The Donator seemed immeasurably disappointed that no-one looked impressed, and took off the sunglasses he'd apparently acquired. Perhaps he should have kept them on, though: he had quite severe bags under his eyes, which the glasses had incidentally masked. His nightmare in the cafeteria must not have been a simple one-off.

"At this point Deirdre's probably in a pretty good position anyway, going by how many people said they've donated or want to. Ryleigh's probably the one in more immediate danger at this point. "Not as high up there as ol' Donator over there, or any of those whiz detectives, but it's somethin'. I've gotta say, this place is pretty nice lookin' to boot! I could almost get used to living here for the rest of my life while trying not to murder my fellow captives in the process, it's great!"

He let out a bit of a laugh, which was a little unnerving considering what he just said. He seemed jovial enough though, despite the fact that he still hadn't made a successful sale to anybody yet.

"Sell? Why, I never said a word about sellin'!" Max objected. "Can't a guy appreciate his surroundings in peace without being questioned about it? Sheesh!"

He paused for a moment, his smile widening. "...Since ya mentioned it though, I do have somethin' for ya! You're a big chess fan, right? Well, how about this?" He reached out into his coat and pulled out a small looking chessboard. It looked old and seemed a bit degraded in some areas. "This is a high quality chessboard I got from Turkey! Boy, that was a trip n' a half. It was a little wet and kinda smelly when I first got it... But in a way, it works perfectly here! There's water here! Water, wet! Same thing! What a deal, right? And this can be yours for a whole fifty bucks!" He declared with enthusiasm. "Man, even I can't believe what a sale this is!", he added very joyously.

As Deirdre inspected some of the chess pieces, it suddenly became apparent that they were... not really that firm. One of the pawn pieces immediately had its head fall of the moment she picked it up. Of course, this meant that her comments from the previous post now retroactively made her look like a dumb, but it's her fault for speaking too soon #dumb. Oh yeah and the victim blaming doesn't end here either, sorry. Max gave a bit of a frown towards the woman. "Well, look what you've done! I've gotta say, you need to handle these with more care. Oh well! You break it, you buy it! Congrats", he said, handing her over the ugly chess set as well. "Now, I don't mind if you don't donate your fifty bucks to me from this game in particular considering you're nearly broke, so if you have any spare cash on hand that ain't part of the game, I'll take it!" He said happily.

There was silence for a second. Max's smile seemed very... ominous right about now. Was he about to crack?

Just as the atmosphere got too unbearably awkward to bear, he suddenly burst into a fit of laughter. "Oh, of course! Of course! I see how it is, Deedee! Sure, sure. Must be a hard time out there earnin', right? I know it is." He gave her a pat on the shoulder. "Worry not, palio! I ain't mad- especially not here, where you can easily make some of this back! I don't mind waitin', but you better make a donation to ol' Max with the remainin' 44 bucks and 74 cents when you make some bank! ...With 5 percent interest compounded daily, of course, since you'll be makin' me wait a bit", he added. "Enjoy your new set! I'm sure you'll have a fun time with it. Pleasure doin' business with you."

He turned around, hardly giving her any time to respond (though it was doubtful he'd even bother listening to her). He nodded contently to himself, putting his 5.76 dollars away. That was the biggest profit he'd made yet! Impressive.

After a day of doing pretty much nothing, the contestants all returned to their rooms to try and get some rest again.
