"...This might not prove anything, but would everyone agree to show their hands and arms? I can't get those paint smudges out of my head, and the more I think about it, the more I feel it's most likely they got on the step by someone falling through the next stair and catching themselves on that one, plush this would probably be after the water pipe broke, so it'd be harder to find a way to wash the paint off..."

Everybody raises up their arms. No black paint seems to be visible on anyone. "It was a good thought, missy. But the paint is pretty trivial to remove with the right method."

"It only means it wasn't Karega herself. And judging by how the power went off at the same time as the crack, maybe this was an intentional setup? She, or someone else, could have set 70-80 kgs of stuff on the stairs to gradually break it."
