Ok so role PMs will come tomorrow with phase 3. Important info:

1) If you do not receive an EXPLICIT TWIST WARNING that means the twist in your role PM isn't important enough where there's any restriction on when it's revealed.

2) There's a Relationships section on role PMs, but they aren't strictly necessary and they're not consistent at all across role PMs regarding who is and isn't listed.

3) If you do receive an EXPLICIT TWIST WARNING make sure you talk to me before talking to other players during phase 3.

Oh an 4) if I don't mention everything from your survey in your role PM, I probably just didn't copy + paste it and that doesn't mean it's not part of your character. So feel free to mention anything in the role PM that you want there for posterity.

Phase 3 has begun! Not sure what the best structure for this is, but yea I would start with trying to work out relationships with your family units if you have any. Doing stuff publicly or privately is fine, as long as the content discussed isn't super story important (you know who you are).

Spoiler: Albrecht
Age: 70-ish

Personality: Used to be cruel, resolute and uncompromising. He raised his children very strictly and cruelly, but doesn't even really like how they turned out. He always had a desire for order, for things to be in their right place and events to happen as they should. Very traditional, he helped organise some of the marriages of his children for politicalal/business power, and is very set in his ways regarding gender roles. These days though he's old, senile and detached, and tends to just sleep a lot. [His personality is still quite flexible, like Gideon. Whatever your character needs him to be (especially his children), we can sort something out.]

Backstory: Albrecht grew up in the branch family, until his father Frederick became head. He was old enough to fight alongside the nazis in WWII, though he never went into any detail afterwards so his family don't know much about it. They know he wasn't persecuted during the denazification process at least. He later raised a family on Geistfabel, though his kids all moved out to pursue their futures when they were 18 or so. Then the unexpected happened. Frederick named Gideon, not Albrecht, as next family head. Gideon kicked Albrecht out, which he took very badly. It wasn't long after this that Albrecht had his first stroke, and it was downhill from there. [His backstory is also flexible as need be.]

Relationships:
  • Heinrich: A mixed relationship. They're similar in some aspects, but disagree on others. Albrecht thinks of Heinrich as too soft-hearted, but respects that he's a hard worked who's found success in his line of work.
  • Edna: Despises her. She replaced the wife Albrecht had found for Gideon, and even bore his child outside of marriage while he was still married to Valerie. Not to mention she was just some secretary. He was very rude to her until going senile made him decline.
  • Harley: He was mistreated like all of Albrecht's kids, though Albrecht did appreciate Harley's hobby due to also finding that sort of thing interesting. At least until Harley made a career out of it. Now Albrecht is just disappointed and angry.
  • Friedrich: Mistreated. Youngest child so paid the least attention (other than the female Ingrid). Really dislikes flashy showbiz and such, so very much disapproves of Fritz's career choice.
  • Cecilia: Approves of her, but has often told her it's time to just settle down and be a 'proper wife'. As a woman he doesn't care so much about her career, viewing it as just a thing for a woman to amuse herself with before it's time to settle down as a wife.
  • Ingrid: Mistreated, but also neglected as she was a daughter rather than a son. He's the one who picked Ogilvie out as a husband, so he was pretty angry when she divorced him.
  • Mia: Just some woman. Who cares!
  • Agnes: Mean to her. Views her as a bastard child of an unscrupulous pairing. She tries to seek his approval sometimes, but he invariably shoots her down.
  • Lynde: Rather likes him. While dollmaking isn't prestigious, it is classy, and Lynde started out poor so what can you expect? Albrecht appreciates find-detail, meticulous work.
  • Erik and Raphael: No particular interest. Too young to have done anything he'd disagree with.
  • Julia, Juna and Jolina: Has minimal interest in mere servants. Appreciates Julia at least due to her talent.
  • Verrier: Greatly appreciates him. Verrier's one of the few people who seems able to pacify him, at least a little. Details on the hiring process are unclear.
  • Meta: Resents her for helping Gideon, but appreciates that it's just business. Despite being a woman, he actually respects her, which is very unusual and speaks to Meta's general awesomeness. They argue over differing opinions but he never outright dismisses her like he normally would. They used to have friendly conversations sometimes, until going senile put a stop to it.
  • Ogilvie: Really liked the guy. The ideal husband for a woman. They used to drink together, until the divorce put a rift between them and now Ogilvie no longer returns Albrecht's calls.

Spoiler: Verrier
Age: 35

Personality: Seems friendly enough, though he's somewhat distant. You can never really tell what he's thinking. A lot of his time at family gatherings is spent attending to Albrecht, which he seems very diligent about.

Backstory: Verrier is French, but grew up in Germany from a young age. Details of his past are quite vague. What is known is that he attended a top university and achieved a top-class degree in medicine, before going on to work as Albrecht's personal doctor/assistant/aide. After Albrecht's health began to decline, Verrier took on increasing amounts of responsibility, and now pretty much handles all of Albrecht's affairs on his behalf. Oh also his hair is dyed green.

Relationships:
  • Albrecht: What lies underneath his professional courtesy towards his master? Who knows! He seems fond of him though, and is always attentive to his needs.
  • Heinrich: Seems to respect him.
  • Edna: Watching the two, it's clear he feels sorry for her, but can't say much due to being close to Albrecht. His dislike of Gideon causes tension between them though.
  • Friedrich: A fan of his shows.
  • Cecilia: A great fan of her work. A fellow French person! From her perspective he's probably just some odd servant though, as due to Albrecht he keeps his opinions on Cici to himself.
  • Agnes: They seem close, but due to Albrecht, Verrier has to keep his distance during gatherings. Admonishing Albrecht whenever he was rude to Agnes is the only time Verrier is ever seen to stand up to him though.
  • Julia, Juna, Jolina: Verrier seems very distrustful of Juna, Jolina and many other servants for some reason. He respects Julia though.

