The flame dispelled as he kept his eye on Sayuka.
"I've trained in various styles that I learned from witnessing many tournaments. In fact, I've watched every King of Fighters tournament to date and learned just about everything they know. But whose moves I know'll be a secret till you watch my matches."
He did indeed pick up various fighting styles and formed his own. The variants he will use... are rather seamless in nature. Almost impenetrable his defenses were in some cases since he had moves for any situation people tended to throw at him.

Age: In the early twenties, he isn't exactly sure.
Nationality/World: ???, Earth (Alt. future)
Height: 5' 10"
Race: Anglo-Saxon (a.k.a. White)
Fighting Style: Counter/MagiReflect-Style; Uses special set of mirrors (8, about head-sized) as weapons.
Appearance: Considered as worn around the edges, with dark, messy, shoulder-length hair, and a cheerful disposition with a lazy smile. He usually has a long, ocean-green trench coat on with a special pin under his left lapel. Up until a certain point, his coat held the mirrors with a sewn on belt system, but recently, he rebuilt the belts to be on his body rather than attached to the coat, for convenience sake. Underneath the coat, he wears a tan shirt with a pair of blue-jeans, both worn with travel.
History: Originally from a point in the not-so-distant future, W. Hubris came to this tourney out of a sense of slight boredom (or so he says). In truth, he is an amnesiac, as to the events of his world up until a point, where he awoke without his memories, and got his weapon-set and an aching head. He prefers to not reference the future to much for the sake of time paradox, although it is honestly too late. In truth, his name is a pseudonym, "Hurbis" in relation to the mirrors and the honed-abilities he has with them. The "W" in his name relates to a combination of the pin he wears, and the need to have a first name to fill in on the tournament entry form (or so the woman in charge of forms said).

Stepping through the doors, the faint sound of chiming glass-on-glass, Hurbis stepped into the room. It was already full of several fighters, each of different skill and talent, no doubt. He wondered if he would've been in here before now if the registration didn't take so long to complete.

He had a water bottle with him--compliments of the vending machine outside-- and took a swing while examining those around him.

Sayuka nodded. She could tell he was highly skilled, adaptable, strong... he's quite a force to be reckoned with. There aren't many warriors quite like him. In a sense, she was that same way... she's had a lot of experience under her belt for the past 14 years she's been fighting... and 14 years is a pretty long time.

To Sayuka, though, half those years kind of flew by her memory. Mainly because it was spent fighting, and she hadn't bothered to remember pointless fights.

She didn't break seals or whatnot like Kohryu did, of course. She didn't have that sort of ability. Then again, she didn't need it. She knew it... this man was her equal. Maybe more. Maybe less. Well, she didn't count on him being less... he had too much fighting power to be anything like that.

Mizushima got her mind back on focus, "Ah, yes... that Yagami guy... there was a nasty incident that occurred in the KoF `96 tournament... and another crazy incident the following year. I wonder what went down with that guy..."

Another man had entered who happened to notice Hurbis enter... he had a slight tanned complexion, and was wearing white karate pants, fastened to his waist with a black belt, and black foot pads to match his black gloves... he kept his purple hair bundled in a ponytail in back.

"Hm, so another guy enters..." He said to himself, "Wonder if he'll be a match for me... a worthy opponent..."

This particular man was Reiji Oyama, infamous for participating in the Goketsuji tournaments... and the Goketsuji were somewhat revered in Japan, having been known as one of the wealthiest families there. He, of course, was of Goketsuji blood, a descendant, no less, and was constantly searching for a worthy foe. He figured maybe the Clash of Powers tournament would help him find one...

"That Yagami guy? Oh him. Yeah. He went nuts. I think he killed his teammates on two counts... In the most recent one he almost killed Kusanagi. Not pretty. I feel bad for the Traffic Light." By that, he was referring to Shingo. (Considering Shingo in japanese also translates to Traffic Light.) Shrugging, he just face palmed as he saw Hibiki.
"Tournaments like this always either bug or excite me. This year's does both considering I have a new set of opponents and Hibiki is being his usually annoying self. I doubt there'll be a single scrub left after prelims. Cig?" He asked, pulling out a pack.

