It is in the 58th year of Showa. The summer starts earlier than usual. In Jun, they’re enjoying the sound of cicada at noon and buzz of higurashi(*) in the evening.

Here, Hanamizawa Village, which locates on the rim of XX prefecture, is a small village whose popularion is less than 2,000. However, "it" repeats every year.

Every year, on the fixed day of Jun, one person dies and one person disappears. It is a death chain from the fight related to a big dam construction plan. The incident that was hidden in the middle of Showa revives.

Hinamizawa Village Consecutive Unnatural Murders (1979 ~ 1983).

It is whether a plot or an accident...or a curse?

The person who’s supposed to be there doesn’t exist.
The person who must not be there does exit.
The person whom you met last night doesn’t exit.
The person who is there doesn’t live.

The tragedy is inevitable? You can do nothing but succumb to it?

However, do not submit yourself to the tragedy.
It is only you that can face it.

I suggest you watch this Anime...if you are not easily scared or paranoid about a lot of things.

This anime is scary if you think about it...try to find it, it has a lot of blood and gore and the anime looks so innocent, but I promise you it's not. Watch It and post your thoughts! :kyouya:

I personally love the character albums.

Especially that frightening rap made by Oishi and Keiichi.

My latest tribute to Higurashi. "Rika's Last World"
SPOILERS ALERT FOR KAI

I've just finished watching Kai, and I've gotta say, it's the best anime I've ever seen. :phoenix:

I especially love how confusing it all is in the first season, and how they left behind clues in each separate arc, which all weaved into one, conclusive and satisfying ending by the end of Kai.

The development in EVERY character is extremely significant, as they all have their own story to contribute.

The detailing in art style improved greatly in Kai, which is partly what caused the emotional scenes...

Spoiler:
Rika: Don't worry everyone. I trust in fate, I trust that at the crucial moment, I will be saved. *extremely high quality shake of the head to mask her pain* Nippah!"

Keiichi: Keep on living, my friends. *light fades from pupils*

Takano: All I wanted...was to be recognised...to be told that I was allowed to live...why...has my life been shattered so many times?

to made me weep. :uramidn: :larry:

Higurashi no naku koro ni is a very well done storyline, no matter what the medium and I love it to bits.

Anyone know which of the games I should play? Are the games any good?

I can't decide on a favourite character. But if I had to make a list...

1) Rika, Hanyuu, Mamouru and Miyo
2) Keiichi, Mion, Ooishi
3) Satoshi, Rena

:jake: I hope people continue contributing to this forum!

I LOVE Higurashi! I've watched all three seasons twice. (I'm kinda embarrased saying that. :bellboy: ) My favourites are Shion and Rika. And if you haven't already, watch Umineko no Naku Koro ni! It's great. I watched it after finishing Higurashi, and that is better because you understand the 'format' better.

The last episode of Higurashi Rei recommended me to watch Umineko no naku koro ni (When the seagulls cry)

I've watched the opening, and it seems like a much more civilized anime compared to Higurashi. (Comparing a village to a British mansion = doesn't work)

Just wondering, are the question arcs as bloody as Higurashi? I heard there are still murders involved.

Because that's what makes it all so thrilling. :redd:

Yup, it is bloody, maybe not as much, but it gets bloody a lot. And when it's not bloody, there is quite a good storyline. I was addicted to Higurashi because of it's storyline, but I was even more addicted to Umineko!

I finished Kai a few days ago. Guess I'll comment now that I've had time to let it sink in.

The ending is pretty good. Not great, but good (of course, this means it's outstanding in anime terms since the endings to most series/movies are garbage.) I do wish more of the questions were answered, though.

Spoiler: Whole series
One important thing that came to mind was, what was the deal with the 'dopplegangers' of Keiichi and Rena in the Curse-killing and Atonement arcs? Did I miss the explanation for this somewhere?

Also, I didn't really get Takano's motive. She wanted to prove what Hinamizawa Syndrome did to people by killing Rika off, yeah, but, uh, then she wanted to wipe out the entire town before they went crazy and started killing people...? How...would that prove anything?

