Bradley followed along, staying close to Ghost but still hanging his head slightly not happy with the decisions that had been made so far "It's...it's a shame but at least these decisions don't feel as severe as some of the trials...but I'm worried this is the timeline we'll be stuck with." He let out a breath he had been holding "At least these decisions don't kill anyone. Gotta remember we'll all get out of here at least. There's a positive to all this." He said trying to refocus himself.

He looked over at Emma "What are you doing with that Miss Null?"

"What's up, Emma?" Midge asks, looking in the empty pod.

"I thought we were gonna talk about, like the blight x outbreak or something."

Emma looked puzzled at Teddy. "I haven't talked about anything of that sort, have I?"

She then looked at Midge, sadness returning to her face. "No, a pod much like this one has already been used, 9 years ago. I put you in one myself back then, Clara."

She continues speaking before anyone can react. "Everything about you having died in an accident 9 years ago...it was a lie. In reality, I used on of the CDC's pods to freeze you - the you from this timeline - while I worked to set up this game, and faked her death to the rest of the world."

She looked down. "I had to do that for the sake of this game...I was always planning on releasing her once all of this was done, of course." She avoided looking directly at Midge.

Bradley tilted his head and looked at Ghost "That would mean, Miss Midge was stored here for a good long time while I was growing up here. You might know both of them then Ghost." He said before looking back at Emma.

"What do you mean you WERE planning on releasing her Miss Null?" Bradley asked quizzically "Where is the Midge of this timeline?"

"Hmph," Teddy shrugged, apparently apathetic to the revelation. "In the other two rooms you made us vote to screw someone over. I just didn't see why this room should be different."

Emma stared at Midge for some time, looking like she wanted to say something. After a while she sighed and turned to the others.

"You were all right in assuming this room would have a decision, too. This time, though, the choice is just up to Adriana to make."

She looks at her with a severe expression on her face. "One of the things I learned from the previous loops was about you. Specifically, that there's a copy of Mr. Tesla's memories within your data." She paused for a moment. "...you probably realize what this implies, right?"

Without waiting for her to respond, Emma walked over to the pod once again. "This pod is equipped with an EMP function. If you choose to go inside, you can use it to wipe your data. Your core software would be fine, and you could use your learning algorithm to become any kind of person you want to be once you wake up. Start from zero again."

After a brief, uncomfortable pause, she adds "Or you can choose to not do any of that and just carry on as you're now, with all your current data, including Mr. Tesla's memories. We can be done with this room once you choose what you're going to do."

Albert gives a sigh of relief, oddly satisfied that he isn't involved at all in the choice. "So it's, er, "Adriana's" choice to make, huh? To abandon who she is now or live on with her memories...it must be a pretty crappy choice for you to make, I guess. You have any advice for her, Helios?"

Adriana ran her fingers across the pod.

"This can... change me?" she asked. "How much? Is it limited to memories, or can I alter my personality with it as well?"

"Personality too. I do mean 'anyone', though it's up to everyone else in the room to play along with the idea." Emma said while being used by the GM temporarily for the clarification.

Helios sighed and looked away. "Well, I'll most likely be dead soon, so there's no reason I should factor into this decision. Just do whatever will make you happy, Adriana..."

Adriana drew in a breath and nodded. She then scribbled down lines in her notepad and handed it to Helios.

"...See that I get that when I wake up. Please." she said.

She then went back to the pod, and fiddled with the personality parameters, increasing ambition and independence. She She moved to decrease compassion... but then she decided against it, and returned it to its previous value. She then set the pod to wipe her memories.

Adrianna turned to Emma. "I've made my choice." she said, simply. She turned away from the others, and moved to get into the pod. Just before she did, she said one more thing.

"If... Fernando's smart about it, there'll be nothing you can do. But if he's dumb and his campaign directly releases the medical records, you could probably gain a few points by changing the conversation to patient's rights-- make privacy your new main talking point..."

"...I'm sorry the girl you loved died."

She then entered the pod.

The pod closed. It made some short sounds like a xerox machine, and then the process seemed to be over.

"Well...who is she gonna be?" Albert asked.

"I'm not sure." Helios said. "I didn't want to read her notebook, but at a glance it looks like she's at least making sure she's caught up with the details of who we are."

"Do you think she'll still know she's a...zombie thing?" Violet asked.

