"Wow. That armor is stronger than I had originally thought," Walt said, noting the remarkably fast recovery. The knight was charging straight at Salie to collide with him, and Walt knew he had to help somehow. As it stood, Salie couldn't do any damage to the knight. Not with that armor encasing them. Walt then knew what he had to do. As the knight charged past him, Walt cast an armor break spell and touched the crystal armor with it, making the spell adapt on the spot. If the armor didn't break completely, it would at least have cracks in it, but this spell took a heavy toll on Walt's energy. He collapsed after casting it, hoping it at least worked.

The spell took effect, in a most unusual way.
Riding from the pupil, three cracks ran out from the eye and down the helmet. The eye didn't even blink, but now looked like something one would see reflected in a broken fun-house mirror, split and slightly distorted.

They quickly traced around the chest plate and around the back, before suddenly trailing from the back into the middle of the air. The phenomenon stopped short a half-foot out, but three distinct shapes had suddenly become visible coming sticking off the back of the armor. They almost looked like strings...

But the knight didn't stop, it's charge unfaltering as it rushed Saile, Lance aglow and held at the ready.

Saile's wings were already tucked back and he didn't have the time to dodge.
The only thing he could do was change the part of his body he expected it to hit to shadow,

Chest! he screamed in his mind as his chest blurred into it's familiar shadow.

First a short hop, then a short step while pulling the weapon back-- and the knight heaved the lance forward. The motion alone was strong, but something about the lance itself furthered the motion, as the knight continued zooming forward, propelled only by the inertia created from the lance thrust.

His feet were firmly planted, but he plowed forward leaving a trail of dust, onward right through Saile; or rather, the knight's lance passed right through Saile's immaterial chest.

Yet, the knight didn't seem to notice the lack of solid hit, as it finally slowed down several feet past Saile. Instead, it resumed it's run and tore straight at Nadine, blindly ignoring the others.

As the knight suddenly turned all of its attention to her, Nadine barely had time to jump to the side before deciding that it was time to test her new theory. Not that she had many other options, with her hands all scraped up. She focused on the knight for the split second she had before impact.

She drew some energy only ever so slightly from her teleporting ability for fear that she would face the consequences of the last crystal. Nadine also drew power from her fire source simultaneously, using that small bit of teleporting ability to move the fire outside her skin before it had fully formed. This resulted in a fireball forming just in front of her instead of from her hands.

Nadine grinned slightly at the success of her technique before forcing the fireball to shoot forward, curving before zooming straight towards the giant red eye in the centre of the knight's head.

((Ooh! Ooh! The knight is BLIND! Did I get it?))
Flux quickly picked himself up and ran over to Walt, dragging him out of the line of fire. While Walt was defenceless, it would be a bad idea to just leave him there. Flux left him by a big lump of rubble, hiding him behind it. He proceeded to strike the knight from behind and curving his blade round into the knight's eye, hoping that he would have trouble dealing with both his attack and Nadine's.

The fireball struck and the knight stumbled, the helm material splintering along the crack-lines.
When Flux struck, a loud snap echoed out, and the cracks ran further out along the helmet.

The knight swept around, and tossed off Flux. It stumbled back a few more steps, and then relaxed. The red eye was gone, only the splintering cracks remaining. Part of the helmet-- the upper-right half --fell off, broken away.

Revealed beneath was the upper half of a man's face. His eyes were closed, and they had dark circles underneath them. His skin was rather pale, and breathing was markedly shallow.

Rather suddenly, activity occurred under the surface of his shield. The color changed at the center, and very quickly, a new eye was staring at the group. Without hesitation, the knight charged again, at Flux this time.

Flux blocked the attack with his sword, then countered it with several slashes to the cracked armor.
"Who are you!?" Flux shouted at the knight. "What do you want with us?"

The eyes of the man inside the armor were still closed tightly. His brown hair was matted with sweat, and it was very apparent by his pallor that he must have been clammy, perhaps even running a fever. Yet, despite Flux's outcries and demands, no response was given. Only action.

The swipes did little more than to scratch the chest plate, and small bits of the crystal material stuck to the sword blade from each strike. Rather hurriedly, the knight swept the massive lance, to try and knock Flux down.

At the same time, the crystal chips that stuck to Flux's sword started to spread outward, very slowly and very subtly, growing from an almost powder-like residue to shards.

As the lance passes through Saile's chest it occured to him,
"Why is it that he didn't follow up? I know he didn't feel much reverb from that"

Saile then went into a shapeless from and reformed again to be whole, Minus his left arm.

He has an entire suit of armor made of crystal.... Saile said to himself.

But all armors have a weakness, they need to have some way for air to get in.

Saile looked at the knight as it attacked Flux.