Okay gamers it's time for the SUMMARY. Prepare yourselves because it's like 2 am as I'm typing this and I am doing this on the fly baby. All in

Spoiler: Edna
Age: 38 (taking into account Agnes's age anyway).

Personality: On the surface, she looks quite dignified and reserved but with a melancholy expression apparent on her face. Mostly aloof to a lot of the family, most of whom obviously distrust her due to past events. Despite this though, she tries to be as polite to the others as she can, though she can get quite upset if she gets insulted to her face. Otherwise she's usually in the background during family gatherings, doing her best to blend in. She tries to hide it but she's quite exhausted by her duties, and hasn't quite been the same now that Gideon's gone.

Backstory: Before becoming part of the family, Edna originally worked as Gideon's secretary before the two got wrapped up in an affair and had a child together. They named her Agnes, but Gideon had to hide the truth of who her mother really was... that is, until his wife took her life. Before that point, she resided in the guesthouse near the mansion (and hired Juna to take care of it). After that, she moved to the mansion and started living there, though it was clear this move was quite controversial. Around 1984 to 1986, when Gideon left to travel around the world, Edna seemed to be more weary without him. She and Agnes even lived in a hotel together for a few months to take a break from the place. This fatigue was only amplified after his death, however. Agnes was declared the interim head till a new one could be decided but due to her young age, Edna had to take on a lot of the responsibilities herself. It's not easy being family head when most of said family dislikes you, though...

Relationships: In general, Edna tries to be polite to everyone around her. If people respect her she tends to return the favour. Treating Agnes kindly also puts people in her good books. Being rude to either of them or besmirching Gideon's name (especially over the affair) would not make her happy at all, though she would rather keep her distance from such people rather than get into a fight with them over it. She never has shown any aggressive temperament to anyone around her as far as the family remembers. Ever since Gideon died she's definitely been a bit distant to the rest of the family, not talking to others much unless they approach her. Being preoccupied with so many duties will do that to you. Coming to specific relationships, we have:

Gideon: Being Gideon's widow, she seems to dearly miss the man, claiming to have loved him quite a lot, and that life hasn't been the same without him. She doesn't talk about him much though obviously.

Agnes: Things used to be super uncomfortable between the two of them especially at the beginning but the two seem to be on considerably better terms in the present day, operating like a proper mother-daughter pair now. Edna definitely cares about her a lot though she doesn't have as much time to be a loving mother to her at the moment.

Lynde: When he first arrived at the house, things were awkward between the two of them (mainly due to Lynde himself being a bit awkward). They get along fine now, and Edna considers him family though she doesn't quite treat him like her son. Lynde always seems to be putting effort to be nice to her too which has improved their relationship a lot.

Juna: Having been the one to have hired her and lived in the same house as each other for several years, the two seem to be fairly close. They don't talk as much nowadays but before Gideon's death it was quite common to see them together. Edna respects her a lot and especially enjoys her food.

Ingrid: Ingrid was always nicer to Edna than she was the rest of the family, but with the icy treatment she's been giving since Gideon's death combined with Edna's duties means that you don't see the two together at all anymore.

Julia: Their relationship is more professional than anything but they have a mutual respect for each other. Edna used to help around the house in the past and now that she's the temporarily head of the mansion, she and Julia often have to do work together. Because of this she's one of the few people she isn't that distant to, though they don't interact outside of work much. They seem to find each other quite nice which helps.

Meta: Like Julia, Meta is one of the few people in the household whom Edna isn't distant to. Meta helped out Edna a lot in the past, handling all the legal work when it came to the affair as well as after Gideon's death. Despite technically being hired by Gideon, she also supported adding Edna to the family and making sure she had fair rights. In the present day, the two rely on each other for work related affairs with Meta helping out Edna with some of the more daunting tasks that the family head is responsible for. Edna appears to look up to her a lot, calling on her assistance fairly regularly now.

Albrecht/Verrier: Albrecht clearly scares her a lot since he hates her guts. Edna makes sure to avoid him whenever possible. This also seems to apply to Verrier for whatever reason.

Heinrich: The two appear amicable nowadays though they don't talk much. Edna seems to respect him a lot, treating him well whenever she can.

Harley/Fritz/Raphael/Erik: Hasn't seem to have really spoken to them all that much. Leans ambivalent to them.

Mia/Cici: Also not spoken too much but she leans more amicable to them.

Jolina: Edna would treat her with respect like she does the rest of the servants though Jolina would probably talk shit about her behind her back.

Ogilvie: He once called Edna a "fucking harlot" behind her back, which she overheard. This made her cry herself to sleep for like 3 weeks straight. She's definitely very happy about the divorce.

Is she vibing: No :(

uhhhh yeah that's it for now, good luck gamers hit me up if you got any cool ideas

Spoiler: Harley Nicholas
Age: Younger than Ingrid, but older than Fritz. Probably around in the mid-40s to late-40s.

Personality: A kind, caring and creative man who liked to take apart things and then put them back together. Due to being an auto mechanic, Harley always winds up getting dirty after working with cars. He always makes sure that things work the way they intended to work. Due to how his father raised him, Harley would choose to talk it out rather than get violent. He cares about those close to him.

Backstory: Ever since he was a child, Harley always liked to annoy his siblings by taking apart their possessions, but he would impress them by putting them back together. This habit would determine his future as an auto mechanic. Much to his father’s dismay, Harley would rather do something that he loved and started his own auto garage. There, Harley met the love of his life, Christina, and got married. People would say that he married her out of love. Together, Harley and his wife both have two sons, Karl and Daniel.

