A rough sound of footsteps were produced. A man wearing a ratty green coat walked in, with a depressed look on his face. As he entered his stomach growled, a sign of his forced diet.

"Sorry pal, I'd hate to do this, but visiting hours ended fifteen minutes ago." said the scruffy detective.

For now I'll only comment and encourage, they appear to have true love from the past five years up to this point." Miles thought to himself.

Now...

Phoenix walked past the doors of the detention center, his hands in his pockets. He stole frequent glances back at Iris, still smiling sweetly at him, occasionally waving. He felt Gumshoe losing his patience, but didn't care. As he finally rounded the corner, he reflected on his time at the jail house.
"I hope her sentence isn't too harsh...she did it to protect Maya, after all." He sighed, wondering. "I wonder if our judicial system is actually able to serve justice."
He continued around the corriders until he rounded one and crashed into a man making his way out as well. The man had an expensive purple suit and a white corset on.

Just then a rumbleing noise was heard coming from the vent. Little did they know that from inside the vent was Larry. "Man how could Ron run around in these tights?" Larry asked himself,putting on his mask and becoming the new Mask*DeMasque. He got on the intercom.,though a system he stole from Atmey's office, and said "AH HA HA HA HA. This is Mask*DeMasque saying that tonight I will break a criminal free". No one ever suspected that that would be Larry and that he'd break Iris out.

As Gumshoe turned to Iris, he thought he heard clanging in the air vent. He stopped for a moment to listen to any more noise, however it was met with silence. Assuming that he just heard something, he shrugged it off and began to escort Iris back to her cell.

Phoenix also heard the clanging, and considered alerting Edgeworth or Gumshoe, but Edgeworth's curt brush-off and Gumshoe's curtailing of his visit made him reconsider. "I sure it's just a couple of rats," he thought to himself as we walked off. "Nothing to worry about..." he thought, even though he thought he did hear an eerie booming voice.

He tried to hail a cab, but for five minutes there were no cars on the road. He wandered around the streets surrounding the detention center for an hour, although never leaving its vicinity, and the desolation continued. He wondered if the police would give him a ride...or..."Maybe I could spend the night at the detention center..."he mused, but quickly shook the thought away. He made his way back towards the detention center.

Meanwhile...

Iris was lying on her bed, her hands over her heart, and pondering about what to do when she was released. She would most certainly have to go back to Hazakura, albeit even temporarily, but Phoenix had shown genuine interest in her.

Suddenly, the sound of an awkward figure making its way through the upper air vents echoed across the halls. She was startled, but didn't move. Then, a voice came on. A familiar voice....

"Mr. Laurice? Oh my..."

"What are you doing, Nick?" Maya asked as she followed Phoenix out of the detention center. "You usually don't ignore me like that..." As Phoenix walked around, Maya started blabbering about anything that came to mind: the Steel Samurai, Pearly, why hamburgers were nature's perfect food...But Phoenix didn't seem to be interested. Then, Phoenix began walking back towards the detention center. "Er...Nick! I don't have bus fare! Hey!" She felt herself getting a little upset. "Pearly won't like to be left alone at the office, Nick. Her train from Kurain should be arriving soon," she said as she followed Phoenix. What was it about Iris that left Phoenix like that. So...Absorbed in his thoughts. Unaware of Maya's chatting.

Larry found himself just above Iris' cell. He took the grate off then put a blindfold on her and tied her up. Then he knocked out the gaurd and used his I.D. to open the door. He then preseded to run down the halls.

Miles heard the running of what might have been two people down the halls. Considering the possibly that someone was attempting to escape he rushed to a alarm button and pressed it, blaring alarm sounds. He turned down a hall to see what looked like someone in a Mask*DeMasque with a tied up Iris. "Hold on Larry and yes you would be the only one with infauation towards Iris that would be stupid enough to try to break her out."

"N-Nick, are you listening to me?" Maya shouted over the alarm. She knew the answer before Phoenix even said anything. What would it take for that dope to pay any attention to her? She over exaggerated a groan and walked to the hallway and saw Edgeworth scowling at Mask*DeMasque, who was holding a tied up and blindfolded Iris.
"W-What's going on here?!" Maya screamed, her anger towards Nick clearly heard in that one question.

((Well, she must've seen something, because he had to blindfold her afterwards. Plus, she would have looked the instant Larry burst into her cell, so she would've seen something, namely the ridiculous outfit))

Phoenix wasn't paying attention.
"Larry! What are you doing?" He demanded. His focus was away from Maya, but he knew that she had asked the very same question. He decided to take things into his own hands though. "Don't you think for once, you may have crossed the line?" he asked forcefully, trying to keep his temper in check.

(sorry I'm a little late to post this)

Gumshoe awoke with a start in the security room. He wondered where he was, as the unfamiliar setting confused him. He then remembered that he had taken a night job as the jail's security guard. While he had adapted to living with a pathetic salary, he needed more money ever since he and Maggey had started dating. Unfortionatly the increased toll on his sleeping hours had finnaly surpassed his strong will. As the alarms continued to blare he checked the cameras. Finnaly he noticed that Cell #49 was empty...Iris' cell.

"Ah, for cryin' out loud" he exclaimed.

