"So... John, are you saying Momo was not a super hero? He may not have shown any super powers, and even if he was more of a vigilante... and even if he was a pansy, his heart was in the right place. Even in death, he wanted to keep his promise to Sachiko... which he unfortunately, could not do. He tried, oh he tried. And is that not all that matters? You know... I respect Momo more now. He had no powers, he was only a superhero in heart. And that is all that matters."

She turned her back to him.

Lyla's expression darkens a little. "I'm afraid being something at heart and then lying about what you are isn't exactly something to be proud of. If he had no powers, then maybe he wasn't an 'Ultimate Superhero' at all. It just goes to show how much of everybody we know, really. As for Dale and Claudius... people are lying about themselves left and right, and yet we still want to respect those who killed for their own gain? I don't understand it. I really don't."

"Momo framed some people, Claudius killed thousands... yeah, those are fucked up. But then, even the most fucked up people, showed some mercy, some light right at the end. I agree, Claudius should probably not be allowed to walk free after killing so many, as Momo should free those he wrongfully convicted. So the best we can do now... trust, be open with one another..."

Svetlana looks Lyla straight in the eye.

"Lyla... girl, you seem to be taking the guilty until proven innocent approach, to never trust anyone. Is it worth it do you think? Living 100 years never trusting, never loving, always living in paranoia, or living 20 with people you truly care about and will give your life up for. The guilty party was dead before the trial, we could trust everyone alive in this court room, and that is how we made it through. We were all sent here by someone we got mad, yes? So that includes you. Tell me, are you able to trust yourself?

I have no family to go back to now. Too long has passed, and if they are still alive, they are under the care of the village. Oh they must hate me for not sending them a word for so long... but I can not exchange the life of another for this. I know... that as important as my family is to me, the same is for everyone in this room. You have people who care about you Lyla, even Akio must have people who would cry if he died. As much as I yearn to return to my country, to my family, I can not do it at the cost of causing the same pain to another..."

"You said it yourself why you shouldn't trust everybody. How do you know you can trust everyone in this room? What gives you undeniable proof that everybody here is trustworthy? Is it nothing more than a 'gut feeling' that you get from only God knows where?"

Lyla pauses for a bit. "I thought so. I'm not killing anyone because I don't want to stoop down to the level of those who have killed. But all that this game has showed me, is that if you trust someone, they'll inevitably stab you in the back. You've seen the proof yourself. And don't you tell me it's not true-- that'd be lying to yourself. You have people you want to go back to, yeah? And don't you think that perhaps, just maybe, your blind trust of everyone would get in the way of that goal? What if the people you so blindly trust end up murdering you? Just like everyone who's killed so far. We trusted Dale, we trusted Penelope, and look what happened. Yet, you keep going on about this inane concept of blind trust."

"I only want to make it out alive, just like the rest of you. But I won't die because of your same mistakes."

"And that's just the thing. The only way we can make it out alive, is by working together. It is easy to hate and distrust everyone, but it takes true strength to believe in everyone when you know they can easily stab you in the back, ya? We can not solve these trials by ourselves, we must work together. We must band together to overcome whatever Monokuma tries to throw our way."

"How will your trust prevent you from being murdered, exactly? And if you trust everyone, then it'll only make it easier for them to murder you. I don't get what you're trying to say, because it's an inane concept."

"Because... that is exactly what Monokuma wants." Shirly goes over and clasps Lyla's hands in hers. "If you have to murder someone to win, then that is not a condition I want. The only way to win, is by uniting."

She leans forward to Lyla, coming dangerously close to kissing her.

"Even you, even you want to see Monokuma's end, do you not?"

"Look, Momo might've been a hack, and Dale might've been one too, and... Claud wasn't no saint, and that's putting it pretty lightly. But here, you know, y'all are just who I know you as! You ain't anything else, and I've made some good friends thinking that way."

"Lady Cahill, if I may interject?" Kagayaki stepped forward. "Though I appreciate your attempts to diffuse the situation, I feel threats will only cause further agitation."

She faced Lyla and bowed her head. "Lady Everell, I will not tell you to simply trust the rest of us; I have no right to demand that of you and cannot fault you for being wary of people you barely know. I am also in no way condoning Lord Valler and the others' past misdeeds. However, I do wish to say that while they have done terrible things, they have done good ones as well. No person is infallible, yet no person is beyond changing for the better, either.

"...This is what I believe, in any case. I do hope you will at least consider my words before presuming the worst of us, and remember who the truly evil ones are here," she finished with a glance in Monokuma's direction.

“Alright, let’s wrap this up.” Monokuma decided. “I’ve prepared a very special punishment!”

“W-Wait!” Lyla shouted. “You said nobody was gonna die!”

“Let’s go! IIIIIIIIIIT’S PUNISHMENT TIME!”
Spoiler: 7:40 AM
Some static displayed on the flat screen above everyone, and then some video footage.

Pfft! A gunshot, feathers falling to the ground like snow. Claudius stumbled backwards and landed on his back.

Dale was holding the gun straight, eyes down the sight. His hands were steady. “Phew…” He said to himself. “At least it was quick...”