Relationships
  • Albrecht: At first, Harley resents his father due to how he treated him and his siblings. But when Harley saw his father in a wheelchair for the first time, he couldn’t help but pity him slightly.
  • Heinrich: Due to Albrecht’s cruel behavior, Harley is grateful towards Heinrich and sees him as an actual father figure, even if it mean having to listen to him ramble about his hobbies.
  • Ingrid/Fritz: Any problems that Harley had with his siblings, he can often overlook, knowing that they were raised by a strict man such as Albrecht. Harley wished he could be more supportive to his siblings, especially after Gideon’s death.
  • Ogilvie: One time, Ogilvie was a customer at Harley’s auto garage and the mechanic just so happened to overhear him complain about how long it took for the car to be finished and insulted his work. Harley was offended by this and decided to take action; he intently broke one of the taillights on Ogilvie’s car just so the poor guy will get pulled over by the police. Harley’s glad that Ingrid divorced Ogilvie...

Also, Harley's family can choose to call him by either his first name or Nick, which is derived from his middle name. If anyone wish to establish a relationship with Harley, feel free to let me know.

Alright gamers, let's go.

Spoiler: Agnes von Brandauer
Age: Likely 18. Can go up if needed, depends on how awkward this would make Erik/Fritz's family.

Personality: Agnes is a relatively quiet girl. She's close to whoever she's close to and distant to everyone else. Makes sense! She definitely comes across as handling herself well, even if her circumstances would lead others to believe that she'd be in a tough spot.

It's somewhat tricky to describe, but she's attached to people she's formed strong bonds with while she was young. She's hardly confrontational and happy to see and speak with her family when she can, but is probably a bit of a doormat when it comes to gatherings and tries to keep with people she's familiar with. I'm horrible at describing personalities especially before I play the character but I think I'm getting the point across. I'll probably elaborate later or maybe not.

Backstory: Agnes was born to Gideon and Edna, but raised by Gideon and Valerie. As most kids are, she was cheery and all that other garbage. Though as she got older her "Mother" likely began to resent her due to the circumstances and eventually took her own life.

During this transitional period Agnes was incredibly reserved and quiet, barely speaking with others who were not close. It would be obvious to others that she openly resented her father and Edna over what has happened, but over the years she warmed up to them. Lynde was adopted into the family at this time as well, which only amplified the strange things going on in her life at this time.

Then, Gideon was declared head and the family moved to Giestfabel. It was around this time she began to read her father's stories, and shortly after began to write herself, opening up to the family again and sharing her mysteries with them.

Eventually, Gideon began to travel, and Agnes stuck with her mother. Stayed with her when they moved into the hotel, and even to the present day, with everything going on. Agnes became notably depressed when Gideon passed, but slowly it seemed like she was attempting to get her life back on track again, after being declared interim head. And now we're at present day and I think that's all I have to say oops don't know how to end this.

At some point I intended for Agnes to have a fiancé, who would only really exist outside of the game and likely not be relevant for anything. But it seems difficult for this to be set up, unless someone like Albrecht set it up for her (which I actually doubt he'd do) but if anyone reads this and has a genius idea or something let me know. But the way things are going right now this fiancé will likely not exist so don't worry too much about it. He might end up just being like a boyfriend or something.

Spoiler: Relationships
(These are all very flexible still, I want to reach out to a lot of people as they post, if your character isn't here and you want to be here let me know we can probably sort something out, but I haven't talked to everyone yet either so these are just almost placeholders)

Edna: The two did not always get along, but now in the current day they seem to be just like any other mother/daughter pair. Though it took a few years to go from calling her "Miss Edna" to "Mother"
Lynde: Lynde and Agnes, while not exactly like siblings, are relatively close to each other and both enjoy discussing mysteries with one another. Family, but not quite.
Juna: Likely a good friend, due to Juna's relationship with Edna. Nothing super close though.
Julia: Probably like Agnes' second (third?) mother. I imagine them being close, especially during awkward transitional years where Agnes was in a rough spot.
Ingrid: Probably not a parental figure, but someone she'd definitely be close to. Shared love of mysteries. Ingrid might be a bit of a role model for Agnes, I dunno.
Albrecht: Probably someone she wanted to make proud. Clearly he does not approve of her existence, but she still tries. Likely fails, but she tries.
Other aunts and uncles: Likely people Agnes wants to impress. Unless we chat about a closer relationship they might not be all that close. I don't want to just have boring relationships with all these though so if I come up with something or if YOU come up with something let me know!
Other cousins: Agnes is probably a lot more friendly and closer to them than the aunts/uncles. Though it depends, but they'd likely meet as kids annually and form strong relationships when they were young. At least that's what I'm thinking for now.

Again a lot of these are placeholders/suggestions. I'm okay with leaving things as they are now but I'm gonna probably reach out as more people post their summaries. If your character is up there and you don't like what's there let me know. Or if you wanna be up there let me know I don't know how to end this one either so I'll say it one last time but please we should chat about relationships ;o

This post will probably be edited as stuff develops. Check back here later! I hope what I put was understandable enough, though.

Okay I actually made it. Been working on it all day and this is legit all I have to show for it, goddamn. I think it's good though.

Spoiler: Ingrid
Age: Nebulous. Whatever Gideon's age ends up being, I really don't want to stress too hard about this.

Personality: Ingrid is amiable and chipper, but there is a noticeable distance between her and most of the family. She was always closer to Gideon than to any other relative and his death greatly affected her, causing her to act cold and withdrawn to the rest of her family. She still attended every reunion afterwards, though.
Ingrid is also a voracious reader, particularly a fan of mysteries, and within those particularly a fan of Gideon's. Even after her brother's own death under mysterious circumstances, her tastes haven't changed. If anything, she reads even more now.

Backstory: The important parts are:
1. Ingrid used to be in an arranged marriage, since divorced.
2. Some time afterwards, she moved in with a friend named Mia, who has also since started attending family reunions with her.
3. She has grown very emotionally distant from her family ever since Gideon's death.

Relationships:
Mia: Ingrid's roommate and best friend. Though she's grown cold to her relatives, she doesn't seem to act any differently around her.

Albrecht: Ingrid was never fond of him, and didn't really grow any fonder just because her brother died. She's especially bitter about the arranged marriage he got her into.

