Mia forked her last sausage and tapped it lightly on her plate as she spoke, "No time in particular, as I don't have any official cases right now." She smiled. "It's one of the few benefits of running my own firm."

"It sounds nice. I've been watching Miles forever. It looks like its so satisfying. I think it's the only time I really see him enjoy himself. Well unless he's plastered, but that's sort of to be expected." Nick rambled a little before catching himself. "I think they're going to let him out today. We should be there to pick him up."

Mia nodded. "Somehow I don't think he's going to be in the greatest mood when he's let out of there, but then I can't recall a time when I've seen him in anything remotely like a good mood."

He put his plate in the sink and immediately started to wash it.
"It is kind of rare, and not a lot of people know it when they see it." Nick sighed and scrubbed. "He's just always been like that though. Larry and I would tell a joke and you could never tell if he thought it was funny or not. We couldn't even get him to laugh until the eight grade. I mean, that's not right, is it? Kids should laugh a lot." Nick shook his head and got a paper towel to dry the dish off with. Then he finished his juice and started to wash the cup.

Mia stood and brought her dishes over to the sink. "You're right, but then, the DL-6 incident probably didn't help things much."

"The what?" Nick hadn't heard it referred to quite that way before, but he had a vague idea of what Mia was talking about. He took her dishes and started to wash them. "Oh yeah, the elevator thing. Mr. Edgeworth was unconscious for weeks after that. Miles never left the hospital. I had to bring his homework to him because he missed class. Still made better grades than me." Nick smirked. "I'm glad he made it though. No telling what Mr. Edgeworth dieing would have done to him."

Mia's face darkened as she absentmindedly worried her magatama. "Losing a family member is incredibly hard, especially at a young age, I know from experience."

"Yeah, I guess." Nick didn't really have any experiance to draw from on the matter. Both of his parents were alive and well and living out their retirement in Florida. He finished the dishes and dried his hands. "I need to go get dressed." He informed Mia before walking towards his room.

"Not at all." Phoenix said loudly from the hallway. He was in his room shortly and picking out something clean. He settled on a black hoodie over a white button up shirt and black pants. He slipped on some socks and shoes and went into the bathroom. This was the part of his day that took the longest. He had to fix his hair. It was always a bit unruly and would stick up no matter what style he put it in, so back in college he figured he might as well make it look like he was doing it on purpose. It took a surprising amount of gel and time to get it to do something that it almost wanted to do all by itself.

Mia walked back into Larry's room and gathered her clothes that she'd left out to dry the night before. She folded them up, and tossed on her shoes and overcoat before walking back out to the living room and tossing her cell phone back into her pocket.

Mia was done long before Nick was, but when he did come into the living room he looked fresh and happy. He'd nicked his chin some shaving, and the blood was pooling up in the tissue a bit, but otherwise he looked nice and respectable. It was too bad the course of the day would leave him looking completely disheveled.
"Ready to go?"

"Okay." Phoenix opened the door for her, and when she walked through he locked it. "I guess we aren't walking then." He almost sounded disappointed. Not because he liked walking, just that it took longer and he was enjoying the company.

Mia chuckled and took his hand. "i said it wasn't far, but that was referring to traveling by car. It'd be quite the hike, Phoenix."

"It's cold and wet out too." Phoenix agreed with her. He wasn't quite expecting her to take his hand, so it took a minute for him to speak again. "Ah, we should be as fast as we can. If I know Edgy he's got his clothes on and he's dialing a taxi by now." Nick chuckled.

"Nah, he's pretty nice to total strangers. Mr. Edgeworth managed to pound that into him at least." Nick used the stairs down and took another exit that led directly to the parking lot. It was cold and damp from the storm the other day, but not as frigid as it had been. "It's going to rain again today." Nick observed.

"Maybe it'll just snow." Nick said as he looked up at the clouds. He looked up at a lot of things. "It's been cold enough to for a while, and I'd prefer it over the rain that's for sure." He sighed as they walked up to her car. Once inside he adjusted the passenger seat so he could be more comfortable. The last person she'd given rides to must have been much shorter than he was. He hadn't really thought to ask if it was okay to adjust the seat. His mind just wasn't on matters of politeness at the moment.

