"For the day swap, all we wanted to do was make sure everyone was on the same page in terms of whether we were using the 'original' or 'swapped day' plan. Especially considering... some of the players..." Astrid's eyes drifted towards the entrance to the parlor, where Hazel was presumably still napping where they had left her.

She then turned towards Max. "This isn't about being a sore loser. This is about trust."

Maximillions eyes widened with excitement as he crouched and pointed at Azazel “That’s right! Exactly! This isn’t a game about trust! It’s a competition! We are not all on jolly cooperation and so it is absolutely wise to prevent a particularly prudent and high-performing player from proceeding too far!” He insisted nearly hopping up and down in his joy.

“BUT!” He straightened up and pointed a finger up “That is no reason to hate one another. As we committed to in the first game, this is merely a game and the decisions behind it bear no hard feelings. Lingering on your lamentable losses is a lacklustre use of your time.” Maximillion smiled bashfully and shrugged and began to stride towards the parlour himself “So I suggest you all relax, put the vendettas behind yourselves for now and make friends! If this competition is as glorious as advertised, we are all in for a lot more fun together.”

"This game, this competition, is my one shot at making things right after I'd all but given up," The Emissary said sombrely. "I wouldn't have even signed up otherwise. I'm not here for fun and games like you are. So, you'll have to forgive me for taking this loss harder than you did in the zeroth round."

“Exactly. Some of us have a grim outlook ahead of us if we lose. Not asking for pity checks but I’m not exactly gonna be buddy-buddy with him after this.”

He sighed heavily. “Could someone in the poor country at least tell us whose idea it was to swap the days? Pink never gave us an answer, now I wonder if that was intentional.”

“Oh, this game is just so exciting!” Vivienne exclaimed, raising her gloved hands emphatically. “I haven’t had this much fun in a long time! Seeing the accusations start flying like this made me a little giddy, I must admit. This game is the perfect break from my dreary life.”

“In any case, I believe the masked fellow over there may have made a mistake in his calculations. I didn’t lose a single dollar of what I was promised,” the woman added with a shrug. “Which makes me even more uncertain how Mr. Lauder pulled ahead. I still agree with him though; I’d love to get to know everyone a little more before we jumped into the next round!”

"You were promised $50,000. To beat that, Maximillion would have needed $60,000. That's 5 day 2 apples in total, when the results clearly state 4. The numbers don't lie," The Emissary said. "What you are claiming is impossible. Perhaps Maximillion offered donations to compensate, but at that point why not just go for the shared victory? And he can only donate to one player per round in any case."

"Well, there is just one more thing if we're introducing ourselves." He started, blushing slightly. "I already told the rich country this, but Azazel was just some corny joke. Just call me Luka."

The Emissary shot Luka a look. Unfortunately with the mask and all no-one could really tell. "I suppose further discussion on the previous round won't lead us anywhere. No-one in the poor country has much incentive to explain what happened. So maybe we really should move onto more... pleasant topics. It is a shame Pink isn't here to join us, though."

As the others continued discussing, they heard the sound of someone getting woken up suddenly. It seemed to be coming from the yellow room. A good few minutes later, they heard the sound of someone approaching them, quite slowly, along with something else thumping the ground lightly. Soon, they were able to see who it was.

An old, haggard lady stood in front of them now. There was a tired look in her eyes, and she didn't appear to be entirely well. Her hair was a brown-ish yellow sort of colour, yet her face looked much older than that, almost speaking for the long, eventful life she had undergone. Her clothes were old fashioned and on her left hand, the index finger (strangely enough), was a ring. There was a green stone embedded into it. It shone with power and beauty, yet there was also something unnerving about its appearance. Finally, the old woman held a cane in her hand which she walked with for support. She seemed bent over holding it as she looked at the others.

"I... seem to have missed much." She spoke quietly, but her voice carried an air of politeness with it, along with dignity. "My apologies. I needed... some rest. It appears that... the introductions have been made already, so... I shall add onto that."

Despite how weak she looked, she held her head up almost proudly. "My name is Hazel- Hazel Hawthorne. You may all recall me from earlier, for... I was Yellow." She explained patiently. "It is... a pleasure to finally come face to face with you all."

Now that the introductions were over with, she turned towards those from her group inquisitively, raising her head up slightly. It seemed as though she wished to know what had taken place already, and what they had uncovered about the 'traitor'.

