Adriana raised an eyebrow. "You didn't? It was on my CV-- I'm conversational-fluent in eleven languages, and know some phrases and such of a dozen others. You'd be surprised with how much it helps in dealing with donors."

"...Not to mention that it might be very helpful if I ever wanted to make my own run for political office." she added.

She turned to Midge. "Also, 'La Cosa Nostra' might be right-- good job! But what does the Sicilian Mafia have to do with this? Also... it sounded like you muttered something just now that I didn't quite catch."

"Well, yeah, I can't keep track of all the languages you know. I guess I should just assume you know basically everything by now."

"Also, I just had a random thought," Helios said, changing the subject with little dexterity. "The door to the Russian Roulette room...it had 'The Investigator' written on it, right? But that didn't seem to have anything to do with what was inside. You think that's actually meant to refer to Mr. Blaketon?"

He turned towards Albert. "Might also have something to do with that headset he had, right? I wonder when he's planning on explaining himself..."

"Well, I mean... Null did say that it was Albert's trial, specifically... I assumed he was an investigator or something, and that's why the door was labelled that way, and that it was 'Albert's trial'." Adriana replied. "I don't really know how to interpret that Russian Roulette was in Albert's trial, though. I wonder if Albert can shed any light on it."

“…Null has a fucked up sense of humour”, Albert replies quietly, his hand clutching his hair even more. “Ignore that bitch. We need… to get… more vaccines…RRRRGH!”

He suddenly writhes in pain, his hand covering his face in agony.

…And he looks up again. This time, the usual fearful expression on his face has returned. He looks at the others with terror.

“O-oh, shit… What happened now…? I-I…” He slowly backs away from the players again.

Midge makes a bemused expression at Adriana hearing her whisper.

"I was just saying that maybe we're in Monaco. I was there once a very long time ago. It kind of reminded me of this, but... it's not like there's any evidence that I'm right or anything."

Seeing Albert coming back to his senses, Midge chuckles, "oh so you weren't acting like a freak on purpose? That's good, at least you're sometimes a little less useless."

"This experience reminds you of something? That's... uh..." it wasn't often that Adriana found herself speechless. "I thought my life was pretty interesting, but this experience has got to be one-of-a-kind to me, so you must've had a much crazier childhood than me..."

"Come to think of it, what about this experience reminds you of your time in Monaco? It's not such a big country, and it's pretty densely-populated (not to mention that I speak both French and Italian) so if we do escape into it, there's pretty good odds that we'll be able to find help." she continued.

Bradley clapped his hands together excitedly and was on the verge of running off to get a book when Albert spasmed in pain.

"Um...Mr Albert are you alright?" He asked "I-is the infection starting to hurt you?"

"This isn't the time to be hiding stuff, you know," Helios shouted, "Be honest: other people have had 'shared fever dreams' before haven't they? Besides, wearing a lab coat is hardly out of place for someone who deals in forensics!"

“La Cosa Nostra?” Bradley asked.

“You know? ‘This thing of ours’.” Adriana motioned with her hand. “‘Our thing’?”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Teddy rolled his eyes.

“Nevermind. Let’s just look for books about the Sicilian Mafia.”

After narrowing down their search, and going through a lot of mafia-related books, they eventually pulled on a lucky one. A mechanical whir pushed the bookcase away from the wall, revealing a room behind.

Everybody looked at each other warily, but the symptoms they were feeling at this point gave them no sense of hesitation. Everybody stepped inside.

Inside was…a dining room. The table was long, seating far more than nine people. There was no silverware on the table, but there were plates, a tablecloth, and even lit candles. A large fireplace was on the side wall. The room had a strange ambience to it but it was almost comforting.

Most importantly, the plates had food on them.

“Null...” Albert swallowed. “Is the food safe?”

“Yes.”

“H-Huh?” Violet stammered. “A straight answer. There’s no tricks attached?”

“No. Please enjoy. But I recommend you eat before the trial, and not during.”

There was a wide variety of food, even vegetarian options. The end of the table didn’t have a plate, however. It just had a cutout in the tablecloth with a keyhole underneath. Above the keyhole was an inscription:

THE CHALLENGER

In response to Adriana, Midge just shrugs. "It's not that similar. When I went to Monaco it was very beautiful and extravagant like this. That's all. I'm still trying to figure out if it's really the same place."

She scans the food cautiously, before picking up a roll and biting into it.

"I hate being experimented on like this. It's so awkward."

"Ghost, aren't you hungry? Do you think you're really human? Can you feel yourself breathing and all that?"

Violet examined the table, grimacing. "We're expected to eat without any silverware? You can't even eat half this stuff with your fingers without looking like a hobo!" Despite this, she took a roll and began eating anyways.

"I'm pretty hungry, yeah..." Ghost replied, seemingly staring at the food on the table. "I've gone quite a while without food now, since waking up. Definitely breathing, too. I'm probably human, don't worry!"

"Well that doesn't really mean you're human though," Midge chuckles. "You could just be a homunculus or something. Maybe you don't have memories because you were created in a lab somewhere, sculpted out of some organic material. Maybe you're just in the suit so you won't realize that you're immune to disease."

She takes another bite of the roll.

"That's horrible!" Ghost exclaimed, taking a step away from Midge. "First you volunteer me for the trial, now this... I'm a captive like the rest of you all! Even if I don't have memories, even if you can't see my face, I'm still a person!"

With that, Ghost stormed out of the dining room, presumably wanting to be alone.

"Oh!" Midge covers her mouth with both hands, watching as Ghost hurries out.

"Well, I've spent many sleepless nights huddled on the pavement, wondering if I've been replaced with a homunculus in my sleep. There's no shame in fearing it. I figured they'd be able to relate to that, but I guess not."

"Though maybe I should go talk to them if this keeps up," she says, a little uneasy.

"Y-you bitch!", Albert exclaims, seemingly worked up by what just occurred. "G-Ghost could've switched with me earlier to save his own ass, but he took the risk of shooting himself? Why? Because he fucking cares about us! What gives you the right to treat him like some goddamn animal?! Y-you know what, maybe I should check on him. Go away."

He goes after Ghost after finishing his part.

Bradley is slightly stunned by the sudden outburst as Ghost and Albert stalk out of the room. Clearly not sharing Violet's reservations about eating with his hands, he shoves a last bit of food down his already messy mouth and hops down from the table to go over to Midge.

"Don't worry Miss...I think they are both bad men pretending to be good" he gave Midge a reassuring pat on the arm "Though maybe for that reason I should keep an eye on them?" He suggested before not-so-subtly tip-toeing after Albert as stealthily as he could manage.

Helios had been eating food the whole time, not really paying much attention the whole time. "Ah, this stuff is excellent! Though don't get me wrong, most of the stuff I've had at government banquets has been better, but it's an excellent effort, all things considered."

Helios glanced at the exit. "Are we sure it's a good idea to just let them leave like that? I mean, friendly or not, they are the most suspicious people here..."

"W-whatever, kid. It's none of your business anyway. Get outta my way."

Albert suddenly returns to the dining room without giving Bradley a second chance. "W-well, at least Ghost isn't too hurt by what you said now", he murmurs to Midge, still angry at her. "B-but watch it in the future. He's meditating now to attain his inner peace, so don't disturb him, okay? H-he really, truly loves us and wants us out as much as everyone else, so he's a good guy a-as far as I'm concerned." He makes his way to the table again and starts munching on some conveniently placed ice cream.