Heinrich: She saw Heinrich more as a father figure than Albrecht ever was.

Edna: Ingrid was always much nicer to Edna than most of the family. She wasn't spared the icy treatment after Gideon's death, however.

Agnes: Ingrid is especially fond of her niece, and the two get along well based on their shared interest for mystery novels. She is one of the few family members she still acts friendly towards.

Meta: Handled Ingrid's divorce proceedings. She is rather thankful for that.

Her non-Gideon siblings: Their relationship before Gideon's death can be flexible, just DM me if you have any ideas.

Ogilvie: Ingrid's ex husband. He is not relevant to any of this, I just want to point he's named Ogilvie, like Ogilvie's syndrome, because he's a pain in the ass. Ingrid used to make this joke. A lot.

okay gamers here we go
also backstory is sorta gonna be barebones til i get a better grasp on how Fritz and Cici parented him and such so pls bear with me

Spoiler: Erik
Age: 18-22

Personality: Erik is a very kindhearted, thoughtful young man who does his best to show everyone respect. Well, those who deserve it, anyway. As long as they're respectful to him and others, he'll treat them fairly. If not, well, he'd make his dislike of a person fairly obvious, though he wouldn't go out of his way to instigate something. If said other person started something, though, he'd jump in to tell them off. He can be a bit hotheaded when it comes to things like that. He also could really care less about class -- he does his best to get to know everyone, whether they're a mere servant, family member like a cousin, or complete stranger he happens to strike up a conversation with. Money doesn't matter to him -- it's what a person is like that counts to him. He can also be a bit snarky when the time arises, though it's only playful teasing to those he's close to. Much more scathing and hostile if you're someone he isn't fond of. He usually tries to stay positive and happy, though occasionally, he'll just... stare off into the distance at times, looking a bit melancholic. If someone asks him what's wrong, though, he'll quickly brush it off and change the subject. It's a habit of his. He also likes reading a lot, so there's that. Also has a strange fear of being in cars, and refuses to drive despite having a license and having shown an avid interest in cars during his younger years.

Backstory: Erik was born between Fritz von Brandauer and his wife, Cecelia. Funnily enough, he seemed to have inherited Cecilia's heterochromia (I know it's not genetic but it's a funny coincidence). Ever since, Erik has worked quite hard to hold up his family's good name. He was a good student in school, made friends easily, and loves his parents dearly. Due to his parents' careers as actors and big names in the entertainment industry, Erik has devoted himself to studying theater, though he holds a special place in his heart for writing his own stories as well. Who knows -- maybe if he writes a novel, it would be turned into a movie one day! ... Though it'd probably be worse than the book.

Relationships:
Fritz: Nothing huge set in stone yet, but for now, Erik cherishes his father and deeply respects him. He couldn't ask for a better dad.

Cici: Much like his father, Erik cares about his mother deeply. He does have reservations regarding her attitude towards the servants, however, and often tries to treat them with respect, unlike her.

Agnes: He can't help but feel bad for the poor girl, and he would likely go out of his way to try and make her feel comfortable at family reunions and the like. In his eyes, it's not her fault she's a bastard child, and he wants to give her the respect he feels she deserves. She's still a person.

Albrecht: He likely hasn't had much interaction with him, though from what he's heard, he isn't a huge fan of his classist beliefs and way he treated his children. Still, though, given his current health physically and mentally, Erik just keeps those opinions to himself. No point starting something.

Raphael: Like Agnes, he likely feels bad for him, though for a different reason. He'd likely try to do whatever he could to lift Raphael's spirits and assure him he's still a good cousin despite his injury, though he wouldn't bring it up as he knows it's a sore spot for him. He'd just try to spend time with him and hopefully make him a bit cheerier.

Edna: While he disagrees with what she and Gideon did, what with him cheating on Valerie and all, he still treats her with respect. He may be a bit colder toward her than some, but never openly hostile, and if she wanted a conversation with him he'd happily oblige.

That's all I've got for now. If anyone wants a more in-depth relationship or something, please let me know! I'm more than happy to try and set stuff up.

Spoiler:
Jolina Wolff
Age: 19
Personality: Jolina appears to be an upbeat and diligent enough servant who is respectful of the von Brandauers and her higher-ups. To those not in charge, she generally lets her facade slide, as long as she feels it won’t hamper her chances at getting paid, revealing herself to be much more irritable, lacking in a positive working attitude, and an extremely petty person.

Backstory: Jolina is currently a maid to the von Brandauer family at Geistfabel in her 3rd year of employment. While she is probably capable of performing a majority of her tasks she has always tried to find ways to cut corners or push her work onto others when the spotlight is off of her. She would have loved to not be working during the family reunion this year, but with many others falling ill she found herself working the 28th of February and the increased workload with only 3 servants present.

Relationships: Jolina tries to present her best to the von Brandauers as well as their guests, seeing any of the family as the potential heirs to Gideon and her terms of employment. She extends politeness to the head servant as well as the family lawyer, but not many others. That’s all I got folks.

Heinrich von Brandauer
Spoiler: Age
Late 60s – Early 70s

Spoiler: Backstory
Due to being born in what at the time was a branch family and being the youngest of his siblings, he had to work harder than most von Brandauers in order to make his money. However, his post-war business ventures proved to be extremely successful which made him a candidate for the headship before being abruptly usurped by Gideon. It’s unclear what he did during WW2. He must have done something but in the rare occasion that he’s asked about that period, he becomes very uncomfortable and quickly changes the subject.

Spoiler: Personality
Calm, kind and gentle old man (maybe sometimes to his detriment). Generally fine but when he’s happy he sometimes rambles on about his hobbies like hunting and fishing. He’s also quite traditional (but more open to change) and even though he tries to hide it, he’s uncomfortable around and has a bit of disdain for the flashier/more arrogant members of his family. It seems like he doesn’t really care that much about not becoming the head, as he’s perfectly content with the life he’s built but then again, if he still harboured any grudges then he obviously wouldn’t have made his feelings public.

