Well, you and I were talking about fellatio and hentai mangas, so we were not really chatting PG-13, eh Cat?

That was in a different topic and altogether we weren't talking about actually doing it. And given how movies seem to think showing sex-scenes in movies for 12 year olds is okay these days, I'd think a simple word like that would not be all that terrible.
Also, we weren't actually showing images of hentai manga. Yes, one page I showed of Persona 3, but nothing in that depicted anything specific. I don't want to sound like I'm male an ant out of a mole, but it really sounds like an overreaction to some words.

Quote:
"Fags" is a homophobic term Cat.

And it can also mean cigarette stump. It's like saying "gimp" which can mean various things, some that aren't as offensive as some people may think.

A lot of the stuff I've seen in this thread lately is what I'd call TSFW (Technically Safe For Work). I probably don't have to explain it, but it's essentially stuff that comes very close to NSFW without technically qualifying as such. The spirit of the law is just as important as--if not more important than--the letter of the law, and TSFW only follows the latter while ignoring the former. I'm not calling for a heavy-handed crackdown on such things, but with the release of Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, we can probably expect an influx of younger users whose parents might not want them hanging around a forum where one of the most active threads is often discussing something M-rated.

Could we make a, say, NSFW discussion thread; Something for us older users that like talking about and sharing NSFW stuff?

In such a case, I would say that the parents are still the responsible ones. If they don't like the pages their kids are browsing on the internet, it's the parents' responsiblity to block such pages.

That would be an acceptable attitude in some forums, but we are an Ace Attorney fansite above all else, which means "tolerate it or block it" only goes so far before we risk cutting off a sizable portion of the series's fanbase. Most of the Ace Attorney games are T-Rated, not M-Rated, and this forum needs to reflect that.

Well yeah...but we are PG-13, Parents will see that and then the members aren't living up to those standards. At which point it's the member's fault rather than the parents, then if we wanna go further down the blame train, the mods fault for not enforcing the rules.

Though Bolt has said his bit so his job is done.

Yeah it can mean cigarettes, but it's all about context. The context it was presented in made it clear that it had a homophobic meaning. Plus, though this might just be me, I'm pretty sure the 'cigarette' meaning is exclusive to colloquial British dialect I don't think they are referred as that anywhere else.

*shrug* I still think that the responsibility, ultimately, lies by the parents. If they happen to see our sight and think that, despite the mods doing a good job (although some may not be as visible as others) the page is too "adult-talkey" for their kids, they can still block it and keep the kid from reading the inappropriate stuff.
Otherwise, it sounds like the parent expects the world to bend to the rules they make for their kids. Not that the kid will eventually mature and be appropriate for everything and know about a compromise or trying to adapt to your environment.

Yep, you're right about that. Different words have different meanings in different parts of the world. For instance, the game Mario Party 8 was recalled in the UK for including the word "spastic". Over here in North America, that word is harmless; it just means "crazy or erratic". In the UK, however, it's considered an offensive, insulting term for the disabled, similar to the word "retarded" over here.

Yes I imagine they should probably have a detailed look at the site first but that might be on a good day when no questionable content is the talk of the town, but if a parent goes by the ratings and rules alone then it's our failing for not behaving in accordance with our own rules. Then it's not the world 'bending to parent's rules' rather than the site failing to enforce it's own rules. It's a failure on our behalf in that case.

It's a game where you and a few other players are stuck on a ship, and you have to kill the other players without being discovered. Everyone is trying to kill you, and you're trying to kill them.
Looks interesting enough, but it's got those statuses that you gotta monitor and I suck at managing my character's hunger and bladder problems.
I think I'll stick to Goat Simulator.

No the ship is not free but it's relatively cheap as it's hella old and the company has actually shut down making servers a little tricky to work with at times.

To amend Blak-san's statement not EVERYONE is trying to kill you. You are trying to kill one specific person and one specific person is trying to kill you however it's a mystery who is hunting you so you need to be on the watch for that suspicious person who has been stalking you through the halls.

Guns are rare weapons but powerful but when a weapon is used for a kill, the bounty on that weapon lowers resulting in a lower payout on your hit so you need to keep your kills varied as money ultimately decides who wins. You only get money for killing your target, any other kills (except your hunter) result in penalties.

All the while your need to socialise, shower, eat, urinate, read and sleep are all going up. Eventually you are going to have to crawl into one of the many luxury beds on the ship but that's when that lovely gentleman you met in the lobby will approach you with a knife drawn in your sleep.

