Oh yeah. No direct incest, guys. It's not a huge deal since there's only one family here, so think "Adam and Eve" kinda thing, but brothers and sisters can't get married. Sorry.

I want to say something in light of the first Wedding RP being closed.

Please, guys, follow forum rules. 50 word posts, no Godmodding. Gerk gave them a warning, but they kept going, so you guys have to follow the rules or else everything's going to be ruined.

Be mindful of it, and please follow those rules.

Seconding this. A lot of you should already know of the 50 word rule, and I know that it's not easy to always do 50 words, but when it gets to be a string of one-liners, that's no good.

Yeah, even my non-RP posts can get above fifty words. It's somewhat easy if you just go into a bit more detail. It's like a story: the more details you get, the more reference your imagination has for picturing the scene.

Anyway, I'm also still available, ladies :jake:

(EDIT: Wow, 48 words. Even that post was cutting it quite close.)

And I third what CCCM said about the closed wedding thread. I mean, the rules are simple enough to follow. I mean, when I first started RPing way back in '08, I wasn't aware of the 50+ words rule, just of the no G-Ming one. After I started following both rules, well, my RPing became drastically better. :) It only hurts to add details when you put in far too many and produce a gigantic wall of text that others get disoriented reading, only for one line of dialogue in the entire post. And so far, I haven't read any posts that do that, so you're all good to go to add more detail! Except maybe Slezak. :P

...And I bet I broke fifty words, just with this giant rant. XD.

I remember when I was RPing back in '08 and '09, I always tried to push the 50 word rule in my RPs (wild west anyone? XD) because when people kept posting one liners, the RP almost always died. I mean, every now and then a short post was fine (read: one or two per page), but it got annoying when I had one liner after one liner after one liner.

These rules are here for a reason: they work. Koopa's right, when you give only dialogue in a post it really ruins it.

And even if you can't describe the scenery or anything, you could fill it up with your character's thought processes. That's what I like to do. ^_^

Here is your old buddy Elias with the rules of roleplaying improv to help out the young'uns.

1. Movement: Everyone is constantly moving. Unless you are a professional soldier/band member you won't stat at attention all the time. Pacing, twiddling the thumbs, even a simple smile, smirk, or chuckle will do.

2. Location: Odds are that everything in a location wasn't mentioned the moment the location was introduced. Feel free to embellish on this. If you are given redneck bar, you could mention the drunk at the end of the bar, some biker playing pool with a local mechanic, or maybe just the simple fact that the only lighting in the place comes from the Budwiser lamp over the pool table and four year old Christmas lights strewn along the ceiling.

3. Thinking: This can be iffy. Explaining your characters thought process works wonders, but this can degenerate into "Blah blah blah dialogue," This is what I'm thinking!, then the next post is the same thing. Rather than just straight talking it turns into talk think talk think. Keep an eye on this one.

4. Expanding sentences: "Okay" is nowhere near as good as "Okay, I'll get right on it." Unless your character is specifically listed as speaking very terse, don't be afraid to do that. Also, as a LAST RESORT, you can avoid contractions. This can make things awkward, but at least it's one more word.