"Maybe. I wouldn't complain if we did get some snow actually." Mia's car rumbled to life after a few minutes of coaxing. After they'd made it out onto the road Mia sighed, "I have a feeling I'm going to need to take this car in sometime soon with the way it's been acting."

"Yeah?" Nick replied if only because he knew he was supposed to. His mind was jumping between thoughts again, plus he was nervous about going to see Miles. He kept getting flashes of the incident in his mind that he wished would just go away. He didn't want to think of his best friend like that. He took out the blueprint papers in his pocket and forced himself to work on it.

Mia nodded, but didn't say anything else until they pulled up to her apartment building. "My apartment is on the third floor. I shouldn't be long, so do you want to come up?"

"Huh?" Nick looked up from the paper. "Ah, I should probably finish this." He smiled up at her, then went back to focusing on the blueprint. There wasn't really much he could add or change, but he'd find something damnit...

Mia nodded and walked into the building. She was only gone for about twenty minutes before coming back out dressed in one of her usual suits. She quickly slid back into the drivers' seat and started the car again.

[OOC: We're still waiting on you, Ben. I'll stall for more time.]

Phoenix jumped when Mia's car started to sputter and jerk. She muttered something as she pulled off the road. Nick was pretty sure it wasn't something pleasant. The air was wet and misty as the two of them got out to see what was wrong. Not that Nick would be of any help at all.

Mia moved to the front of the car and pulled the hood open. She examined the engine, the expression on her face getting darker by the minute.
Shutting the hood disgustedly, Mia turned to Phoenix, "Somehow, I think we're not going to be getting over to the hospital anytime soon."

"We could start walking." Nick shrugged. Cue the rain. "Or not." He sighed as the warm drops pelted his head and shoulders. "I've got the number for the taxi service on my cell." He told her before getting back into the car. "Um, do you need to call a mechanic or tow truck or something?" He wondered when she joined him.

"I called a tow truck before I came back in. Luckily, I know a good mechanic in vicinity." She sighed. "My car is fairly old, so as much as I'd like to, I can't say this is the first time this has happened..."

Nick nodded before he hung up.
"They're busy. I'll just have to try again later." He sighed. "Maybe the rain will let up." He offered. He wasn't sure how that would help, but he didn't know enough about cars to say anything useful.

Mia sighed and leaned back in her seat. "Well, we can always ride over to the mechanics with the tow truck, if worst comes to worst. It's not that bad of a situation if you think about it, but it's still irritating..."

Nick took it and dialed.
"Miles? How-" Nick closed his eyes. "Sorry." He swallowed. "Well good-" He sighed and hung up. "luck..." He muttered. "There's a detective over there talking to him. Guess I interrupted." He grumbled.

Mia sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "The Police work with the District Prosecutor's office. Unless you can convince an officer to share the information with you, a lot of times you're left in the dark until the trial day. That's why most defense attorneys perform their own investigations and interrogations."

"Oh." Nick rubbed some of the wet out of his. "Everytime I saw Mr. Edgeworth work the police just told him things. I guess that's why he throws all those parties, huh?" He forced himself to laugh. "Would explain while Miles gets so grumpy though. Detectives don't tend to like him much."

Mia chuckled and nodded. "Mr. Edgeworth was a favorite at the police department partially because he threw those parties. I think that's why the police were willing to volunteer information when he was on a case. I generally have a hard time even getting into an crime scene unless Detective Gumshoe happens to be heading the investigation. He's fairly easy to get info out of and more than willing to let defense attorneys poke around. i've never been quite sure why, though."

"Maybe he's just passive aggressive?" Nick replied after some thought. "He gets treated pretty bad at the department, you know." He thought some more. "Actually, I wonder who the prosecutor is going to be on the case? Maybe we'll get Payne and it'll be nice open and shut."