HIS CROTCH! Saile yelled at no one in particular.

Nadine rolled her eyes at Saile's childish outcry. His crotch is armoured, idiot! Haven't you noticed the FACE? Her patience was wearing thin with the difficulty of the creature to kill, and she sent another frustrated fireball in the direction of its face.

Flux reeled back, looking at the crystal shards forming on his blade. He decided to ignore this and, hearing Nadine's reply to Saile's rather odd solution, proceeded to strike the knight with a heavy blow to the face. "I hope this hurts!" he yelled.

Hearing the echo of Saile's sarcastic thoughts, Nadine gritted her teeth in an attempt to stop herself screaming. You do it then, genius! Decisively running towards Walt, she inwardly seethed, keeping the knight in the corner of her eye.

Walt stared intently at the strings that formed on the knight's back. So the knight was being controlled. Maybe if they could break the strings...But would it help them for him to be in his right mind, or would it hurt them? And then the knight charged at Nadine, and Walt wanted to cast a spell right then and there to stop him for good. But before he could think of something that wasn't an instant death charm, Flux grabbed him and dragged him behind a large pile of rubble. Walt sighed. He couldn't sit this fight out, but he had to recover at least a little before fighting. He poked his head out from behind the rubble to see what was going on...
The knight's eyes were closed tightly, were they? So Walt was right. This guy was being controlled. What was all the hoopla about hitting the crotch when it seemed so obvious to Walt that the first thing to do would be to sever the control of...whoever was controlling the knight?
Walt got back up shakily and leaned on the rubble for support as he made the air around the three figures sticking out the knight's back into swords and attempt to cut through them. He felt his legs buckle underneath him. Good thing it didn't take much energy to do that...He saw Nadine running towards him, seemingly seething, and didn't know how to feel about it. He was ecstatic, of course, but...they needed her help more than he did...

((Saile is unaware that the knight is being controlled, with his experience he has found that the areas where the armor needs to move are the weakest, so in effect the weak points are the underarms, area behind the knees, and the crotch.))

The knight blocked both the fireball and Flux with the shield. The red eye in it's center gazed intently at Flux, before twisting to the sword in his hand. In an instant, the small crystal shards spanned outward, each fragment reaching for it's brethren and growing down the blade toward the handle (and the hands holding it), at a voracious pace.

The knight wasted no time in repelling Flux back from a heavy blow with the shield, and readied it's lance to pierce him before he could recover. It was unaware of Saile's approach.

The shield's eye swiveled back in it's socket (figuratively speaking) when Walt's swords sliced through the air behind it. The result was instant, but subtle-- the strings did not sever, but their visibility increased, as if a cool liquid were flowing down the line, revealing the strings to span a few meters back, but fading into invisibility before they could reveal themselves any further.
Even still, the direction was consistent; they pointed to the schoolhouse ruins.

Saile was just behind the knight when he got a better idea.

He stabbed his sword into the ground and morphed his right hand into a rope, He kept his right arm this shape as the rest of his body turned to shadow and spun around the feet of the night, attempting to entalngle his legs.

Flux was knocked back more than a few metres by the shield's blow. It was possible that the knight had just slightly miscalculated his weight. As a result, Flux was knocked out of the lance's reach for now. He was also...knocked out. Cold. As his vision faded, he had just enough strength to throw the blade away from the group. "Argh...!"

So, whoever is controlling him is around those ruins. But who or what will I find when I go there? Maybe I'll find nothing. That place was destroyed just earlier, after all. Should I even try? Whoever is controlling this knight is making rather obvious errors, like only focusing on one person at a time. Maybe it's more beneficial that I don't... He then saw Flux get knocked away...and out, throwing his sword just before lying lifelessly. Walt cast a barrier around Flux, then summoned the body over. The shield was just in case the knight attacked while Flux's body went flying towards Walt. The spells did cost some energy and Walt was now even more obvious about using the rubble for support, leaning on it heavily. His eyes closed, then opened. What was he thinking with the armor break, anyway? Fat load of good that spell did. He needed to focus and stop the spell before Flux crashed into him.

Nadine reached Walt just as he began to lean more heavily on the rubble. Putting a hand out to support him slightly, she looked back over her shoulder warily before turning back. Get somewhere safe to recover, she said hesitantly, already sensing the irritation that would undoubtedly stem from the 'protectiveness'.

Walt smiled tiredly.
"I can't make you guys fight without me," he said. "It may sound foolish, but I can't sit idle as everyone else risks their lives." He looked around. "Which reminds me, do you think Hubris is alright? Last I saw of him, he was in one of those barriers Flux made, and with all the sonic waves going around, I'm not entirely sure if the barrier held out...And maybe it would be better if he wasn't behind it, anyway..." But Walt didn't remember where they were trapped in the first place. Wait, why couldn't he recall that?! He had been fighting the knight so hard, he wasn't sure which direction he came from...He turned to the ruins of the schoolhouse. "Whoever is controlling this 'knight' is somewhere around there..."

