Xero busts in, DDRing on a mobile pad. "TIME TO KICK THIS INTO HIGH GEAR!" He then begins DDRing to Fascination MaxX.

"DDR. Dance Dance Revolution. A very fun game... though it can kill you if you're not careful. Just step on the arrows as they come up on the screen and hit the target area, as the song goes along. You just step to the beat. Easy, yes?"

The boy stepped up on the dance pad...... And picked the hardest song. What? He hasn't heard of DDR, what do you expect?

"holy crap!" the boy's legs were moving really fast...... But not really in rhythm with the song.

Graph entered the room and shoved away some person, occupying Player 2's pad. She scrolled nonchalantly to Heavy Mode and set her favorite settings (2x speed, 1/2 jump-steps, no freeze arrows). Grinning evilly to Xero, she pressed X.
"You pick the song. Get ready."

She smirked smugly and mimed a cup of coffee. "Bring it on, kitten." A few seconds before the song began, she changed her settings to 1x speed. She was good, but not THAT good. The BPM was off the charts; she wasn't going to commit virtual suicide. Testing the arrows with four careful steps, she gestured to Xero. "I know what I'm doing."

Years of daily practice began to fail Graph as the arrows passed the grid at the top of her screen. Taking a much-needed 5-second reprieve, she wiped a bead of sweat from her temples. Soon, she had recovered, and had somehow avoided failure during her rest. Her sneakers slammed the pad with every hastened step. The song's speed increased, then stopped suddenly. Luring Graph into a false sense of security, the song blasted steps at her again, catching her off-guard. Surviving 7 Boos and an Almost, she felt a second wave of strength, and belted out the steps, praying for the eternal MaxX to end... Xero seemed to be having less trouble than she.

((HOLY FRICK!!! 400 BPM!!! I mean, I know that the MaxX series are sadistic at best, but...

Thanks for the support, DefenseNeverRests.))

(Oh man, trust me. I can't do it iRL. x.x I nearly KILLED myself trying to beat FaxX. Trust me. 400 BPM... and most of the streams are 800.)

Soon, the song broke from 400 to 800 BPM waves (still going 400 BPM speed), and then it slowed down to 200 BPM, giving both dancers a much-needed reprieve.

((I passed a MaxX on Heavy with the help of Cut, No Jump-Step and No Freeze. It was... horrifying.))

Graph swore under her breath as she lost her esteemed 23-combo. Any combo on a psychotic song like this was noteworthy. Still, a few people had crowded around the pads to watch the duel, some chanting her name. Others clapped for Xero, who was beginning to tire, and she was forced to cut out the distraction of crowd noise by keeping one eye on the Dance meter. Finally, with one last burst of eighth-notes, the song ended, and the spectators cheered. The players waited for the results screen to load, still gripping the handlebar.

(I nearly passed MaxX UNLIMITED (300-333 BPM) with no bar, but I lost my focus when a lamp fell, and I failed. I was SO CLOSE too. I was at the ending jumps. DD:)

The grades came up: Xero had gotten a B, while it looked like Graph had gotten a C. "Well, that was more difficult than I had imagined," said Xero. "But this is about the hardest song to beat... Time for a more fun song. Oh, but it's your pick this time."

"Just... one... minute..." Graph panted, bracing herself on the handlebar. Regaining her composure remarkably fast, she was soon scrolling through the tracks indecisively. Picking the aforementioned Godot theme, she paused to screw with her options (Speed 3x, as it was a slow song). The stream rating was massive, though the BPM a measly 104, and the chaos measure as high as possible. Graph cackled. "Brighter than a thousand dying suns, louder and more painful than a world ripped apart... That is your defeat."

Xero grinned, and turned it on 3x as well. "Let's see what you got... if this is anything like the actual song called 'CHAOS', then let me assure you that I'm perfectly trained for this sort of thing." He turned around and made sure that Iris was watching before turning back to the screen. "Now, bring it on!"

"Ah... I see. Showing off for the girl... Ha...! That will be... regrettable." Graph grinned and slammed X. The song began pleasantly, with a few clips of Godot's and Gumshoe's theme. It soon sped into a techno-pop sort of mix, the steps intensifying as the seconds passed. Graph kept her eyes fixed on the screen, her feet moving without thought. She had done this song a thousand times over. This was one that she could win.

Xero refused to give up. "I'm... not showing off..." He stepped almost perfectly with the beat; he had learned how to keep rhythm with almost any song. As long as it wasn't a MAX song, he could do it. Unfortunately, he kept getting a few greats, and he saw that she was getting nearly all perfects. "Grr... I'm not giving up yet!" He focused solely on the screen, letting go of the sounds he heard around him, and he finally got the rhythm down, getting all perfects.

"Oh, shuddup, I'm dancing!" Graph snapped. She had lost her patience for that sort of taunt long ago, and her fury was made clear by the sudden appearance of Marvelous steps. The song's beats became random and chaotic, much like Godot himself, and the arrows were sprawled across the screen. Graph, so caught up in the game, slipped on a particularly difficult combo and barely caught herself. She hung from the handlebar for a second or so, then returned to the dance, cringing as she saw her 97-combo go up in flames. Xero was catching up.

Xero was beginning to get his marvellouses as well (but they don't give any more points than Perfects anyway), and kept with the beat, easily keeping his full-song combo. No more greats; he had to keep going... he didn't want to lose. And if he did, he wanted it to be very close.

The stream of the song reached its peak, and the steps were so continuous that missing one would be missing twenty. Graph and Xero stomped the metal into submission, the vibrations rocking the floor. A large mob had formed and was cheering enthusiastically, only adding to the deafening roar.

"XE-RO! XE-RO!!"
"GRAPH! GRAPH!!"

Godot's song came to an end with the same casual melody that had become synonymous with his name, the Dance Meters of both contestants pulsing a rainbow hue. Iris and the boy held their breath as the results were displayed.

GRAPH: AA
XERO: A

The crowd went insane.

"..." Xero stared at his A. He had actually lost. ... But it wasn't over yet. There was a third, and final, song to go through.

He wasn't about to lose hope now. He turned again to face Iris before turning back around. "This time, I'm going to take you out! I choose... State of Emergency!" He picked the song, and the intensity of the speed, chaos, and stream was immense. The BPM wasn't that high, but the song difficulty meter went off the chart. "I'm not losing this one."

(I can show you the song, it's quite badass. It's 190 BPM, but it's nothing to scoff at... it's VERY difficult on foot.)

"Cut it out, flowery vixen! I'm still here, just resting!" Graph slapped Iris away. "I'm a black belt, you hear!?" Needless to say, this more than provoked Xero, who did not give Graph a chance to change her options. The song began with a much tenser feel. No longer a party-this was a fight.

((-throatclear- Look at my gender. I'm a female, thankyouverymuch.))

Graph cursed at Iris and tried to concentrate on the song, the erratic beat and infuriating slapping shattering her focus. She got 12 Boos in a row, and struggled to survive, dreading the horrible indignity that would face her if she lost.

"Don't, Iris." Xero said without looking back. "I can win this without help." He was getting nearly all perfects, having perfected this by heart. In fact, he whirled around, facing the audience, and kept on, knowing he was hitting the right arrows, and doing a Freestyle.