"No thanks," Sayuka said in a polite tone with a calm smile, "I quit smoking long ago." She then turned and noted Dan, "Hm, that's that weird guy..." She then watched as Dan began to bother Reiji, who was quickly becoming annoyed by Dan himself, "I think I recognize that guy he's talking to... that's that Reiji Oyama guy... of the Goketsuji family. I hear that he was one of a big number of contestants in a fight for their clan leadership, all of them related to the family by blood. It was pretty infamous. They say the Goketsuji are a mysterious clan... and have equally mysterious powers."

The Goketsuji are a mysterious clan, but compared to the former Kohryu, they're the same thing. Dangerous when angry." He then took a cig out, taking a drag and blowing smoke away from Sakuya.
"If you want my take on things, I'll tell you that if the competition is boring, it'll be too easy for us. That Goketsuji kid will prove worth it. If his power doesn't burn him to ashes."

Dan then got a fierce look of seriousness on his face that caused sparkles and glowing... which then hurt his face, "Aiiii!"

"Idiot," Reiji grumbled in the background at Dan from behind him.

"Interesting crowd..." Hurbis muttered to himself as he walked over to a nearby trashcan. He had polished the water off, leaving just the empty bottle to dispose of. He wondered if he should just wait until the start or try to chat with some of these people. Unfortunately, while his mind was on the subject of how to effectively break the ice and get himself noticed, he threw the bottle and missed the can, the bottle instead bouncing off the wall and landing right under his foot as he turned to walk away.

The fall he preformed couldn't have been planned any better. He landed, on his back, looking up at a small group of people.
'Owch... He thought to himself still staring at those above him. 'Ah, these are the one's who I'd heard talking about teaching and students.'
"Uh, hiya." He said with a sheepish grin, still on his back.

Kory laughed, as if he actually liked being patted on the head. Then, when Dan screamed, Kory feigned fear. "I'd hate to have to fight you, Mr. Dan," he said, making his voice sound shaky.

Kory couldn't keep up his excited kid act up much longer. "Okay," he said, "Then I'm sure we'll at least put on a good show." He used his regular voice and stood up straight. No longer was Kory the one Dan thought he knew. "Don't lose before fighting me or I'll be ever so cross with you."

Glad that his faux-pas was ignored, Hubris had gotten himself up and threw the bottle safely away (after using it as ammo with the rest of the room at Dan). He was more than curious as to who these people were, but more so on when the battles would start.

"All in good time," He muttered to himself before realizing he was talking to himself. "Geez, I need help..."
He walked over to the wall nearby and just leaned against it, waiting for the fights to begin.

Taking a final drag and putting the cigarette out, Orochi walked to the bracket without a word. Hibiki was a mere fly to him because of the sole fact that he couldn't hurt one to save his life. Looking at it he noticed the opponents weren't even decided so he had to wait longer to hurt someone to the brink of death. Walking back to Sayuka.
"Tch. They didn't even get the matches set up. How long will they make us wait?"

Sayuka then noticed someone was coming... apparently, someone who's involved with working the tournament. "I think you're about to find out," said the psychic girl.

"The fights will begin shortly," A beautiful woman with black hair and wearing a complex, gold-adorned and armored dress said, giving a respectful bow to all those who were present, "Thank you all for your patience... we will allow 10 more minutes for last-minute sign ups and final preparations. After that, the tournament will begin."

Rygar nodded in response, though likely without realizing he was.

Reiji slammed his fist into his palm, "Hmmm..."

Dan was digging around in his ear as he listened, half-way paying attention.

"The one in charge looks forward to every one of you fighting with all your power," the woman continued, "...I am his assistant, Komugi... if you have any questions in the meantime, you are welcome to ask me anything."

Minny quickly signed up and went into the main room. The room was crowded with many fighters waiting anxiously for the tourney to begin. Woah there are a lot of people here she thought much more than I expected... Minny felt a little nervous for a second, she had never been to a tourney with this many participants. She sighed and thought Minny, come on, you can do this! This is great, you finally have a challenge! Just act normal and keep it cool. She decided to try and find out when the event was to begin. She started walking around and when she wasn't paying any attention, walked straight into someone. "Aghh! geez I'm sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going...". So much for keeping it cool...