And what did Shion whisper to Keiichi in the well during the final arc?

Spoiler: More thoughts on the series
Overall, I thought the last arc was a little anticlimatic: Massacre was probably my favorite. I loved how Keiichi more or less made up for royally screwing up during all the Question arcs by being as awesome as possible during the Solution arcs. Taking Shion's chair to the head was just badass, I think I actually cheered when he gave the doll to Mion, and watching him bust his ass uniting the entire village for Satoko built up to Teppei's amazingly satisfying takedown. Mion may call herself the leader of the group, but Keiichi was definately large and in charge.

Then Takano showed up, said 'no happy ending 4 u', and murdered everyone. Meh.

I think if the Massacre arc hadn't been so epic, I would have been happier with the finale. In comparison to how much the gang had to struggle for their (momentary) victory in Massacre, it felt like everything in the last arc was somehow too easy. I think Oryo going to the shrine where everyone was setting up for Watanagashi and going 'Hey, let's just forgive the Hojos already' sums up my point pretty well.

On the plus side, the end did make me feel bad for Takano, but she's still a horrible bitch who got off way too easy for everything she'd done.

I'm not sure if I can say Higurashi is my favorite series ever, but it's definately in the top five.

I can't say I've watched the series, but I've seen bits and pieces here and there. I'm a wuss when it comes to blood and gore, so I don't think I'll be watching the entire show anytime soon unless it's in the daytime and I have others watching it with me XD. I did, however, watch "Casey and Friends" if that counts as a contribution to this thread XD

So far I've seen only the first season.
Did I like it?

Sometimes, after a hard day, you just sit on computer wanting to see something ranom.
So why not to watch cute girls kill eachothers? Works.

The first season wasn't bad, but sometimes the plot just seemed to focus more on carnage than the actual plot.
Those moments were the only minus ones on the serie,
but in the end it all fit'd pretty well.

I must confess that I was kinda out for a moment after the episode where Keichi dies for first time and then everything is OK in the next episode.
After you see the cycle, you won't mind of this at all,
but the first time is the most confusing.

Eh...I don't really have talent to put my feelings into words, so: yeah, I like'd it.

Too much? Heck, it's like watching how Kenny dies over and over again :D
Thank god there's respawn, eh?

Hmm...Sounds like I need to check S2 soon, I guess.

EDIT: Okay, the S2E6 cleared SOOOOOOOOO many things, that it seems like it's finally having a plot :D

I ended up being very disappointed in Umineko. :sadshoe:

Didn't enjoy it very much at all.

It was basically copied off Higurashi, except with a different setting and different characters.

The message in the bottle thing with Maria plaguerising off Keiichi was too much for me.

And the ending.

Seriously.

WTF.

*VERY dissatisfied*

I've heard that the visual novel is WAY better.

Though I'm very reluctant to try it out now that the anime's left such a bad impression on me. :payne:

I personally think that S2 is the best season of Higurashi.

Everything started going down hill from there.

Seriously, first ep of Rei and practically the WHOLE of Kira.

What.

The.

Hell.

You probably already know this from watching S2, but here's a brief explanation.

Keiichi's doppleganger? Here's a toughie.
And I'm not even sure if the explanation my friends and I came up with is valid.

Basically, Keiichi's friends KNEW that he had committed murder (killing Teppei)
and they wanted to pretend it NEVER HAPPENED.

So they ACTED as if Keiichi was at the festival the whole time.

Hence, all the contradictions and Keiichi's paranoia.

As for RENA.

The manga explains all, go read it. (IT'S SOOOO GOOD)

Mion, being the next head of the Sonozakis, had the power to tell lies and get away with them. (HELL YEAH)
She made up the fact that Rena Ryugu was in Gogura.

So that the police woudn't find her.

Rena, being extremely ill and paranoid at that point in time, assumed that there was another one of her.

...

There, that clear things up for ya? :pearl:
