Upon letting Verrier finish, it was ultimately it was decided this conversation would be better had at the mansion foyer. While leaving the crime scene unattended wasn't the best idea, a killer on the loose didn't leave much of an alternative. Thus began a slow trek back.

Meanwhile at the mansion, a set of tire tracks could be seen to those looking closely out the window.

Edna stepped out of her room. Having noticed the tire tracks, she was curious if somebody was trying to leave. With all the suspicious activity afoot tonight, she decided it was better to investigate and see what was going on there. She went outside, putting on a scarf or something and started following the tire tracks as best as she could in the snowstorm.

Meanwhile, Fritz jolt awake in his room with a cry of terror. He groggily rose from his bed, not entirely sure what was driving his decisions, and looked out the window of his room. Outside, he could see some of the residents of the island milling about as well as the tire tracks.

He turned to his wife lying on the bed, presumably alive.

“Dear? I think something’s wrong,” he said, “We need to move. I think...Erik needs us.”

He headed for the door, intending to investigate the tracks.

"What the fuck are you all doing?" Raphael groggily asked, coming down from the second floor. He was still in his mask and cloak (did he sleep in them?), but he seemed to have a pair of light blue pajamas on underneath it. The commotion had probably woken him. "It's way too early in the morning for this."

As he reached the group, the wine cellar came into view, and Raphael's body suddenly stiffened, as if he was just zapped with electricity.

"...I stand by what I just said," he managed to quip after a few moments of stunned silence.

Obviously this happened in the guest house, before the group migrated to the mansion foyer.

While the others were trekking to the mansion, Edna and Fritz began to follow the tracks. They led towards the water/boathouse and then... stopped. The Mercedes Benz was in plain sight, the front of the car crashed against some rocks. The damage to the car isn’t significant however so it couldn’t have been going that fast.

It’s clear Harley is in the driver’s seat, looking like he’s sleeping. The doors are also locked--a quick pull on each handle says that much.

Panicking for a solution, Fritz smashes the back window with his fist, flicking the door lock on the front door to open it. He yanks on the handle.

In plain sight to Edna and Fritz was Harley’s corpse… is the same. He’s been eviscerated from stomach to sternum, blood spatter completely contained inside the car. Next to him on the passenger seat is the key to the Benz.

"O-oh my god! Harley! NOOOO!!!" Edna shrieked, looking horrified as she pulled on his shoulders in an attempt to waking up... fully knowing he would never wake up. "Who did this to you?! Why?! WHYYYYYYYYY?!" She quickly turned into a sobbing mess, leaning by his corpse.

Meta notices the tire tracks on the trek back to the foyer, “Ah, that’s strange. Someone must have taken one of the cars.”

She dismisses herself from the group and follows the tracks, lead by the quiet determination that only someone her age could have.

She arrives on the scene and covers her mouth in shock.

“We should inform the others as soon as possible. Julia is dead as well and it seems maybe they were both killed in the same way. I just saw the tracks and we weee coming back from the guest house.”

"W-what do you mean?" Edna looked up at Meta in sheer terror. "T-they got Julia too? In the same way and everything?" She grew pale. "B-but... how...? The killer... oh god, there's an actual serial killer on this island..."

She grabbed Meta by the shoulders suddenly, shaking her. "We need to get the others fast! We have to get together quickly as possible, otherwise we won't be safe on our own!!"

Detektiv Erhardt hears the commotion from the foyer, and goes charging out into the snow in his pajamas, calling for Dr. Verrier, his newly-recruited civillian medical examiner, to follow. Upon arriving at the scene, he plunks his briefcase on the rocks in front of the car and drapes the whole scene with tape, as is routine at this point. From the case he pulls out a tire boot that is definitely too big to fit in the case. He clamps it to the back wheel, before placing a ticket under the front wiper that says "impounded by Hamburg PD".

"It seems there is a serial killer on the loose! Dr. Verrier, would you please examine this body as well?" he says, tossing the smaller case into the snow at Verrier's feet. "Can someone go check on everyone who isn't here yet to make sure we don't have any more victims?"

Friedrich appeared to be faring only slightly better than Edna. Upon seeing Harley’s body he had collapsed onto the snow, and now rested there on his hands and feet. Each labored breath from his throat turned into steam in the cold.