That's really disingenuous. No one is talking about cigarettes or bundles of sticks, and to ignore intent and context is the most childish kind of out. It's a defense used by fifth grade playground bullies. Everyone knows the connotations. Don't play stupid.

Also: just because you're cold and cynical and ~too cool to care~ doesn't mean that people who have been the victims of homophobic bullying, or bullied for being autistic, or bullied for being anything are wrong to care. Your performative insistence of being above it all is not more important than their personal struggles.

If you want to make offensive jokes around your friends, that's your prerogative. But don't do it in a public space where it might make someone you don't know feel like crap. It's not that difficult a concept; stop being so obstinate and intentionally, frustratingly oblivious about everything.

... Why... would you need to? Sorry that I'm stuck on this, but some of you aren't doing yourself any favours. Dark humour can be good. I'm not saying you can't joke about serious things, though there's a difference between making a racist joke and a joke about racism. I'm just saying, if you can't be funny without intentionally vilifying an entire, harmless subset of people for something they can't change, you're... probably not all that funny anyway. Find better jokes.

Then why the hell put it in to begin with? It's like Vader wearing an "I'm your daddy" apron and then the large revelation that he's Luke's father, but we're supposed to be shocked but then also not be shocked by that twist. What? (Also, maybe I'm wrong, but isn't Star Wars NOT the first one to do this twist?)
It's kind of silly to put it in...

You're talking to a (n austitic) former bully victim here. And quite frankly, I've grown up with the notion of being able to laugh at myself. Because if you can't laugh at yourself, you're dangerous. It means you can't take any criticism and could blow up and kill someone over something "trivial". I'm not "too cool to care" I just don't see the big problem with it - yes, bullying is bad and can cause mental stress, but that doesn't mean you still can't laugh at yourself.

Cause it's funny. And cause there are people who are too sensitive about something, even in this day and age. It's like the Critic removing his joke/comment "Yeah... he's entertaining the autistic children" in one of his Earnest reviews, cause he thought it was offensive. Personally, I don't think it was offensive and there was technically no need to remove it for that reason. I just think it wasn't very funny, a decent enough reason for removal.

N-no Cat...it really REALLY means you should know better having been on the receiving end. There's a difference between being able to laugh at yourself because you have a sense of humour....and laughing at bullying.

Cat have you considered rather than people being 'too sensitive' you might be particularly thick-skinned towards this kind of stuff? Can you understand why other people might feel bad about this stuff legitimately without being 'over sensitive'? You don't need to understand their reasons as long as you recognise that people aren't overreacting and it's ok for them to feel strongly about this.

Okay, to be more precise... I laugh at the bullies about bullying. Most of the time, the bullies have a weird or no reason at all to bully someone - like in my case. No idea why they did it, I guess they just plain didn't like me which can happen, so now, looking back, I mostly laugh at it - so trying to figure out why they may want to bully you is pointless. Just laugh at them, it might be one small joy you get out of it.

I may be able to understand why someone may think it's bad, but then I also immediately think "don't make it into such a big deal" because the more you turn it into a big deal (homophobic stuff and such) the more it will turn into a big deal. If they treat it like it's just a small joke here and there, people won't be so sensitive about it being discussed - homosexuality in general or other stuff.

Oh. I really did miss a lot, haha. xD

The beginning was quite fun, just with all the ups and downs
But suddenly, we’re tired, from a waste of meaningless emotions

시작은 뭐 즐거웠었네 오르락내리락 그 자체로 어느새 서로 지쳐버렸네 의미 없는 감정소모에

I just looked this game up on steam and looks quite fun! Give me a message on steam next time you want to play, I want in on this.

I also have aspergers, as well. In fact, a lot of gamers have it! The creator of Pokemon has it as well. And people think Albert Einstein may have had it! Goes to show that some of the smartest and most successful people have it, so it may actually be a blessing in disguise, as while it makes it hard for you to socialize with people, it increases the amount of information your brain can store and process, at least, that's the way it was explained to me when I was little!

And there is an old proverb of there being just a fine line between being a genius or insane.

Suddenly 3 people confess having asperger syndrome? I smell an April fools prank...
Face your emptiness don't be afraid. The danger is often smaller than your fear.

I don't know about them, but I HATE April Fools with a bloody passion! I legitimately DO have Asperger's, not sure about them, though.

I was diagnosed with aspergers last year and I hate April Fools as well. Our family treats it like a normal day.