“Hmph.” A hearty laugh filled the room as Claudius rose to his feet. “You think a bullet is enough to defeat a Vulcan?” He unsheathed his sword and dashed towards Dale, who quickly stepped to the side.

Despite the situation, both boys found themselves smiling. “So that’s how this’ll go, then? A fight to the death? Bring it on, you crazy flippin’ ruler!”

As the two struggled, Dale got the better of him, hurling him over and attempting to pin him. He struggled for the gun.

“Nay, knave!” shouted Claudius. “You shant deprive my people of me!”

The two traded blows, Dale taking care to avoid the sword the entire time. Frighteningly despite the gunshot, Claudius consistently kept up. Dale parried the sword with the lead pipe and the two pushed against each other.

“I have to admit, I’m impressed.” Claudius grinned. “It’s been too long since I’ve felt the thrill of my life on the line!”

“I need this! I can’t stay in here while she’s out there!” Dale shouted.

“As if I’ll allow myself to get killed by the likes of you!”

Claudius pressed his shoulder towards Dale, barely piercing him with a spike on his armor. Dale lost some footing and Claudius used that moment to his advantage, stabbing Dale in the stomach just as Dale stepped back to dodge.

“Hnrk.” Dale stepped back, unsteady on his feet. Claudius had lost some balance as the sword came loose, and Dale used that opportunity. He swung the pipe at Claudius’ helmet, knocking him back into the bookcase. It toppled over, pinning him down.

“...it’s over.” Dale said.

Claudius refused to accept it, and tried to lift the bookcase up. “I-It’s not over for me yet! For you, your suffering has just begun!”

“...I wish things could’ve turned out differently.”

It seemed Claudius’ wounds were finally getting to him, and he was gradually losing his strength. "Heh, that I would fall here...I couldn't even...make it...across the ocean..."

Dale winced and got on his knees, raising the revolver above his head. The video feed zoomed in on Dale’s face. The class did nothing but watch as he swung it down twice in quick succession. Blood splattered and a cold feeling washed over.

The timestamp on the video changed. Just after 8 AM.

Dale was lumbering around the study like a zombie. He was smashing himself against the walls, letting himself get pierced by the glass on the floor. His movements were getting increasingly lethargic, and eventually he just slouched against the wall, legs spread on the floor.

He clutched his stab wound, pain increasing by the second. His eyes filled with realization, fear, then pure rage. He smashed his head against the wall behind him out of frustration multiple times.

Then...his eyes filled with nothing but regret. It was the face of a man who knew he had just killed for nothing. That he was about to die for nothing. That he had failed those who were counting on him.

He grit his teeth. It almost looked like he was about to curse.

But he didn’t. He just took a deep breath, then closed his eyes.

Spoiler: Post Execution
The group stood in stunned silence for some time, before finally gathering themselves to go.

"WELL, YOU ALL CAN LEAVE WHENEVER YOU'RE READY."

"Wait!" Casey yelled. "I just need to get one thing!"

The group gathered in the courtyard, waiting for Casey. She showed up sweating, dragging the pool table and the equipment behind her.

"Will you hurry up?!" Molly yelled. "A minute's still a long time, y'know?!"

"You really brought the pool table?" Sachiko asked.

"Hell yeah I brought the pool table! Let's go!"

There was a flash of light and soon the students found themselves back on the shore, the opened board game in front of them. They looked around the island. Vegetation had grown a lot everywhere, and a lot of the rooms inside were dusty. It seemed that a considerable amount of time had passed.

"I-It's over at least." Anissa sighed.

"Augh..."

Everybody turned towards the voice--S. He was grabbing his head.

"Yo, S!" Casey asked. "You alright?"

"I...I think I remembered something."

"Really?" Silas asked. "Spit it out, man."

It was clear S was shaking underneath the suit. "...what have I done here?"

"What do you mean?"

"How have I helped all of you? What have I done since coming here? I killed Momo...no, all three of them are dead because of me. I'm the one who alerted you all about Anissa."

"That kind of talk doesn't serve anyone." Kagayaki's voice was stern.

"I...I fear I may be too late already." S quivered.

"C-Can you stop talking all mysterious?!" Anissa yelled. "What are you saying?"

"...............I'm sorry. It seems I've already forgotten what it was. Let's just...forget about it."

It was the next day. The trial was like a bad memory, but the pain of what happened still hung over everyone's heads. Still, after being trapped in the game for so long, there was some optimism in the air.

It seemed some people had already started to arrive in the cafeteria.

"Hell yeah man, what's that I smell cooking!?"

Casey confidently cheers as she enters the cafeteria, carrying her bat. It had been less than a week since she held it, but it had all seemed like far too agonizingly long. As she notices the empty kitchen her expression dips and there's a moment of extreme loneliness on it.

"Oh I guess it's me who's cooking! No problem, no problem. I ain't a dumbass. I know how to cook, anyway!"

Anissa walks into the cafeteria, looking exhausted. She glances in the general direction of Casey and the kitchen, and she quietly sighs. Then she walks over to the nearest table, sits down, and immediately collapses forward onto the table.