“Father...Harley...Julia?” He screamed into the wind. “Who did this? Julia, she never could have hurt anyone. And Harley...how are we going to tell Christina, and...his sons...Fuck, I can’t even remember their names!”

Fritz slammed his fist against the car door angrily the rose to his feet.

“Well, fine then. All we can do now is hunt this murderer down! Come on, we’ve got to meet up again and do something!”

When the Detektiv arrived, he watched him carefully before hearing his question.

“I know Cici is still alive, but I haven’t seen many of the others yet. Erik must be with them...Oh shit...”

Fritz rushed away from the car.

As soon as Lynde entered the foyer he immediately went to his diorama and began to set up Albrecht's locked room death and puzzeling over it.

Though he hadn't seen it himself he had gotten as many specifics as possible from the detektiv and others. As he looked at the scene he muttered to himself one word, over and over:
"How?"

Meta, taking in the scene the best she can from her view behind the Detektiv's shoulder, nods her head and squeezes Edna's hands.

She makes her way back to the manor (probably with Edna), and gently enters the foyer where the others are. She takes a moment to wipe snow from her glasses before speaking, "I'm sorry again to inform you all, but it appears that Harley has been killed. He was locked in a car with his body cut like Julia's. It is currently the working theory that this is the work of a serial killer."

Of course, Meta has many opinions about the event, and even wants to take control and tell everyone what to do, but she holds back.

Verrier nodded numbly, giving Harley's body a once-over. Like before though, he wasn't able to report much. "I'm sorry, this is just so far outside of my expertise... I can only really confirm what you already knew. He's dead, eviscerated from sternum to stomach. Just like Julia." He stepped back, carefully removing the now-bloody disposable gloves. "How are you holding up, detective? I take it you must be used to scenes like this by now?" he asked, unaware of how much of a novice Christof really was.

Juna was left horrified and nearly petrified by Julia's state. Though she reached for Lynde's hand, she ended up retching and forced herself to stop looking by leaving the doorway and leaning on the wall instead, which she shortly after ended up sliding down against.

"Why?! Why did it have to be her?!" She cried to herself continuously, hiding her face in her palms.

It was some time before everyone gathered in the foyer. Some people needed to change into better clothes and others needed a moment collect themselves. But after some time everybody was in one spot.

Gideon’s Benz was slightly different from most cars. You could not simply open the door, lock it, and close the door. It worked much like a room where the door needed to be closed for one to lock it. In short, the only way to lock it from the outside was with the key.

It appeared the car wasn’t running and the brake line was cut. But it’s possible the car was running before the body was discovered. Also the windows are operated by hand cranks and not buttons.

There’s not much to do but mind meld. Heinrich mentions the workroom in the garage has 4 hunting rifles should they think they need them.

[Story is veeeeery flexible now. If you all stay in one room and don’t split up I’ll eventually move things along, but there are a lot of options for how things can proceed and you don’t necessarily need to sit and wait for what’s next]

Ingrid was staring at the key to the wine cellar ever since returning to the foyer, deep in thought. "... I had the gift with me the entire time. But I did sleep for a while. If someone had a master key to get in my room, they could kill Julia and then replace the box I received at dinner with one containing the key. Did Julia have her master key when we found her?"

"... Or maybe I'm the culprit." she laughed, without much humor. "It would be the simplest explanation..."

"They expose you to a lot of gory scenes at the academy, to make sure you can maintain composure for any witnesses or victims to particularly gruesome crimes, so I'm alright I suppose. This certainly is a step beyond though..." he says, composure slipping slightly, "but I'm more concerned about you folks. Is everyone doing ok? I have a witness trauma kit in here somewhere..."

Rummaging through his case, Erhardt pulls out a few small teddy bears in police uniforms and some metallic trauma blankets.

Fritz sat on one of the couches near his family, looking thoroughly drained.

“We’re all trapped here,” he eventually said. “The only police we’re gonna get is that questionable fellow over there. We have no choice but to find whoever’s killing us...and do what has to be done.”

Fritz rose to his feet and began pacing around the room.

“Albrecht died in a locked study after seemingly climbing two flights of stairs. Julia was murdered in the wine cellar, whose only key had been given to Ingrid the day before. Harley was murdered in a locked car several yards from the house.

“They all seem impossible, but remember what Gustav Grimsley always said? ‘Every miracle is of our own making.’ We’re up against a human like us, so if we all put our heads together, I know we can figure this out!”

