No. Metro: Last Light had sexualization of women because it was an obligatory part to go through, the strip club and the scene of Anna suddenly wanting to get laid by you, that's sexualization of a woman. Light is merely being dressed in clothes - it's like the bikini chainmail in other games, it's fanservicy, but at least it serves SOME purpose as armor.

W-what?

You are now trying to argue that bikini chainmail is not oversexualisation of a character and that it actually serves as effective armour.

I don't care about Metro: Last Light I don't know anything about the sexualisation in it, it's not the topic of discussion. It's about if Lightning was oversexualised, bikini chainmail is like....the PRIME example of oversexualisaton as it's blatantly impractical and sacrifices any kind of use in favour of fanservice and sex appeal.

There's no argument here left to have, you admitted yourself its fanservicey and that's exactly the point.

The point of that outfit is the oversexualization of Lightening which is what Cat and Pierre are arguing about.

Well if the stats were negative, then at least it could be interpreted as criticizing it's own oversexualization of Light by discouraging players from using fanservicey outfits that would make no sense for Light's character to wear at all.

I'm reminded of an amusing anecdote I once heard about how a game master dealt with this kind of thing (probably false, but I'd love it if it turned out this actually happened). One of the players wanted his female character to wear very revealing armor. The GM asked for a detailed description of the armor and then determined what percentage of the body it covered (about 10%). He then told the player that the armor would be allowed, but every time his character is hit, he has to roll a d10, and if he gets anything other than a 10, the enemy's attack ignores the armor's defensive bonuses.

I honestly don't give a crap about oversexualization in games. If they're overly sexualized, I don't care, as long as they're still able to kick ass. One thing that's always bugged me about Princess Peach is that she's always getting kidnapped, yet in several games such as Super Princess Peach, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG, and the Super Smash Bros. series she's clearly shown as being able to hold her own in battle. This leaves no other plausible explanation for her getting kidnapped other than that she allows herself to get kidnapped. Think about it. There's no other plausible explanation.

Or it could just be that Bowser is stronger and they always have an epic clash each time she gets kidnapped.

Peach is shown kicking Bowser's ass at the end of Super Princess Peach. Plus, Peach is clearly shown not doing anything to resist Bowser in several intros, including most of the New Super Mario Bros. series and the Mario Galaxy Games. Booya.

Peach prefers to solve problems through dialogue and diplomacy over violence for example, when Sheik and Fox were prepared to square off on the deck of Halberd in SSBB and Peach halted the violence to discuss things politely over tea.

She doesn't resist Bowser because she hopes that she can change his ways and the only way to do that is to talk to him.

She's not being oversexualized! There's a difference between sexualizing a character and oversexualizing them, Pierre. A sexualized character is supposed to be seen as sexy on the side. An oversexualized character has nothing going for them except the fact that they are seen as sex object - like in Metro: Last Light. Lightning, on the other hand, still has a personality and other things to do, not just wear sexy clothes.

And I'll say it again, just because I CAN use the sexy clothes doesn't mean I'm FORCED to do it. If I was forced to, my score for LR would be lower. What you're saying is that any type of sexiness on a character immediately means they are oversexualized. Which is stupid. The sprites for Ragnarok Online's female classes have a boob bounce to them. Is that already oversexualized?

LIES! LIES AND OPINION! Lighting has about as much personality as her namesake.

Also sorry, Cat I don't by it, sexualising a character pointlessly is oversexualising something. The words are practically interchangeable in their meaning and there's nothing to say an oversexualised character can't have a personality. If a regular character is taken and tossed into a bunch of strange revealing outfits for no good reason other than fanservice, they are sexualising a character too much, oversexualisation. Of course this whole time spell check has been telling me oversexualisation isn't a word so the meaning might be different to all of us but you understand what I'm getting at. Characters should be attractive on their own merits, they shouldn't require bikini chainmail and cat suits to back that up.

Ok now let ME say it again:

Quote:
1: Cat just because you are not FORCED to use certain costumes does not mean they are not oversexualising a character. The mere existence of them in the game is oversexualising a character. Whether they are used or not doesn't make a difference.