((A quick FYI to Apollo, it isn't blind, as that eye once in the helm and now in the shield aren't just for decoration. Not to mention that would mean it would not have been able to see-and-stop Flux and Nadine's attacks.
Just as well, as my current dilemma of having to deal with Flux AND Saile has resolved itself. Plus, I got a nice reminder that I have another character who needs coverage! ^^;))

He was enshrouded by the dark. He couldn't see, hear, or feel the wind. If it weren't for the ground beneath him, he wouldn't know if he were still sitting on the ground or perhaps drifting through some remote void of outer space.

It was penultimate sensory deprivation. Certainly, he thought, the others must be out there and suffering the same murk. He prayed to God that they were alright, and nearby, and still alive. He told himself that they were still by his side, and that he wasn't trapped by the dark.

Hubris was doing everything he could to keep himself calm, but felt it already coming on; the nervous shaking, the uncontrollable tightness in his chest that forced him to breath faster, the sweating on his palms and face. Time seemed to drag out for an infinitely long time, and as if in his own personal world, trapped from his comrades, smothered by the dark, he could feel the creeping onset of another attack.

The whole time, from when the barrier shattered, and the sonic attacks stopped hounding him long enough to regain consciousness, up to the present, Hubris had remained on the ground, sprawled out on his back and hands, in that same street corridor that he had been left on.

As Saile entrapped the knight's legs in rope, it immediately turned it's attentions below. It shifted slightly, but gave an almost steadfast resistance to the tightening pull of the rope.

It's feet remained spread where they were, and the entire knight would have been statuesque if it weren't for the section of revealed face that stirred briefly now and again. Its focus was completely on its would-be captor. The eye within the shield followed the angel's shadow-borne movements, occasionally flitting upward to look at the movements of the others before returning to watch below.

((High endurance, great strength, superhuman abilities, and equipment with arcane powers. I'd dare say this is supernatural! Heck, if I weren't writing it, I'd think this was too bizarre to be really happening... Then again, we have seen weirder in this RP, haven't we?))

Why is this guy not attacking me?
Saile thought as he was froced to stop due to the change in the knight's stance.

Maybe he's just like me. He thought to himself.

Saile started to slowly creep up the knight's legs.
Changing the shadows that were once ropes to thick shadows.

Maybe he's afraid of the dark. He said out loud.

Well...then just stay here, okay? Nadine hesitated for a brief moment before taking off, flying straight towards the schoolhouse and curving around the back of the knight in the hope that it wouldn't see her. If whatever was controlling it was inside the schoolhouse, it was almost pointless to fight the puppet for any other reason than to defend themselves. Taking down whomever controlled it would stop both.

Walt sighed, stopping his summoning charm just before Flux would have crashed into the pile of rubble. He wanted to tell her all about how he was a grown man and how he didn't need to be told what to do, but when he looked into her eyes, Walt couldn't bring himself to say it.
"Okay," he finally said, turning back to the fight as Nadine flew off. Maybe the knight was scared of the dark, maybe not...either way, it didn't seem he could be much help. Not from where he was standing, anyway. He quickly grabbed Flux's body and pulled it behind the rubble. It didn't seem he needed much healing...But Walt did it anyway. It made him antsy to just stand there while everyone else was fighting.

The knight remained stationary, allowing Saile to continue ascending. But only briefly.

The eye on the shield was watching Nadine for the short time she was in it's view. Finally, the knight stirred, a quick movement into powerful stance, legs spread apart to balance. Just as fast, the knight lifted the lance above it's head and spun it 'round and 'round.

A definite whistling came from the tip of the blade as it cut through the air, spinning faster and faster. The weapon brightened once again into that forewarning glow, and the knight caught it still. Facing downward, the knight held it above it's head, pulling back slightly before sending the point swinging downward, earthbound.

((I need not remind ya'll what this particular weapon does.))

Saile instantly knew the attack was coming, he had seen what it did to the building.

He changed his hand from a rope to a shadow (freeing the knight) and then back to his right arm, he didn't have enough time to turn to an angel and escape but he knew he had an ace up his sleeve. Or a spear in the ground.

The spear bursts from the ground, and the now half torso-half shadow Saile catch it and fly along with the spear, landing only five feet away from the knight. ((there goes my whole plan of stabbing him at an upward angle through his crotch))

H- Help! Saile cried as he clawed at the earth trying to get away.
His legs weren't changing back fast enough and Saile knew he was going to get hit.