He tried to give them all looks of reassurance, but his stance revealed that he had very little confidence.

"I don't suppose it's possible to make copies of any of the keys?" Verrier ventured. Despite operating on no sleep, he appeared as composed as ever. "There's a workshop by the garage, there might be sufficient tools there."

Edna wasn't feeling as horrible as she had been when finding Harley but still pretty bad. Biting her nails nervously, she spoke, "U-um... So it looks like Harley and J-Julia were... k-killed the same way, yes? If this means their murderer is the s-same, then... does the order of the deaths matter? The break in the car was sabotaged, so this had to have been preplanned..."

"With preplanning, copying the keys to the cellar and the car becomes a possibility. That would make the suspects everyone who lives on the island and would have access to the keys before today, you, Agnes, Lynde, Jolina, and Juna." Ingrid said. "Of course, 'there was another key' is not exactly a good solution..."

Juna still looked rather shaken, though it's evident she gave her face a refreshing blast of water at least. "All of this just to get into a wine cellar?" She asked, in a leading sort of way.

"Does it need to be a 'good' solution?" Verrier countered. "Consider this. There have been multiple accounts now of a 'ghost Gideon' prowling the island. What if someone here, needing to kill certain people for one reason or another, decided to make it look like these are all classic closed room murder mysteries, just like Gideon would have wanted? But in reality they're just a killer like any other, unfettered by 'rules'. They can 'cheat' as much as they like, so long as it results in us all buying into the story they're telling. Ingrid, you seem to be becoming... unhinged. This isn't one of Gideon's novels, this is real life!"

Lynde nodded at this. "That's exactly why it seems to me thar the best solution is figure out how which i believe then shows us who. For instance if the answer to the how is just extra copies of the keys, you know neither me nor a ghost of Gideon is responsible too boring. Certain routes of planning and plotting quite obviously preclude certain parties. And without more evidence of motive of forensic evidence this is my plan."

Partway through his speech, Lynde returned to looking at the locked study in the diorama, and once he was done he began chewing his lip as he puzzled.

“Perhaps Harley was, err...killed before the car even left the house?” Fritz suggested, “It certainly seems like the crime would be easier to pull off that way. After all, any killer would have struggled to catch up with a moving car.”

"If we don't constrain our thinking somehow, we will never get anywhere. For all we know, there could be some 19th person hidden on the island with a convenient key to any lock." Ingrid answered. "Thinking like that is useless. We'll be sitting here unsure of everything as we're picked off one by one."

"And besides, my theory is still possible. Either Jolina or Juna could kill Julia, lock the cellar, and open my room with their master key to replace the gifts. Or I'm lying about the cellar key coming from the box in the first place. This gives us three suspects."

"Yes, that's what I'm suggesting," Fritz replied. "That could explain how the locked room was created too. Perhaps the killer closed the door with the window open, tossed the knife in, and then tied a rope from the rotating handle in the car to its wheels. Then as the wheels spun the rope turned the handle and caused the window to raise. Maybe once the car crashed the rope shot away and disappeared."

"The details are a little fuzzy," he added with a shrug, "But it's good enough to make a script out of."

"Perhaps... The killer didn't add any sort of clothing?" Agnes says aloud, to nobody in particular despite me replying to Ingrid's post.

"Say, they stripped down, committed their crime, and dressed back up. There would be no need to dispose of anything."

Agnes seemed calm and collected, oddly enough, despite being the youngest person around. She was pretty shaken by Julia's death, but she seemed to have lost that over time.

"W-Who would do such a cruel thing?!" Cici asked, trying her best to remain calm. She wasn't doing a very good job of it, however. "Oh gods... Poor Julia and Harley..."

Juna tried her best to ignore the accusation. Her eye twitched, her grip on her cup tightened and her mouth quirked into a vague expression of irritation. Her temper was close to breaking, but not quite there yet.

Instead, she took a deep breath and then spoke, "I can see someone getting blood on themselves after killing... Julia," she gulped, "-- but not sir Harley. That angle was too awkward, I think," she commented, trying to vaguely motion the way a knife would have to be twisted to reach someone in a driver's seat, "Unless he was transported into the car, I suppose."

Meanwhile Mia had apparently slept through everything and didn't seem to have anything to contribute so she just sort of sat there in silence I guess.

Raphael stood next to Mia in sleepy solidarity.
