*sigh...*

He turned around and looked his partner in the eye sternly.

"Did you need something, Rehg?"

Spikes stared at him for a minute or so, and then put his thumb and index finger on the bridge of his nose and replied calmly:

"No, Rehg, YOU called ME. But that's fine, I suppose coming here was a good idea anyway. I have recieved intelligence that Dana... (He glanced at the name and decided to not even try.) Dana, the actor involved in Mazeppa, can also be found here. However, I can't tell you where. The report isn't quite that precise."

She could be a teacher or a student or just a visitor for all this stupid report tells me....

"Since we're both here, why don't you see if you can find her and ask a few questions? see if she's got a legit alibi, all that mess. Got it, rookie?"

The door to the auditorium opened. A somewhat short young woman was on the other side. She did a brief double-take upon noticing Spikes's arm, but then regained her composure.

"Uh... Can I help you?" she asked.

"Yes....Yes, you can..." Spikes glanced at Rehg without turning his head.

"Good luck with our elusive tenor, rookie."

He looked back over at the new arrival and flicked his head towards the open door. They walked in and the door snapped shut, locked.

"So...I was wondering if you knew where I could find Michelle Glinkirev? I had recieved word she could be located here..."

Spikes pointed to the Prosecutor's badge on his chest.

"Because I've got questions to ask her. Unless I recieve as much info as I possibly can from anyone involved in this case, there is a good chance someone who is innocent could be given the death penalty on the spot. As it stands, not one person on this case has even SPOKEN with this woman. Miss Michelle becoming a martyr wouldn't benefit your play, now would it?"

Spikes smiled and sat down in one of the MANY metal chairs lining the auditoirum. He tapped his metal finger and cherished the beautiful sound of fear in the man's voice.

When Michelle Glinkirev saw the man's metal arm, she feared. But as a lady she was, she did not show it at all. She was also annoyed by the man's rudeness with her collegue, and the collegue's cowardy. She was annoyed as well with Liszt, her father's situation and many other things. Though, even if Phillippe Pinel saw her he would not notice. Her face was impenetrable.
Still in the back of the man, she said:
"How may I help you?"

"Yes, I am." Said Michelle, in a extremelly formal tune. She also stayed motionless, therefore, she still didn't see the man's face. For her, it was a faceless man. And this man was taking her time. That was making her angry. Of course, no one noticed. After all, her formality towards him was impecable.

"Have a seat." he pointed at the seat next to him, he was sitting in the second seat inward.

"Oh, and catch." He tossed her a mint by carelessly flicking his metallic fingers.

Michelle wasn't expecting the mint, so she wasn't able to catch. A reflex made her give a try, only to fail miserably. During a second, she wondered if that man was flerting her. After all, she was young and pretty. And the mint gave him a womanizer touch. And a lot of other "ands". Also, she didn't know who the man was. So she didn't seat. She stayed motionless.

"I'm sorry, but I don't think we were introduced before. You are...?"

"Spikes Mailliw. Prosecutor. To put it bluntly, I'm the one whos trying to prove your father belongs behind bars. I realize that that means you probably don't want to talk to me, but you need to know that the information you give me is potential evidence to save him, if he is in fact innocent."

Spikes did his best to make it look like he cared. It was tough, but apparantly he was either good at it or she was gullible, because her expression was curious. He needed cooperation, and there was something he needed to know before the trial began. He couldn't believe he had overlooked this detail, and made a mental note to slip Rehg a raise next week.

"So....let's cut to it. I hear that you have a connection with the victim in this case. Tell me about that. Also, I haven't poisoned that mint...."

"Please forgive me for the mint. I wasn't expecting to catch something mid-air.
Now, about the case... The victim in this case, as I hope you know, is Liszt. He was my boyfriend. He was also the boyfriend of my best friend, Dana. Of course this fact annoyed me when I discouvered, one month ago. We were dating for three months."

Michelle held the mint in her hand, but didn't put it in her mouth. She had been interrupted from practice, and if she had a mint in her mouth when this conversation was over, she would have to wait before returning to practice.

"At first, we were suspicious of each other, but when we both realized neither of us had been aware that he was cheating on us, we agreed not to hold a grudge over it. We're back to being good friends again. We've both been ready to forget about the whole affair, but thanks to what happened, I would think neither of use will be able to forget now."

He cracked a mint in his mouth.

"How did he how did he react when he was found out? He couldn't exactly play innocent in that situation."

"I have no idea how he felt, but when I confronted him about the matter, he handled it rather well--almost as if he knew I intended to end our relationship. I try not to hold grudges, much less show them, but I think he knew how angry I was and decided not to make things worse. Considering his romantic history, I would not be surprised if he had been in this situation many times before."

(The more I talk to her, the more I think that she's hardly got anything to do with the case at hand. Good thing, thats one less suspect for the defense.

I know that she and Lidzt broke up civilly. I hope Rehg thinks to ask Dana about her side of the argument.)

Realizing that this was becoming pointless, he slowly started dropping the care bear act.

He cracked another mint in his mouth loudly and glared.

"What part did you play? Did you have much contact with Lidzt?"

he waved his hand in apology and then gave her another mint.

"Goes well with tea or coffee. Try it at lunch."

He stood up.