"How does everyone know it's me, I'm wearing a mask. Oh well" he said as he thew a trap net at Phoenix, his mask at Maya, and kicked Edgeworth. He then picked up the net with Phoenix inside and ran out the door. He him and Iris put them in a taxie, told the driver where to go, and gave them a swiss army knife to cut them free.

"Have a good time" Larry said.

Miles got up after the assault by what he assumed to be Larry. "I can't believe I was knocked out by Larry of all people." An officer soon approached him and Maya who were now up. "Alert other Law Enforcement officers that a Larry Butz broke an inmate out of prison and to issue a warrant for his arrest."

Salary deduction. Salary Deduction. Salary deduction. These were the words that echoed through Gumshoe's head after he walked away from a furious Miles Edgeworth. While Edgeworth had not yet said anything about a deduction, Gumshoe had had enough to know that one wasn't that far away.

"Detective Gumshoe, sir" said an officer.

Gumshoe looked at him. A lower ranking officer had approached him with news. Gumshoe knew this particular officer, and wondered how he got paid more than he did.

"What is is pal?" queried Gumshoe

"The suspect, Mr.Butz, has been arrested" replied the officer.

'Oh, joy' Gumshoe thought to himself 'maybe I won't get a deduction and I won't have to cancel the date on Friday.'

Phoenix and Iris were escorted away from the taxi, and were led into a police station, along with Larry Butz.

"W-why did h-he do that?" Iris asked

"I...really don't know. Sometimes Larry does things that are inexplicable to ordinary people. Anyways, I'm just glad that you're safe."

"..." She looked at him, her eyes slightly sparkling. "Th-thank...you"

((Um I don't think you read my post right VHT. It stated that Larry had captured Phoenix as well and he put him and Iris in a Taxi where he gave a location to the driver an a knife to cut them free.))

Gumshoe looked at the man in the orange jacket that was being escorted into the detention center by two officers. He seemed vaugly familiar, almost as if he had met him before. However the only thing that came to his mind was painting for some reason. 'Totally different person' he told himself.

Gumshoe pitied the man, he could tell this guy was a generic looser. At least Gumshoe had his up days every now and then. Reguardless, the man almost got him fired, and the detective ordered the two officers to continue on.

Phoenix walked was debating in his mind whether to object to Larry's arrest or to just let it happened. He was torn between the two ideaological entities, the first that Larry was his friend from grade school, and the second being that Larry wasn't a very good friend.

He shook his head. Iris was also being re-escorted into a jail cell. Her eyes looked serene, not in the least pleading, yet he found himself doing nothing. It was like his muscles just locked up.

"I-I...need some fresh air" he thought, and walked outside towards the nearest burger joint.

"N-Nick..." Maya said as Phoenix walked away. She turned to Iris.
"I'm so sorry, Iris. None of us knew Larry would go that far..." she said. Then, she caught up with Phoenix. Er...Nick, I know this is a bad time, but Pearly will be arriving soon. No, I can't say that. Not yet. If only there was some way to cheer him up... Maya realized where Phoenix was heading, so she quickly touched Phoenix to get his attention.
"You can't tell me you were expecting to have burgers without me!" she said, cheerily. Then, her smile fell. "Look, Nick. If you want to talk, I'm always here for you. You can tell me anything."

"Oh, sorry Maya. I'm just a bit shaken by this whole thing. I didn't know Larry would do something this extreme either. I mean, I did hear about him following a girlfriend halfway across the world, but this?" He shook his head. "I need to clear my mind. I just thought eating some of the cheap, unhealthy foods that you indulge in regularly at grievous costs to my wallet would satiate me and allow me some room to breathe." he continued despite Maya's apparent glare.

"I understand, Nick," she said. "Unhealthy food it is!" She strode towards the burger joint. "...You know, Nick...I get the feeling there's more to your being upset than what Larry did. I mean, that's the main thing, but something underneath the surface of that is what's bothering you." She didn't want to say what she thought it was. What if she was wrong? She held her breath to see Phoenix's response before she'd continue.

"Well, okay, Nick," Maya said. "Looks like you could use a Triple-Decker Whopper, with cheese and pickles and ketchup and mustard, maybe some onion, tomato, and lettuce...And extra bacon!" The obsession Larry has bothers him for other reasons...I guess I should just accept that Nick will tell me when he's ready, she thought. In the mean time, I'll just be normal. Chat about the Steel Samurai and the Pink Princess until his ears fall off.

While Larry was being questiond he decided to scetch the guy questioning him. "So detective" he asked "what's wrong with reuniting two hearts? As a man who can't with himself I decided to play cupid. Tell me what's wrong with that?".

Miles had observed over Gumshoe's interrigation from the time it had started. "If Larry could get an inmate out of prison successfully then our whole prison system must have the standards of the Supermax." "Fine" Larry said "I'll coaperate. After I became a profesianal artist I was still worried about Iris. But then I got to thinking 'do I really like Iris?' So I decided to look over the cases that Nick was recently in and that led to two other cases. So then I decided that Iris belongs to Nick, leaving Maya for me. And so I got trained by Ron on his steth manuvers and I took some devices from the Atmey Detective Agentcy and then I broke her free to play cupid. I also made a piece about Nick and Iris that I call 'The Firebird's flower' and it's going to be autioned off next week, if you're intrested".

Phoenix finished his burger and took his leave earlier than Maya, who, under the accumulated weight of many many burgers, was immobilized.