Teleporting Appearing behind Emissary Maximillion clapped a hand on his shoulder "Now you're getting it my purest, pale, porcelain pal!" he laughed as he walked past him, his other hand wielding a freshly-poured champagne flute.

He paused by Hazel and offered a deep courteous bow, his tone sincere and soft "Truly Madame, the pleasure is all mine, I hope I have not offended you too much with my manipulations earlier and that we may enjoy the rest of this evening as friends and competitors. As for the events of the game, I shall aid you in this summary. There was a traitor who voted wrong in the first day and I won in the second game through a strategy I am not going to divulge." he raised his glass to Hazel "I hope you enjoy yourself" he said said before continuing his path across the room where he stood rather arbitrarily with the "poor country".

"Now onto more interesting matters, I do hope our mysterious Miss Pink is able to join us soon." A slightly concerned look taking over his face but he shook his head "But for now I am so deathly curious as to the purpose and reason for that mask Mister Emissary" he said pointing at the mask.

Hazel gaped a bit at Maximillion as he introduced himself. She didn't even seem to be paying attention to what he was saying, but stared at him emptily. After he had finished with his spiel, she paused as if thinking something through. She then turned to him with a strange expression. "...Excuse me. Have I seen you before?" Her question was short and to the point, and she paused once more after inquiring, waiting for Max to respond.

Maximillion sipped from his glass and gave Hazel a warm smile "Most possibly Madame! You have many years of wisdom on me and thus the advantage but alas I do not recognise your radiant and regal self." He said with a hint of wistful disappointment. "I would be most pleased to remedy that however! Please, Madame Hazel, enlighten me with some of your knowledge for I would not think a lady of your experience so keen on these cutting edge games."

Hearing the Emissary's explanation, Maximillion nodded "I see...crippling shyness then, is that why you hide your name as well then? My poor soul, it must be so hard to be in this room with all of us much less play social games of this caliber with such a severe affliction." he lamented, a sorrowful expression on his face.

"Oh, well... never mind then." Hazel sighed, somewhat anticlimactically. "Please forgive this foolish old woman. My memory must clearly be getting muddled again... I must have thought you looked like my grandson. ...Or was it great-grandson? Dear me... I can't remember now. "She shook her head in disappointment. "As for why I am here? Money does not interest me as much. I simply got the invitation letter sometime back, and thought it sounded quite nice. I decided to... participate so that I could get out of the house. ...My goodness, I hope he's alright without me." Her thoughts had turned to other things entirely, and her attention had been diverted again.

Thankfully, she snapped back to reality again. "Ah, yes... Maximillion, was it? Tell me again... what is it that you do? I don't quite recall now what it was..."

Maximillion snapped to attention, "Why Madame Hazel I would be eager to enlighten you as to my enticing and exciting career." Maximillion threw his arms out with grandeur "For I, am Maximillion Lauder, professional gamer and head of Wonderland Games!" he cried out to the heavens.

"So naturally, when I received my invitation I couldn't help but answer the call to this new and exciting format. Being here is as much research as it is pleasure for me!" He chuckled clearly quite pleased with himself.

"... Well, while these two catch up, I actually have a question for the rich country." Ember said, turning to look at the filthy bourgeoisie. "Did you find anything strange in your room? Anything that was weirdly personal or just odd?"

Luka frowned at Ember’s question. “Yeah, we did. Kinda personal but...”

He looked at Hazel, then everyone else. “Look, I don’t want to be that asshole but it’s very obviously a bad idea for her to be here. She’s old as shit, doesn’t need the money, and Zero is a real prick. He’s targeting us, gave her a mental breakdown and everything. It’s bad for her health to continue.”

"Ember, you asked what I myself planned to," The Emissary said with a bow. "Let's get right into it, then. It's as Luka said. We, too, found information that seemed... excessively personal, like we were being targeted. Why, the very invitation I received for this game in the first place was the same.

"Regarding information we found, there was a mention of 999 Castle Lane. The room itself was... well, I'll let someone else speak on that. The Morse code spelled out 'Naught' as I'm sure you're all aware: an actor of some repute. And then there was the newspaper article we found in a safe. Let me read it for you all:

"Huge delay in the Fox Harbor Dam project, Stuns Citizens

The Fox Harbor Dam has been seriously delayed due to last-minute structural changes from the contracted company working on the dam, Emerald Technology Solutions. When asked for comment, the CEO simply said that an unforeseen circumstance put the company behind schedule.