((I don't care who I bumped into, so yeahh ^^; ))

He felt the person practically ram into him, but still stood up.
"Hm? Go on, they're going to leave you behind, so sign up." He said, pointing a thumb at the signups sheet. What an odd person He thought as he looked at the person who just bumped into him. Orochi merely looked back to the woman announcing the matches. If his first match was against an idiot, he'd make sure it didn't last long enough to irritate him. If it was Sayuka, he'd show her what the Kohryu blood does when in battle.

History: Lydia seems to be quite a timid and weak girl, and very, very shy. She is, however, incredibly cute. Her parents died in a car crash when she was young, and so Lydia was looked after by her grandmother. Her grandmother made her teddy bear for her fifth birthday, which she dubbed Mr Cuddles. Strangely, the bear is still in perfect condition. It's not known why she entered the tournament, but she says to anyone who asks "For fun". She tends to be very apologetic when she beats or hurts someone.
Fighting Style: Mr Cuddles. Yes, you read that right. Her bear fights for her. Lydia focuses her mind to try and help Mr Cuddles fight. Lydia's grandmother is said to have known magic, so perhaps she enchanted the bear to life. It can either grow tall or it can take the form of another fighter.
Appearance: Brown curly hair, which falls to her shoulders. Green eyes, a white, sleeveless t-shirt, a plaid skirt which falls to just above her knees. She also wears brown boots that go up just past her ankles. She wears a bracelet made up of red beads, which is said to be her lucky charm.

(Well, I'd hate to do it, but enter a fourth... I think I'll note to myself that crossovers are futile here from now on. XD)

Another woman soon entered the tournament and signed up just in time... finally, a new chance to show she's not just some small fry... and, maybe if she's lucky, find clues to her parents' whereabouts. Okay, it was a futile shot, but you never know...

She was wearing her usual red and white fighting attire, of course... just the usual for such situations. The girl in question's name happened to be Liu Yungmie, having become somewhat infamous herself during the Great Grapple tournaments...

"Oho~..." Sayuka took notice of her and smirked, "I never expected her to come here... I guess it takes all kinds..."

Komugi then added her to the charts, "Hm, an even 12... so far..."

The excitement was getting to him. He wanted to meet these people, but on the field of battle rather than just a 'how do you do'. Everybody reveals their true selves when in combat, whether you are a coward, reckless, brave; it all comes forth in danger.

A brown curly haired and cute girl looked up as Komugi annouced that the matches were ready to begin. She nodded meekly and timidly stood up, clutching a small brown bear with a ribbon on his neck in her arms.

"It's all right, Mr Cuddles...we can win this...I think. I just hope I don't hurt anyone too badly..." She whispered to the bear.

Hmm...yet another joins the fray....but one so meek make it through? The trites and battles...only few...shall survive this tourney. As I wait for this to start...I wonder "Is this a test of strength? Or more so...a test of heart.

Shrum gui let his mind ponder this. What will happen? Who will win? Will it be a man of faith, cloak clad, and thinking straight?

Will it be the boy of soul? full of pep, and ready to roll?

The narcissistic man in pink, who is so superior, or at least he thinks.

Many many more have entered, and maybe a few to come, but one question still remains

Who will be the one to overcome?

He noticed the rest of the room was slowly gravitating towards the versus-rosters, and realized things were about to kick off.

"Whelp, this'll be fun." Hurbis said, making his way to the check the roster and follow the others. "If anything, I'll be able to spot any flaws in my techniques and skills, maybe pick up a hand-to-hand move or two... gah, gotta stop talking to myself."

Smirking, Orochi merely walked to the designated room, and sat on a chair, legs crossed and hands still in pockets. If anything, he was ready to hurt someone. This was making him still smile despite the annoying wait. Today, blood will be spilled. His first match will be a bloody one if his opponent doesn't submit in time. And that wasn't exactly much time.
"Hmph. I'll still wait. I eagerly wait for the first victim." He said with an evil smile about his face.