"I don't know." Ghost said. "I'm not sure if that's up to us to know anyway."

Emma opened the pod shortly after. Adriana swung her legs out and leaned against the side with labored effort. Helios handed her the notebook and she took it slowly and apprehensively. It almost seemed like she was a child lost in a supermarket from the way she was looking at everyone.

"What's...going on?"

"Should we stop staring?" Bradley asked everyone.

"It'll take some time for her to adjust." Emma explained. "Let her read her book over."

The group gave Adriana (if that was still her name) some space. Watchful, concerned eyes still flitted over to her once in a while.

"So Emma..." Ghost began. "You have Clara--from this time--in a pod somewhere?"

"Yes. It's at one of the CDC's lesser used sites."

"That's strange. Admittedly, I thought I could be her."

Midge cackled. "You thought you were me?"

"Well...I had a memory." Ghost looked at Emma. "Of me asking for your help. Is that right?"

Emma stared blankly at Ghost for some time. It seemed like she was about to say Ghost was mistaken. "That's right, Ghost. You're one of my employees at the CDC. You asked to help with this game, and I allowed you to." She looked at everyone else. "Her first task was kidnapping all of you."

"Haha! I knew it!" Bradley said brightly with a sudden burst of spirit before seeing the sombre faces in the room "O...oh nevermind...I just...nevermind" Bradkey said embarrassed by his outburst as he fell quiet.

Deciding to change the subject slightly "But I still don't get why you ran this game." He muttered before giving Emma a dark look "And if Ghost worked for you then you are probably the reason I couldn't go outside or know about my parents or...or...anything" he added angrily.

"I still don't know the reasons myself, but I trusted Emma and accepted that this game was the only way," Ghost said. "My memories tell me at least that much. In fact, I was fairly confident, 9 years ago, that my presence in the game would be enough to tip the scales in our favour after those 97 failed attempts without me."

"Wait...seriously?!", Albert cries. "You were the one who kidnapped us all along?! It was so fucking obvious from the beginning, and yet we forgot all about it... Dammit, Ghost. B-but still...who even are you? I don't recognise you... At least I don't think I do."

"I just got done saying I thought I might have been Clara. I don't know who I really am yet, Albert," Ghost said patiently. "Logically I don't think any of you have reason to know who I am, though, other than Emma and Bradley. I was a CDC employee, and spent much of my time living here with Bradley. I can't think of any connection I'd have with you all, other than through this game."

"Yes, but the you here right now doesn't know me... right? I'm not sure our paths crossed," Ghost explained. "Um, though... I guess that Morphogenetic Field thing makes things more complicated? I still don't really understand all that, honestly. I suppose there's a chance you know me, but, I'd only have been a random employee back then."

Emma didn’t say anything to Bradley at first. It seemed she was thinking deeply about something, and looked almost saddened.

“It was fourteen years ago. One of the CDC’s facilities was attacked by criminals and in the process, they released Blight-X. It was thankfully contained on-site, but the damage was done. Nine people died, including a man and his pregnant wife who was visiting him.”

She turned to face… Teddy. “I knew some of them. They were good people.”

Teddy looked unimpressed and rapped his fingers against his arm. “I’m sorry that happened to you. So… what? This is all revenge for something you think I’ve done?”

“I have no interest in revenge. I’m just letting you know how you’ve hurt me."

Emma got closer to Bradley, kneeling down. “We were able to save the child. He was contagious still, and it seemed he’d only be able to be kept alive through constant blood transfusions. So that was the plan. Keep him in a stable environment that nobody could get to, and that he couldn’t get out of.” She paused slightly. “…Mr. Tesla figured this out when he saw the video from the usb drive. He realized how disastrous it could be if that boy escaped.”

Ghost looked down at the ground, clearly feeling guilty. Emma spoke to her next regardless. “When I took over the project nine years ago, I felt that he’d need company in his situation. Humans are by nature social creatures after all. So when you offered to help, I accepted. We couldn’t figure out a cure, but still kept him alive as long as we could.”

Finally, her eyes returned to Bradley. “You’re right, Bradley. The CDC locked you up all those years. And when I took over the project 9 years ago, I allowed it to continue happening. I wanted you to live, but I couldn’t let you out into the world.” Her face turned grim. “But the person who killed your parents through an act of wanton murder, the person who infected you, and the person responsible for your predicament since birth… it was Mr. Bianchi. Not me.”