Silas, who was sitting off in the corner, rips off a piece of paper from his sketchbook and tosses it behind him, adding to the small pile of crumpled papers. There were dark bags under his eyes. It doesn't look like he slept that night.

As the other students entered the classroom, he quickly stood up and gave a little wave, before digging through the pile of paper he's trashed, quickly glancing over each one.

Akio walked into the cafeteria, yawning. He seemed to have regained his confidence from earlier, optimistic. He noticed the tired Anissa and Silas.

Sachiko came into the cafeteria as well. She looked drained beyond her limits, after having to deal with two days without her medication.

"Oh, good morning e-everyone...." She took a seat at the table and rested her head on it. And yes, she was still wearing Dale's jacket on her shoulders.

"Back in that.. Terrible mansion, everyone shared things about themselves before three of us died. I couldn't quite find the right words for it, so I didn't really do anything, even though it was my idea...

I spent all night trying to come up with something to say, and it didn't really go too well.." Silas chuckles awkwardly.

"Here goes, I guess. I'd feel bad keeping this from any of you guys any longer.

I grew up in an orphanage with a bunch of other little kids back home in France. I was one of the older kids, so I'd be taking care of the younger ones all the time. I'm not gonna say life was good or anything, but I was pretty damn happy. It was a family, y'know? That's all I could've asked for back then. All the people back there were too nice for their own good. It was a small community, but that made things better. Everyone knew each other, for the most part. It wasn't strange to have well cooked meals from some of the more generous adults when we got sick of the food at the orphanage. No one really adopted, but, well, it felt like I was already in a large family."

Silas goes quiet for a brief moment, his gaze avoiding all the other students. "...After a while, one thing lead to another, and I was a young teen off on my own in the world. Kinda exciting, really. It's not all fun and games out there, as I'm sure you can all tell. I had to make money somehow, to live and eat, so I started to draw. I got better and better at it, until some people wanted to buy them! Ridiculous, right? Nothing I draw is even in colour. Yet people went crazy. Of course, this wasn't always enough money, so I'd do some work here and there, but it was mostly to help others out.

So.. Over time, I went from place to place, drawing what I could see and making small talk with some people out there. Not really staying in one place for too long. Met lots of pretty faces though."

Eventually, Silas looks back up at everyone else. "That's it, I guess. Not much else to me. Glad to finally get that out there, though. We've all been through a lot together."

Akio sat down with his smoothie, placing his feet on the table.

"Shit. Why the hell do you guys all have such sad childhoods?" Akio took sip out of his smoothie before yawning. "I mean...it's nice and all, but the outside world doesn't really matter anymore to me...though I guess a good backstory can grow a harem, eh Silas?"

"We have indeed, Lord Belrose," Kagayaki smiled kindly; she'd entered the cafeteria at about the time Silas began telling his story. She appeared far more rested this morning than in all the time she had spent at the mansion. After Silas finished, she bowed and walked to the stove, set a pot of water on it, then fetched some seaweed and vegetables from the fridge as the water boiled.

"Good morning, Sachi. I hope you have a good one today!"

Casey mixes up pancake batter and begins frying as she listens to Silas's story.

"Damn dude. You never told me you were an orphan. I guess it figures, though."

"Anyway, it's a nice story, Silas. It's pretty beautiful and elegant, thanks."

"Aw dammit dude, can't you just enjoy it!? Sometimes it's nice to just listen to people. We're stuck here with some of the most incredible people in the world, there's so much knowledge between us to pull from. Don't make fun of him, man. It's such a nice thing, hearing him tell that."

Silas rolls his eyes. "That's clearly not working, eh?" He laughs and takes a seat back at a table.

"No need to get so worked up, Casey. A lot has happened, I can see where he's coming from. Your words are more than enough. Thank you, I mean it."

"The 'most incredible people from around the world?' Hah, I do like the sound of that," Molly chimes in, arriving a fair bit late to the gathering. She quickly settles in with the group and offers them a slight smile.

"Don't mind me, please continue. I'm... mostly here for the food."

Once her concoction had finished cooking, Kagayaki ladled it into several bowls and, without a word, cheerily carried a serving of the miso and mushroom soup to each person in the cafeteria.

"I didn't make fun of him!" Akio snapped back at Casey. "What did I say..? I listened! He...uh...poor kid! Like Precious!"

"Hell yeah, man. We're the champs, Molly. Don't forget it."

Casey shrinks a little as she realizes Kagayaki made enough soup for everyone.

"Oh dammit. I guess she couldn't eat this anyway." She mutters, and she stacks up all her flapjacks for herself to eat, taking a seat in the far corner of the room, trying not to bring attention to herself.

"Naw, Akio, I guess you were joking or whatever. Don't worry about it. I'm being the hardass. Just enjoy the stories however you wanna enjoy them."

Silas gives Kagayaki a bright smile and thanks her. "This looks really damn impressive."

"And I'll have to agree with that incredible bit. All of you guys are pretty damn amazing."