Lets not go down this route again since you seemed to abandon this argument before and have just cycled back on the "Well I'm not forced to play as it therefore it is not oversexualised". Just because you don't have to doesn't mean it wasn't done in the first place. It's like saying "Well there's an oppressive war going on in the middle east but I don't have to pay attention to it, therefore it can't be bad". Whether you engage with it or not it's still a thing.

Also once more: I'm not going to debate other examples with you, lets not get sidetracked. This is about Lightning on her own 'merits' not about comparisons.

But would it make sense for someone with Lightning's personality to wear something like what Ishimaru Kiyotaka posted at the top of this page? From what I've gathered from the first game, no.
And clear something up for me. I know usually not to trust Zero Punctuation's reviews for opinions, but was he lying when he said this? Specifically, the part about God/The Maker/Whatever the hell He's called in this universe taking away Light's emotions?

Lightning was never particularly emotional anyway, she was bland like a piece of paper. Though if there is some in-universe reason to take away her emotions that's kind of hilarious.

They were supposedly taken away, but I still think Light displays a decent array of emotions called Sarcasm and Annoyance. It's more like her emotions in regard to her family were taken away. But then, I don't trust the English translation that well and the Japanese version was a bit more vague, I think.

But why? If she's doing this quest for Serah's sake, why would Bhuni take away Light's emotions in regard to her family? Wouldn't her emotions fuel her desire towards the cause? As Yahtzee said, "Choo choo! Now arriving at plot hole station!"
BTW, is Bhuni's existence ever hinted at in the first game? Because if not, His existence is just as justified as Zeromus in FFIV (as in not at all).

Bhuni took that away so that Light will be focused on her mission of saving souls.
As for Bhuni himself, I'm pretty sure he was mentioned in the datalog's analects or so... but he was always referred to as the Sleeping God or so, so him awakening was not important to the plot. I haven't checked out the Datalogs in a while.

I honestly can sympathize better with Cloud from FF7 than Lightning (from FFXIII 1). Even if Cloud was constantly angsty he seemed to care about his companions and the current situation. Lightning just seems to bitch about things she doesn't like (like snow) and doesn't seem to give a fuck about anything else, or at least is very neutral about her emotions. This means Lightning seems to have so little motivation to complete her goals that you just kind of forget about her or what the purpose of your quest is. Even if cloud was angsty you could see where his motivation came from. Honestly, they should have made Snow the main character of FFXIII 1, he seems to care way more and more genuinely about Sera than Lightning and he's way easier to relate to.

OmG had Snow been the damn main focus in XIII, I wouldn't have finished that damn game. He was the reason I first gave up on the game after 20 minutes. A whole game of him basically going, "SERAAA! SERAAAA!! SERAAAA!!" and his misplaced, obviously wrong optimism about their Focus, I would've thrown my controller into his face so many times!

Also, Cloud was boring for the first part of VII, comatose for the second part and the last part he was annoying for me.

By the way, I went to an interview today. It was at a spa and the girl I talked to at the reception was one of my old classmates from cosmetician school. At first didn't recognize her, mostly cause she looked like any other turkish-german girl I see in Munich, but when I heard her voice I remembered her instantly.
Um... she was not a pleasant person to associate with during school.

But the interview seemed to have gone well. I might get a job there for a while, in an affiliated spa, though. Apparently the girl talked to the interviewer and interviewer would prefer to not have two people who didn't get along so well during school to work in the same place. She didn't say that, she said "for various reason" but that may be a reason. And I am totally fine with that, if she thinks things will work out better if we aren't working in the same location, fine.

I'd just be glad to get a job, even if it's just for three months and low pay.

So I wake up after passing hours on a concept art about an adventure game and I find this:

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/03/17/g ... -says-devs

and this

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/03/17/g ... nish-games

I knew about that the third of player actually finish a game, but those number discouraged me... I can't say I completly disagree with them though...
Please don't hit me...

What?! How the hell can so many people not finish Portal?! The game's only about 4 hours long! I tend to get distracted from games pretty easily, which is why there's a lot of games I've never finished, but I at least had the time to finish Portal!

She's not making me, I chose to. If I were to lay down all day, I'd feel worse so I'd rather move around.
