motives/darker side.

Korra will most likely duel Kuvira. People have noted many similarities between the two, and that they mirror each other in some ways. Hell, maybe Korra's first fight of the season serves as foreshadowing, who knows?

I also strongly suspect that Toph has something to do with Kuvira - maybe she was her teacher for a while. Korra will most likely learn from her as well.

Episode 2 was alright, but it was painfully predictable. Such a shame to not focus on the interesting conflict they really managed to set up last week, but I guess it'll still be there in episode 3.

On a more positive note, it's going to be nice to see what Toph has to say to Korra.

They went through the last 6 months in about 15 minutes and had to hit all the important points. I felt it came off as a little rushed, but I could see that the team was pushing to get through to the action. Well, the exchange of letters was done well enough.

But more importantly, that picture of Aang. And Toph as a swamp witch. Happy days are back again.

That picture of Aang was priceless. It's obvious the creators are well aware of what moments of The Last Airbenders the fandom loved and has joked about for years.

Yeah, it was a bit rushed, but I'm glad it only took them one episode; the main story arc has so much potential and I really want them to get back to it. Kuvira is such a badass in episode one, and I hope we'll get into some more political juiciness; it seems like Raiko is backing Prince Wu and expecting something in return - maybe Wu is just a puppet? God I hope so.

This episode also alleviated some of my worries about Korra travelling to so many different places; I thought she'd might have to go to the desert for plot reasons, but it was all during a montage, thankfully. The cast is still bloated, however, and they've still got to travel around all of the Earth Kingdom, go back to Republic City for whatever reason, and Korra and Kuvira have to face each other soon, too.

Speaking of which, I rewatched the trailer to see just what parts of it we've already seen, and I noticed an interesting scene; it looked like Korra, Asami and Mako were on a train with Prince Wu, and Korra was deflecting Kuvira's metal plates. My guess is that Prince Wu had been kidnapped, but I suppose it might just have been Kuvira attacking his train. Anyway, looking forward to that.

Also, when do you believe Bolin will desert? I would prefer it if he believed in Kuvira so much that he'd side with her instead of the Avatar, but we all know that isn't happening, especially since he's fighting Mecha Tanks in the trailer. I just hope he stays with her for several episodes more.

And lastly, Toph calling Korra Twinkle Toes gave me feels.

Gm... That spirit vine... I'm guessing it's going to play a role in pushing Kuvira off the slippery slope. I really hope the series will make her a legitimately interesting villain instead of someone who's unambiguously evil.

Finally got a chance to watch the episode, and eh... it was okay. I know the season is still in its beginning stages, but there's a lot more "tell-not-show" rather than "show-not-tell" to this exposition that I'm not feeling.

Not to say it was a bad episode; the main conflict is moving right along on schedule, and Kuvira declaring herself the new leader and kicking out incompetent royalty was done as it should be. Bolin and Mako being at odds again at the start seems to be becoming a recurring trend these past two seasons, but I'd like to see how long they can hold that conflict without it turning stale... and it's pretty easy to let it turn stale.

As for Korra's episode... Toph said it best. "I don't have time to fix all your problems." And sending those three li'l monks on a quest is what I've been waiting to see. They're the ones I have my eyes on this season.

And I'm with GL's post above. The spirit vine looks like it will make a good source for some very interesting tech.

Of course it's going to be a superweapon. The superweapon doesn't bug me so much as how it was handled, though. The rear of her train was badly damaged as a result of this project, and Kuvira's decision is to coerce the guy in charge of the project into continuing it? Kuvira, please drop the Villain Ball. Abandoning the project and putting Varrick to work on something less dangerous would allow you to retain his loyalty and his skills. Besides, now that you're forcing him to work on it, he's probably going to sabotage it. He already knows how to make it blow up part of your train, after all. For that matter, you already have a huge, well-equipped, and well-trained army. You don't need the superweapon.

[sigh] I really liked Kuvira. I get the feeling she's going to disappoint me as a villain from here on out.