Bradley staggered back from Emma trying to process everything that had happened "N-no...I...you're lying! I was never sick...you...you were taking my blood...using me for study or something...it's not..." He fought back tears as he leaned on Ghost for support "...my parents..."

Swallowing hard Bradley was able to compose himself "So...so...why did you try and kill me when I tried to escape?" He asked anger creeping into his voice "The world is still out there right? We've had memories of escaping and everything being ok. Whatever happened when I broke out was contained so why did you decide to kill me?"

He looked away from Emma in disgust even more confused now "In fact, if you ordered me to be killed why did you then order Ghost to kidnap me?! That just doesn't make any sense." He glared at Emma "You are still hiding something, you...you...you and your CDC didn't care about me. Tell me the real reason you were keeping me there? What were all those tests for?"

"Bradley... all those years I spent with you, I never once left my hazmat suit. I couldn't, even if I wanted to, even if it meant you could never see me as I really was," Ghost said quietly, putting an arm around him. "I did that because I had no other choice. I'd have been infected otherwise."

"I don't know... but there must be a way, I'm sure of it!" Ghost replied, holding Bradley tighter. "I never gave up on you back then, and I won't now. And Emma... she's on your side too, even if it might not seem that way. The order for your termination, it didn't come from her. The President ordered her to do it, and even then she resisted."

"Hey, w... what the hell are you talking about?!" Teddy demanded, clearly shaken. "I didn't--At the beginning of the game, didn't you--or Null--or whoever--say Blight-X only lasts nine weeks? So why did he need to be locked up his entire life?! A-And... And does that mean we're all infected with that Blight too?!"

"Not yet...that was the purpose of all those tests. We were hoping we could find a cure."

Emma hesitated for a moment, before continuing. "And what Ghost says is right. The decision to terminate you came from the president. She thought you were too dangerous, after your escape attempt..." She looked down. "...after it resulted in the deaths of 14 people."

Bradley gritted his teeth and reached out and slapped Emma as hard as he could "Don't blame that on me! You never told me anything that was going on! Why would you do that?! You told me the world outside was destroyed! Of course I'd want to escape!" He shouted at her

"You...you should have just told me...your organisation brought this on yourself." He glared at Ghost "You blamed me too. Told me my actions had consequences." he moved away from both of them "I...I might have understood...why I had to live that way." he wrapped his arms around himself for comfort "I never felt sick...so...you must still be lying." he paused looking at the computer terminal where in another reality he had seen his parents for the first time "If people died because I wanted out there it's on you for forcing this situation and for not telling me...what I...what I was."

Emma listened quietly as Bradley spoke. “The circumstances of your illness were unusual. Different. As we gave you blood transfusions, the amount of Blight got asymptotically smaller. You needed transfusions less frequently, but the virus would never go away. You’d always be contagious.”

“What about the cures?” Midge asked. “The ones we have for Z.”

“Z can cancel out weaker strains of Blight.” Emma said. “But that’s only as long as he’s infected. If we cure him with a vaccine, he’ll only be cured by Z, and continue to be contagious.”

“Then...is there anything we can do?” Albert bit his lip. “We don't have vaccines for X, right? You’re making it sound pretty hopeless.”

Emma nodded. “I believe we can save Bradley. Save the future… all we need to do is open the nine door and start Violet’s trial.”

“Wait!” Teddy shouted. “What the fuck are you saying?! She’s not gonna be in any danger, right?”

Emma dodged the question. “I can’t tell you anything. But I promise you… I wouldn’t propose any of this if I didn’t feel it were the only way. And then... that'll be it. This will all be over.”

Bradley sulked still angry and bitter "Well if it's the only way out then we should just get this over with." He glared at Emma "I don't know what Miss Midge sees in you." He muttered before moving to leave the bio lab.

"Why do we have to do another trial?" Helios asked, "If you have all the vaccines we need and you've taken all these steps to prevent this awful future, then why can't you just give them to us?"

Assuming that Emma would just dodge the question, he looked away and added, "Well, all that stuff we just did would be useless if some of us died, so maybe this trial will be non-lethal anyway. Let's just get this over with." He turned to follow Bradley.