Being only a short distance from the schoolhouse, Nadine hesitated upon hearing Saile's cry for help. Looking back, she thought about it realistically. The time it would take her to run or fly to him in the first place would most likely be too long. So, much as it pained her...she turned back to the schoolhouse. The knight's strike to the ground had caused a rumble in her feet that almost unbalanced her, but surprisingly the knight hadn't made further effort to stop her. As she reached the door to the schoolhouse, Nadine lit a small fire in the palm of her hand, hesitating only briefly before stepping inside.

Walt had to think fast. How could he save the angel? He could summon Salie to him, which might not be fast enough. He could cast a shield around him, which would probably not be strong enough. He could try to disarm the knight, but he had a very strong grip on that sword...Wait, that's it! He didn't need to cast a shield around Salie. Walt quickly cast a shield around the sword.

((Ho-ho-ho! There's some of the quick thinking that I like!
As far as chronology goes, it's probably been several minutes (at the very least) in-story since I had last announced the time left at about 33 seconds, and since the drop velocity wouldn't magically slow down, I'd think we have...))

The lance pierced the ground, and the knight was engulfed in a bright flash. The entirety of the previous light column was trapped within the small barrier covering the lance, and the energy was released at once within the restricted space.

A earthshaking blast, and dust was sent flying into the air as all went dark again. The barrier had been destroyed, and large chunks of cool crystal came tumbling from above. From within the cloud of dust a silhouette came walking forward, toward where Walt was stationed. As the it cleared, the figure of the knight was revealed, still standing. However, a toll had been paid.

The entirety of the left side of the armor was destroyed, everything from the shoulder and arm down to the plating on the hips. The lance was nowhere to be found, but the shield was still in his right hand, that angry red eye glaring with spite.

The face was now fully revealed. It was Adam, pallid and unconscious, his head held upright by what remained of the ruined helm-piece. His left arm hung limply, free of armor and unresponsive, but the rest of him, still clad in the protective wear, forced him onward in a steady gait.

Walt collapsed as his barrier broke, but managed to position himself on the ground so he could still take a look. There was a huge cloud of dust where the knight was. Had he...beaten him? There was a figure walking toward him, and as the dust cleared, he saw it was Adam. He knew it! But he looked awful. And it seemed the parts without armor weren't moving. This strengthened Walt's resolve to destroy it. And now that the armor was focused on him, Walt could be sure that everyone else would be safe as long as they didn't try to get in the way. He shakily stood back up and pointed his arm at Adam, trying to suck some energy that he could use to keep himself going.

What? Saile looked around, his head was spinning.
He un-gripped the clumps of dirt and pushed himself up, finding his legs newly restored.
Walt had guarded him.

not five minutes before he was ready to kill him to get out of the barrier.

Why? Saile asked himself, was he really that weak? that he needed a mortals help?

The life-force drained from Adam. His face took on a strained, restless expression, but he showed no signs of faltering in his march toward Walt.

The eye in the shield closed, then disappeared altogether. A blur from the right, and then it appeared once more, relocated squarely upon the armor's right shoulder. It gazed downward at the shield (now obsolete without a proper weapon), and the knight paused briefly to smash the aegis against a nearby piece of debris. Half of it broke off instantly, shattering and littering the ground with shards, while the rest of it remained bound to the arm. It was no longer a safe barrier, but now a nasty looking mess of sharp edges sported at the break.

The red eye swiveled back towards Walt's hiding spot, and the knight resumed walking, the large razor edges of the once proud looking shield clearly intended for a terrible deed.

((Compare to breaking a beer bottle.))

Nadine stood her ground, grabbing hold of a column by the entrance to the schoolhouse in an attempt to stay put. When the blast subsided, she let the fire go out. It clearly wasn't doing anything. She took another cautious step into the building, casting out her awareness in search of a mind.

"..." Okay, that's enough energy for now, Walt thought, ceasing his draining from Adam. In order to have an adequate weapon, he destroyed part of his protection. Hm... He looked beyond Adam, to Salie, or whoever he was. Why was he just lying there? Was he...No, the blast couldn't have gotten him. If it did, it would have shattered him completely. Walt felt a tingling from his wrist and looked down at that charm bracelet, which seemed to glow, as if telling him something. He may not be dead, but maybe...on the inside...I'd better get to him somehow... Walt thought about what to do. He had taken some of Adam's energy, but that didn't mean he could waste it on any useless attacks. He stepped out from behind the pile of rubble, and merely stood his ground. He would evade Adam's attack, then get to "Salie" and do...whatever that bracelet was signaling him to do. But he had to make sure Adam followed him so he wouldn't go after Nadine. Maybe what he'd have to do was avoid Adam's attack, blast that red eye so as to tick the armor off, then make a break for it.