This delay is going to cause enormous costs for the city. The project has been finalized for a long time, and nobody associated with the project, aside from a small number of engineers, know what exactly the issue was or how in the world this snap decision occurred."

"Off the top of my head, that's everything with meaning we found."

"HA! I like this one!" Maximillion laughed pointing at Lukas "Always ready to seize the advantage! So sharp!"

He chuckled slightly as he returned to a more relaxed posture "But Madame Hazel, as the name suggests a gamer is merely one who plays games. As you should know participating here, there is a lot of money to be made in the industry these days. This tournament is actually rather exceptional in it's rewards from my experience." He lowered his glass slightly "Though Lukas, your words do concern me. Did you really suffer a mental breakdown in coming here Madam Hazel?" He gasped, raising his hand to his face in horror. "I must say, despite the initial draw of this tournament, it has proven to be questionable on an ethical level..."

Reaching into the pocket of his suit, Maximillion produced a glittering and beautifully crafted knife "For example, I found this in one of the cushions within our room. Clearly this venue is not up to OSHA regulations."

"A mental breakdown?" Ember glanced at Hazel, who looked... More or less normal to her. "Aside from that knife, we found some movies from Vivienne's sister. Speaking of Naught, in one of them, Embers to Ashes, he was replaced by... Some guy I still can't remember."

"And also, this creepy thing." she pulled a newspaper clipping from her pocket.

"Two Local Teens Go Missing

Today, two teens attending Fox Harbor High School have been declared missing neither one has been seen in days. The only clue to their whereabouts is a car which was found crashed at the bottom of a cliff on the west side of town. The car belonged to the parents of..."

"What?" Hazel seemed caught off-guard by Luka's suggestion. She immediately recovered though, and tried to straighten herself up to the best of her ability. "No, I will not be leaving this game. I... I shall continue with the rest of you." Her tone seemed unusually firm, but she stood her ground regardless. "I am not going to be compelled to quit so easily. “Could these be clues for more money? Or more targeted information?” He looked over Ember’s shoulder at the clipping. “I didn’t hear about any dumbasses from my high school going missing. Maybe this is someone’s kids?”

He then looked at Hazel and shrugged. “Fine.”

"I'm not sure how this could be a clue for money..." Ember neatly folded and pocketed the paper again. "And can we talk about the movie? Because it's still bothering me. It couldn't be a reshoot, so they must have gotten their hands on some early version or just put that much effort into editing. But why would they even want a version without Wesley Naught? It's pointless..."

"Is the movie still playing? Perhaps there would be value in having everyone see it? Not the full thing, of course, just bits and pieces," The Emissary proposed.

He then turned to Hazel. "Additionally, ma'am, are you comfortable with us talking about everything else we found in the parlour?"

"We actually changed it to Falling from the Nest before leaving, which is a much better movie by the way, especially since that Embers to Ashes lacks the one redeeming quality of the original, but I guess we can go back and watch it." Ember said, looking rather unenthusiastic about it.

"I also feel like I should mention the third movie in there was The Emissary. Say, Emissary, are you... An Iris DuGrande fan?"

Her expression is unreadable, but she seems to be bracing herself for the answer.

"Oh. Why yes, I am," The Emissary nodded. "It really is a tragedy, what happened to her... The Emissary was Iris at her brightest, most radiant. A movie about a woman bringing hope to others; I believed that taking on the title would give me the will to compete in this game.

"Let me ask you something: by the sounds of it, Naught wasn't edited out of Falling from the Nest? But he was from Embers to Ashes? How strange."

"Hm yes, we found a newspaper article relating to the late Iris DuGrande as well. I suppose you were a fan of her work Mr Emissary to be so inspired by her efforts?" Maximillion asked as he examined the knife idly.

"By the by, do any of you recognise the writing written on this blade perchance?" he said spinning the knife to show the hilt. "It was one mystery we could not solve, but since these riddles seem to be custom-made to our personal tastes there's the possibility this has some meaning for you."

“The Emissary...” Vivienne mumbled, pulling the brim of her hat low over her eyes. “I wouldn’t call it a cinematic masterpiece, but that movie is quite special to me. I get a little emotional just thinking about it...”

She turned away from the others and glanced into the theatre, perhaps looking to see what Brown was doing.