Spoiler: Relationships
Albrecht: Likely disapproves of his methods but has never challenged them due to his unconfrontational nature.
Albrecht’s children: Treated them with more kindness and respect than their own father ever did and has therefore become somewhat of a father figure to them.
Raphael: Even though Heinrich would like to get to know him, they’re very distant and he knows barely anything about Raphael. Without prior knowledge, it’s very hard to tell that they’re even related from the way they treat each other.
Others: Will probably be cordial to and is unlikely to have a negative relationship with.
Feel free to DM me if you want to expand upon any of these.

Spoiler: Friedrich "Fritz" von Brandauer
Age: Youngest of the Gideon siblings, probably early 40s.

Personality:

One of the more generally upbeat members of the family. He tries to keep the mood up by making plenty of jokes and seeming interested in everyone, but the family can’t help but wonder if he’s just keeping up appearances. If triggered by others, a sharp anger will slip through, particularly toward those he feels resentful toward (such as his father). One gets the impression that he keeps too many things bottled up. Sometimes he seems a bit distant from the family, supposedly due to preoccupation with his work.

As a director, he knows how to take charge and will often take it from those more qualified than him. He’ll often try to invoke his role from his show when there’s a puzzle that needs solving, but he isn’t nearly as clever as the sleuth he portrays. He gets upset when people fail to fulfill the duties expected of them and will let them know that. He inherited a little more of Albrecht’s personality than he would care to admit.

Backstory:

As a child, Fritz would often pick fights with some of the siblings, particularly Gideon, likely due to being the oft-overlooked youngest one. Nowadays he at least has some star power. No one expected him to hit his big break with one of Gideon's stories, and some still might not believe it, but he hasn't looked back since. In addition to his most famous TV show, he's worked on other shows and a few movies. He met Cici on one of these productions, and the two later married. Aside from a wedding invitation, the von Brandauer family received no warning. Since then, Cici has started to appear more often in Fritz's work, and the two gave birth to a son, Erik. Fritz doesn’t really understand why his whole family has heterochromia except him, but he makes the best of it. Lately, Fritz has been under fire for behavior at his sets, with some feeling that he's too harsh or plays favorites too often or is just kind of dumb, but that's probably just tabloid nonsense.

While Gideon wrote loads of stories that became popular and acclaimed, he was most recognized for those featuring Gustav Grimsley, a Norwegian undertaker who began solving impossible crimes after taking in a most peculiar corpse. He was eccentric and comically creepy, but he was also a loving family man who struggled over existentialist dilemmas. Fritz truly believed Gustav's story should be told to a wider audience. By sheer luck he managed to get the story picked up, and the first two seasons were faithful adaptations of Gideon's stories that seemed almost made for TV. But since running out of books, the story has gone downhill, alternating sporadicly between passable and atrocious mysteries with somewhat lackluster narratives. Gideon often wasn't pleased about the direction the show was taking, though Fritz still believes in it. This led the two of them to feud almost constantly, and they usually got in at least one argument per gathering. Still, anyone who's watched the whole show would know it's no match for the books, but saying that around Fritz would just be asking for trouble.

Relationships:

Cici: Cares about her perhaps a little too much, either not noticing her attitude or ignoring it around the family. He appears to love her genuinely though. He wrote her into his show as a major character, which caused some critical controversy as her character started taking attention from those Gideon created.

Erik: Despite Erik’s high grades, Fritz feels he could treat his schooling a little more seriously. He pressures him quite a bit to succeed, though not to the extent of Albrecht. It’s obvious that he’s the light of his life.

Albrecht: Doesn’t care much for him. He succeeded in pissing him off numerous times with both his choice of career and wife. He pities him for his current health, but not a whole lot.

Heinrich: Similarly to Harley, Fritz views Heinrich as a father figure. The two appear to be quite close.

Ingrid/Harley: Probably closer to Harley than Ingrid, but he has no qualms with either of them. Perhaps he should have been more available to them after Gideon's death though. Ingrid would probably not be a fan of Fritz's show due to its frequent obliteration of Knox's Commandments.

Agnes: Has been surprisingly supportive of her recently, likely due to Gideon’s death. Before then, he didn’t pay her much mind.

Mia: He missed the reunion when she first met the family. He has no clue who she is or why she keeps showing up but knows if he asks now he’ll look like a jerk.

Other servants: Treats them decently, though not as kindly as Erik, but can get irate if they don’t meet his expectations of him. For instance, he expects them to maintain some professionalism by calling him Friedrich and would get peeved if he heard them say “Fritz.”

Ogilvie: Once in a freak filming accident Fritz received a painful shock from some recording equipment. While recovering in the hospital, Fritz heard that Ogilvie had made a really shitty joke about his nickname and electricity. He never forgot about that, and he’s actually glad Ingrid broke up with him. The dude was an asshole.

Knor's Character: He doesn't remotely trust them.

If you're not here it means I haven't thought of anything solid enough to post yet. We can of course continue to hash out details privately.

Don’t know if I mentioned this or if people are already doing it. But you guys are allowed to DM each other details you want to work out for relationships, I trust that you’ll all follow the honor system and not break MAMA. This is only while the game hasn’t started though.

If there’s any twist information being discussed, even if shared, I’d like to be included in the group DM but got for general relationship stuff it’s not needed.

Spoiler: Juna Wessely
A twenty-six year old caterer.

---
Personality
---

When not in service, she's an upbeat and chipper person, though prejudiced and quick to judge others. She has a habit of going on rants about small or otherwise irrelevant things, which can be slightly annoying sometimes. Her Saxon accent is also very obvious (and also potentially annoying), which led basically everyone to guessing that she's East German right off the bat. However, she avoids displaying this side with most second or third generation family members, opting for a more curt and deadpan attitude, which may be seen as hostile, depending on what your outlook on that is.