And so... the Clash of Powers Tournament was under way... everything was prepared! And people had gathered to watch the warriors battle it out for dominance. Who would be the supreme fighter? Who'd be the Royal Kicker of Asses? Who'd be the champ? There was only one way to find out...!!!

Komugi would approach the middle of the stadium, throwing out her arms and smiling into the cameras. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. And, with all gratitude, we welcome each and every one of you to the 10th annual Clash of Powers tournament.
This year, the participants aren't nearly as large as last years, but that's okay--they all have a lot of potential. And, we promise this will be as exciting as all the rest.
Allow me to draw your attention to the match set up."

Komugi would then point over to the Titantron, showing the layout of the tournament...

"The first four matches will proceed accordingly, much like an 8 man tournament... the second round of battles are special in that the opponents in that section are designated to that series of rounds. Need an example, friends?
Let's say our friend Orochi wins his first match... that means whoever is designated to the second battle will be his opponent, rather than the person who won the following match.
After those rounds, everything proceeds much like a normal tournament until there is one winner... that is, unless our... special guest... wakes up in time... he's kind of a sleepy head."

With the explanation finished, the titantron blacked out, and Komugi smiled as her face appeared back on it, "I think you all understand how this is going to work. Oh, and another thing... it's possible that some matches may have special handicaps... I'm sure everyone is awaiting another mine field battle, maybe even a flaming barrier ring match...~"

"Hm... so this tournament is a little more extreme than most..." Sayuka said to herself, having been listening to the explanation...

"I'm wondering what she meant by a special guest..." Yungmie then added.

"Now then... let's get the match setup underway..." Komugi then turned to the giant monitor, "Here's the order. The first match will be Orochi against Reiji...
For the second match... it will be Rahfka fighting Yungmie.
Third... Kory versus Dan...
And finally, for the fourth, Shrum battling Rygar..."

Komugi then paused for a moment before continuing.

"The next set of matches are predesignated... Whoever wins the first match, will fight Sayuka Mizushima.
In the second match, the winner will face Lydia Robinson...
For the third, the winner will go against Minjuaeh Lyu.
And for the fourth, it will be the winner against W. Hurbis."

After that, Komugi grinned, "After that, things will proceed as normal... I must apologize to the second bracket of warriors, the wait to fight may be a while... but it's what we drawn. You may all do what you wish to do in the meantime.
Now... with everything explained... I think we can just get straight to the fighting. Why don't we have our first two fighters come out right now? Reiji! Orochi! It's time!"

(I must apologize in advance... I seem to have a lot of my own matches... but it's mainly so that there'll be an even amount of matches. >_>;)

Dan? Hm...BEST PERSON TO FIGHT EVER! Kory thought as he walked over to Dan. "I guess you'll be going agains me," he said with a smile on his face. "Against an awesome fighter like you, I wouldn't stand a chance. Guess I'll just hope I can put on a good show."

"Ohohohoho, you flatter me!!" Dan laughed, patting Kory on the shoulder, "Don't worry, I'll make it as painless as possible!" Of course, Dan was clearly underestimating Kory... Sayuka herself had the feeling there was more to the kid than meets the eye.

Rygar approached Shrum and shook hands with him, "In advance... may the best man win."

"Thank you, Dan," Kory said. "You're so generous." Kory smiled. He had Dan wrapped around his finger. Dan would be in for a surprise when they fight, and Kory silently promised to himself that he would beat that guy.

Hubris quickly jumped into Rygar and Shrum's conversation.
"May hope the best man win indeed." he spoke with a smile, still walking towards to the two. "With the way things are set up, whoever wins the first rounds will be at a general disadvantage against their opponent in the second rounds."

"Well, there IS that, but... you also show what moves you have to the second set opponents. I'm being fair and tipping you guys off now, but the rest of these guys might not be so lucky to figure it out." He said, pointing with his thumb to the others. "Think of it-- while you show your moves off and tire out, the second set get to watch while you don't get the chance to see theirs until you go up against them."

He tapped his head with a finger. "Strategy is the other half of a battle. If you can't plan ahead of the most cunning opponents, they'll try to tear you up with some ace-in-the-hole."