When doing her job, she's polite, curt, to the point and even a bit mean when pointing out flaws, as she does so very directly. She's not very perfectionist and her food often contains quite a lot of salt, which she often mentions how it was a rare comodity where she's from, so she wants to make the best out of it. Also has a habit of making stew out of leftovers as a sort of tradition from her family. A lot of it ends up disappearing, for whatever reason. The rest is used as an implicit threat a-la "you're getting leftovers if you don't behave", which often sounds like a joke but she says it with such a straight face that nobody can really tell. She has a pretty bad and obvious tic of constantly checking behind corners to see who's listening in, and often refuses to talk about sensitive things without confirming who's in the room.

Often carries around a well-kept wooden flute with a trinket attached to it. She plays it fairly often in her room at the guest house, which some people may or may not appreciate.

---
Backstory
---

Very evidently an East German who escaped along with her family (though she doesn't mention exactly who) to West Germany through the Austrian border. This happened around the age of ten, and when pressed for details she'd often look around for a few seconds, then respond that she doesn't really remember much, other than it being a fairly scary experience. What she did remember, though, were the bad conditions she lived in after that; her father and mother worked high hours for low pay in dangerous fields. She didn't have access to many amenities at the time either, and one particular story she likes to tell is how her first taste of Western food was absolutely amazing, even if she doesn't actually say how she got that hamburger.

Nonetheless, she eventually managed to get into university for a catering degree, which she remarks that her parents were pretty unhappy about it. She ended up getting the job after graduating, but that story always manages to put her on the spot and makes her a little embarassed, especially in front of Edna. Particularly because of how hard she begged for it. Juna ended up warming up pretty fast to everyone, but over time she got more temperate and closed off to most people, resulting in her current public attitude.

---
Relationships
---

- Lynde: The two are very close and hang out around eachother a lot. They seem to mesh well and Juna was one of the first people to take a liking to him. The trinket on her flute looks distinctly like Lynde's other works.

- Agnes: Juna and Agnes aren't exactly close friends, but they seem to get along often and talk quite a bit.

- Edna: Juna and Edna are fairly close and talk quite a bunch, though this is kind of a granted considering that Edna employed her.

- Jolina: Only very few things manage to get an icy glare from Juna, and Jolina showing up is one of them.

- Juna talks to Fritz, Harley and Ingrid occasionally, but the more attentive would-be-murderers may have noticed that the words she gives them are almost like lip service. In fact, she could be seen looking at their jewelry more than their face! The horror!

If you want to add something here feel free to hit me up on Discord. There's a few things I'm looking to get in the relationships section specifically (especially if you're one of the latter three people mentioned here) so there's definitely available space.

Okay I don’t have time for a full write up yet for my character but I guess I can respond to a few things:

Albrecht - Meta has been around since she was originally hired by Frederick a long time ago for something that’s probably unimportant. As such, Meta has talked with Albrecht quite a lot over the years and has a friendly relationship . She does her best to not upset Albrecht, but considering she was involved in the process which removed him from his home, there is probably resentment. Regardless, she reminds him that it’s just business and it shouldn’t get in the way of their relationship. Their similar age allows them to reminisce about the world in a similar way.

Heinrich - Similar to Albrecht, but it’s much easier for her and Heinrich to talk. She loves hearing hunting stories and by this point has quite a deep knowledge of hunting and fishing. She uses her knowledge to listen along to him and is often found talking to him while she takes a short break from her work.

Ingrid - Meta was really helpful to Ingrid during her divorce. Meta was well-versed in divorce law and was as ruthless as possible on Ingrid’s behalf. Of course, Meta was never married and always felt it was a scam so she would have done her best to improve Ingrid’s mentality. Meta would have a good relationship with Ingrid through this experience and would talk to her like a good acquaintance.

idk how to do this but here we go

Spoiler: Julia Weber
Epic maid, she's existed for longer than you think. A hard worker with a passion for dress making and embroidery on the side. She is very strong do NOT mess with her. Just kidding, she wouldn't hurt a fly.

---
Personality
---

She's nurturing and mother-like despite having no children, she may have a little sibling or something.
She's super nice, an actual angel. She knows the family isn't perfect, but she's worked with them for decades and sees the beauty in all of them.

She trusts everyone in the family that is close to her but she's not DUMB. It's very difficult to make her like actually angry. She might scold u if necessary but she doesn't like yelling.

---
Backstory
---

What I have is kinda vague but the general idea is that she was hired at a young age and is very grateful for some reason. Yeah.

---
Relationships
---

Ingrid, Harley, and Fritz: She's always been close to them. They all share a lot of happy memories with each other.

Agnes, Lynde: Probably close to them too! Pretty much anybody who's lived at the manor for some time.

Juna: She's a mother figure to her, and she's not afraid to scold her. She's a troubled girl for sure.

Jolina: Well, nobody's perfect! And that's ok! (verbatim)

I wasn't very sure abt these i just copied what I have from my role pm, dm me if u wanna DISCUSS.

Spoiler: Cecilia von Brandauer
Age: Early to mid 40s. Depends mostly on Erik's age I guess.

Personality: Kind, friendly and caring for the most part. Deeply loves her husband and son, and gets along with her husband's side of the family well enough. She's a bit of a narcissist and that side of her can cause fights with others from time to time. She's a bit overdramatic as well. Tends to look down on most of the servants.

Backstory: A French actress and screenwriter who met Fritz while working on a production and the two fell in love. Eventually they were married and she gave birth to their son, Erik. Even though she's being cast as a major character she's not as great of an actress as she thinks she is. Just don't tell her that.

Realtionships:

Fritz: Loves and deeply cares for him. She tends to worry about him and wish he'd try to relax every once in a while.

Erik: Like Fritz, she loves and cares deeply for her son. She's extremely proud of him and will brag about him whenever possible.

Albrecht: Probably doesn't care too much for him, considering the way he raised Fritz. Like Fritz she pities him for his current health but that's about it.

Julia: Probably the one servant Cici respects, because of all the work she does and how she helped take care of Fritz as a child. She likes her and likely wouldn't say anything bad about her.

I'll try to add more to this later. If you're interested in expanding your character's relationship with Cici at all let me know! I'm open to just about anything!

It's ya boi, Lynde comin straight from the underground.
Background
Spoiler:
Lynde is certainly an odd duck. He was born behind the iron curtain and lost his birth parents at around fourteen, but then became an artist, specializing in dolls and dioramas. His work was never really what anyone would call “Big” but it was impressive to those in the circles that cared about it, and that definitely included Gideon.
Gideon that Lynde had created his own meticulous dioramas of several famous crime scenes as well as the infamously unsolved murder of the Chaufferfrom Raymond Chandler’s “The Big Sleep.”
It was then that Gideon Decided he needed access to Lynde’s skills. While more normal channels of immigration failed, Gideon went so far as to adopt Lynde, and bring him into his own home to get access to Lynde’s craftsmanship. And so it has been for the past eight years. Lynde has just been around. Quietly working on Dioramas, reading Gideon’s manuscripts or other mystery novels, and generally being just too quiet and intense.
Gideon has spent the years since Gideon passed primarily on the island working on his own projects, not seeing very many people at all, exactly as he likes it.

Personality:
Spoiler:
Withdrawn is a good word to describe Lynde most of the time. He generally seems to be in another world, and doesn’t really see the point of coming back to this one. He definitely seems to prefer working with the Dolls and models of his diorama’s to interacting with people. There is a slight saving grace for him though, which is that he has been brought into a family heavily influenced by Mystery Novels, which are something he can talk about at length.
He is absolutely willing to talk about any aspect of mystery novels at any hour of the day or night, and is also likely to try and use them to relate to the other members of the family.

Relationships:
Spoiler:
Juna: Canonically known to be Lynde’s closest friend. The two being from The East was the seed of a strong friendship that has lasted for years.

Edna: Lynde very obviously likes and respects Enda, and as outsiders to the family they have something big in common, a bond that has definitely strengthened since the passing of Gideon.

Agnes: Lynde is very fond of Agnes, and the two of them have a good relationship that is based a lot on their willingness to listen to each other talk about the current mystery they are reading

Meta: Lynde has a lot of respect and gratitude for the part she played in getting Lynde where he is now.

Spoiler: Mia
Age: Uh probably about the same as Ingrid, maybe a handful of years younger

Personality: Soft-spoken and reserved for the most part, but friendly if you talk to her. Loves reading (though not quite to the extent of her roommate) and strategy/diplomatic board/card games.
Not really part of her 'personality' but she seems to have a bit of a subconscious tic where she'll click her tongue when she's particularly nervous, frustrated, or otherwise stressed.

Backstory: Not much to say really, she's just a simple city clerk who met Ingrid at some point. The two became fairly fast friends and Ingrid eventually moved in with Mia.

Relationships:

Ingrid - BFF, see above

The others - While she's gone to Ingrid's family reunions for a bit, she probably hasn't talked with them enough to form any sort of strong bonds due to her wallflower-ish nature (but if anyone wants to work something out feel free to HMU)

Spoiler: Gideon
Age: Probably would be 48 in 1988

Personality: How Gideon acted depended largely who he was around. He could be very childish when it came to his mysteries, and he had a lot of enemies. He did a lot of absurd things while he was alive, to the point where a lot of the family can't rule out that he's secretly alive and he's playing a trick. He was almost certainly mentally ill, but that's not the kind of thing people were informed on in the 80s.

Ghost!Gideon has been driven to madness from an eternity in Limbo. He's evil and insane, and doesn't have love for any of his family. He's practically unrecognizable except for his love of closed rooms, which has persisted.

Spoiler: Meta
Age: Mid 70's

Personality: Meta is the type of person who will rest when she's dead. As she grows older, this description becomes more and more literal. On the off-chance that she's not working on one of her cases, she likes to spend her time in conversation. She's a good talker and listener, which means she can confidently speak on most subjects and make anyone feel at home talking to her, even some of the more eccentric characters. She also spends a little time here and there reading fiction, and as a child of the golden age of detective fiction, she has read many classic mysteries in addition to other books. Perhaps hilariously, her interest does not extend to Gideon's books, probably because of her work as the protector of Gideon's IP. She's been molded into a sharp arguer, and although she prefers to avoid confrontation, she also is perfectly at home springing into a debate with someone when they wish to belittle her for her career-oriented life. Her normal persona when she's just talking is very spacey and laid back, as she saves her energy for her work.

Backstory: A child of the Weimar Republic, from an average family who suffered, Meta was forced to be as diligent and prudent as possible. Seeing that the world was changing rapidly around her, Meta thought that being a lawyer would be a safe and satisfying job, even if it worked her to the bone. She was very much challenged, being in the early waves of women becoming lawyers. She had to present herself as more masculine and compromise on her personality in order to achieve a small amount of success and do her best to protect herself against people with ill-intentions. After school, she worked in a law firm for a while, spinning her wheels, when she was sent out to Geistfabel to deal with a particularly asinine estate lawsuit. She had good knowledge of estate law and was more willing to travel and deal with this family than others nearby. It was during that time, that, even if she wasn't the best lawyer possible, she became the "right" lawyer. Perhaps it was merely luck. So she began to work more and more with the von Brandauer family, doing her best to specialize in their specific needs. She became well versed in family law when she sensed that a couple in the family were about to split. She left her law firm formally and became completely independent and that was satisfying to her. She never even thought about having a family or a romantic partner, it didn't interest her. Over the years, she eventually helped Gideon when the estate was passed to him, and then worked with Edna when she became the interim head. Even in her old age, she seems to show no signs of slowing down or wishing to retire.

Relationships:
Gideon - Meta worked with Gideon for over a decade and could be considered a long-time friend of his.

Edna - Meta was always respectful of Edna and did her best to attend to her during her awkward integration into the family. She is one of Edna's longest allies in the von Brandauer house, but probably couldn't be called a friend.

Albrecht - Meta is able to relate well to Albrecht coming from the same era and spoke to him often. Unfortunately, his traditional views were a major threat to Meta, and she had to argue with him often. Fortunately, she was able to get some respect even as a woman. They are friends.

Heinrich - Meta loves talking with Heinrich when she is at the house. Being easier to talk to than his brother, they talk about hunting and fishing. They are friends.

Ingrid - Meta and Ingrid relate over their love of books, and Meta kicked a lot of butt on behalf of Ingrid during her divorce. They aren't terribly close, but Meta checks in with her on occasion to make sure all is well.

Lynde - Meta thought Lynde was pretty cool, and was glad to help him move to the West. Their relationship is like that of a professor and student, where there's a certain degree of separation due to their different places in life, but they love to discuss Lynde's favorite detective books.

Julia - Meta probably knows Julia well and sees her has a friend, even if they don't talk when Meta isn't at the manor. Meta is very grateful for the good provisions of the manor and really only sees Julia as responsible for that.

Spoiler: Raphael Fontaine Montague von Brandauer
Age: Late 20s

Personality: Glum. He's given up on the world, and wants the world to just give up on him and leave him be. He typically keeps to himself. He tries to avoid the public, but pays no mind to the strange look and treatment he receives whenever he needs to go outside. If someone else engages with him, he won't actively push them away, but he won't do much to push things forward either. His outlook has given him an acerbic sense of humor. He'll often end up insulting whoever he's talking with or whatever he's talking about, and it's easy for someone who doesn't know Raphael to take it personally, but it's not and he's equally deprecating towards everything (including himself). He absolutely despises talking about his mask and disfigurement and will steer the conversation away from it as quickly as possible if/when it comes up, but he also understands it's a necessary topic whenever he meets anyone.

Backstory: Bright, handsome, and outgoing, Raphael seemed to have a promising future. While not anywhere near the level where it'd be conceivable that (in the future) he'd pull a Gideon and unexpectedly take the family headship (not that his side of the family would've even wanted that for him), there was little doubt he'd be an honorable representative of the von Brandauer family. At least, until an accident left him with horrific burns across his entire face and upper chest. In an instant, any hope of a normal social life burned away. Fortunately for Raphael, Heinrich's side of the family is much softer than Albrecht's and his tragedy was not treated as a personal failure. His family tried their best to help Raphael recover psychologically and emotionally, but unfortunately there's only so much you can do about grievous facial burns, and Raphael eventually settled as simply perpetually wearing a full-faced mask as his solution of choice. The support and lack of overwhelming pressure did end up working out, as it gave Raphael the space to recover and grow (to the extent he could) on his own terms, and he is able to comfortably support himself. Still, even after all this time, Raphael is utterly disgusted by his face, which also makes him believe that there is absolutely no hope that anyone else ever would not be disgusted by it.

Relationships:

Cousins (second cousins) - Raphael and his family often attended family functions when he was young, where the cousins naturally banded together. As the oldest of their generation, Raphael acted almost like the big brother towards them. Raphael's attendance naturally became much spottier after his accident, and even when he did show up, he wouldn't hang out with the cousins the way they used to. While he has some positive rapport with them from when they were kids, it's been a long time since he's spent quality time with any of them.

Aunts and Uncles (first cousins once removed) - Raphael was "normal" when he was "one of the kids," and as the oldest of the cousins, he was slated to be the first to transition from the kid group to the adult group. However, the accident interrupted that process, greatly reducing the amount of interaction he had with his extended family, and making him act much colder and reserved when he saw them. As a result, he hasn't had much adult bonding time with any of them, so he doesn't particularly like them, and they probably don't feel anything special towards him.

Heinrich - Raphael likes and respects his grandfather, and while they had some nice experiences when Raphael was little, there just wasn't any room to maintain and nurture a relationship with his grandparents when trying to deal with his accident and the aftermath. I mean, if Heinrich really cared about Raphael, he could've come and helped him more after the accident, but whatever. He was his parents' problem, Heinrich didn't owe him anything.

Servants - Apathetic. Raphael doesn't expect or want anything from the world, and so sees being served on as wholly necessary, but simultaneously understands that it's their jobs. He isn't rude towards the servants, but it's personable with them either.

Spoiler: Detektive Christof Erhardt
A tall, broad-shouldered man with unkempt blonde hair in his late twenties. Det. Erhardt grew up reading mystery novels and was obsessed with the investigator protagonists, especially those in Gideon's books. He has long dreamt of being a world-renowned detective who solves crimes nobody else can, which led him to pursue a career in the police. He was only promoted to detective about a year ago, but he hasn't been assigned many cases yet due to his reputation. He was stuck as a beat cop for several years, as he has a tendency to be overly tenacious and getting in the way of investigations. He desperately seeks the approval of his colleagues, and hopes to do so by cracking an "unsolvable case", but has been disappointed thus far in the distinct solvability of most police work. He has come to Geistfable to investigate a hit-and run incident, but it seems he may be stuck longer than anticipated...

Spoiler: Relationships
Mutual distrust with Fritz, as he is the reason Erhardt is on Geistfable in the first place. Totally open to any other ideas, just let me know what you're thinking!!

It almost feels too late to make any relationships with this guy! He seems really interesting though, I was wondering how someone else would show up.

Unfortunately I can't really think of any way to connect this guy and Agnes, who's a sheltered 18 year old who lives on an island more or less. Though there's probably a lot to talk about if he was inspired by Gideon!
