"Well than I think we definetly need Gumshoe back on the stand after this witness, as he probably still has the finshed report. Anyways for now I think we should have Officer Cartridge give his testimony."

-Discovering the Body-
-Now, I had been assigned to search for the victim, two days before the body was discovered.
-I was driving my patrol car, and as I passed the park...
-A woman flagged me down. She was obviously in shock; she could barely form a coherent sentence.
-She dragged me down to where she found the body.
-All that was visible at the time was a hand, but the body was later dug up.
-I alerted the other patrollers in the area, and within 30 minutes, the body was taken away.

"She was first reported missing by her neighbors. Apparently, she had been staying with her boyfriend, the defendant, at the time, and did not come back when she said." he shrugged. "Apparently, she normally phones them ahead to let them know. Oh, another detail. The neighbors in question did not know the defendant, aside from his name, as he never came to her home."

Snipe nodded briefly: "The neighbors in question are Mr. Marcus Chamberlain and Mr. Philip Groze. In a preliminary inquiry they both reported about a series of verbal fighting. Possibly it somehow related to Mr. Baum's grand jackpot, he won in the lottery last week."

John looked at the Prosecutor, for a moment, then chuckled. "Wrong. Those are the neighbors of the DEFENDANT. When interviewed, they claimed they DID know the defendant. I am referring to two entirely different people, who were the neighbors of the victim."
While he said this, the officer had a self-righteous smirk. If there's one thing John couldn't stand, it was cocky people. Hopefully this would bring him down an notch.

Soryuu smirked, he was starting to like this guy. Then he asked, "Officer cartridge did you happen to ask why the victim called the defendant's neighbors whenever she returned home?"

John was slightly confused by what Mr. Kaminogi had just said. Possibly a slip of the tongue.
"Well, if you mean the neighbors of the victim, then yes. It was mainly due to the fact that she had a plant she was quite fond of. It's a very high-maintentance plant, so she usually mads sure a neighbor could drop by every so often when she was out, to make sure the plant is fine. She let them know when she was leaving, and when she'd be back. But she did not return when she said she would have, and did not phone to say why. This was a couple of days before the murder."

The officer then scratched the back of his head. "I hope I didn't waste your time... I tend to ramble a bit."

Snipe released a low, mute growl for Cartridge's comment and swiftly went through 101 different ideas to get his paycheck reduced to dust. He lit up another smoke and kept himself from throwing a pencil in the middle of John's eyes.

"No. This was very informative, Officer Cartridge. Now we have a clear statement, that Mrs. Stern was away at least for two days before her own murder.

So let's draw the overall image, we have at the moment. Now although I can't prove it yet, I dare to claim, that she was at Defendant's apartment. The lottery numbers were published two days ago, 28th July approx. 1800 hours (6 pm). Defendant found out, that he had won a kaboomzillion.

But how is it possible, that 4 hours later between 10:30 and 11:00 pm, Mrs. Stern gets killed by three bullets, is buried to the ground and is found out 2 days later?

Your Honor. The defendant's neigbors are waiting in the lobby for now and I'm willing to summon them, unless the Defense wants to continue his cross-examination.

Snipe shook his head briefly: "I agree, Your Honor. I summon Detective Gumshoe back on the stand."

He looked at the Court Bailiff, who nodded and left the room to call Gumshoe. Snipe coughed and had another peek to his papers - just in case.

-The Shovel and Police Report-

-The shovel did have blood on it, pal!
-Forensics wiped it all off to make a police report about it...
-I did notice another team of investigators, however, that I didn't know of.
-I'd never seen them before, but they examined the shovel, and later on I got a report saying there was no blood on the shovel, pal.
-I have the police report saying that there WAS blood on the shovel right here.

Snipe took a peek up to the colleagues in the audience, receiving no guidance from the officers there. Then he shrugged, shaking his head: "If they would be "mine" - in other words working for the military service, if that's what you mean, there is a strong possibility, that the Army is for one reason or another investigating - but I wouldn't know about it. Of course it would be a pleasure, if you'd tell, what were the other investigators looking like, Detective."

:testimony:
-What they looked like-
Well, there were 5 of them.
4 of them just looked like regular police officers, pal.
The odd thing was, they didn't have badges except for one.
The one that DID have a badge looked just like that John guy you just had up on the stand!

Snipe nods briefly: "I see..."
He looked up in the audience again. One of the military officers had started to shake his head a bit. Snipe frowned: "By this...", he said, still looking at the colleague, but talking to Gumshoe: "...you assume, that Officer Cartridge was involved in this case?"

Soryuu shrugged, this really wasn't going anywhere so he went on to his next point of interest. "Detective Gumshoe, regarding the murder weapon, did you find out who owns the gun?"

((oops I could have sworn somewhere I saw that the gun was left at the crime scene... oh well))

Soryuu looked through the files again, looking a bit confused. Then he sighed in frustration. "Well looks like in my excitement I misread something...." He continued to page through his notes and the crime report, "Anyways Mr. Snipe, do you have any decisive evidence that my client was indeed the murderer?" He asked.

Snipe looked at Kaminogi a bit astonished, then shrugged briefly:

"The Force has been - eh - 'digging' a lot of stuff up, but nothing too decisive. A lot of facts do point at him, but - should I conclude, that there are several - bizarre - things. The unknown investigation crew, missing murder weapon... and such."

Snipe paused to drink a bit water.

"So, that's the longer version for 'no', mr. Kaminogi."

Snipe grinned. He : "Now, now, Mr. Kaminogi... You're once again pointing the wrong Colonel. No eyewitnesses - in the actual scene."

He smiled and crossed his arms.

"Before and after the event, yes."

Soryuu's eyebrow arched up and said, "If you're referring to Mr. Russle for the after I'd hardly call him an eyewitness... And as for the before I take it you're referring to the neighbors of the defendant?"

Snipe organized some papers on the desk and chuckled: "You got the bulls-eye there. Initial questionings revealed, that the Defendant and the Victim had several argues for the last week. The lottery win seemed to be the last drip. Your Honor..."

He kept an irritating pause, sighing in a melancholic way.

"... For the last - eh - one hour... We've been marching a long and gruesome path from other end to other without making any severely significant advantage. I therefore request a 15 minute recess for the sake of the audience, us honorable crime-fighters and you."

He lowered his hands on the desk, peeking at Kaminogi under his eyebrows.

Snipe lost his over-confident self for a moment, as he walked out to the Prosecution's Lobby.

"This is insane...", he muttered to Richter, "Something itches me here, wish I only knew, what it is..."

He snapped his coffeecup on the table. It was already cold, but he didn't give "#¤% to it.

"Lieutenant Richter. Any ideas, you'd recommend?"

Richter paused thoughtfully before blurting out, "Well, it would be helpful to find out exactley who the members of the forensics team were. Without that knowledge, that #^&%ing Soryuu can claim that Cartridge was part of a conspiracy. In fact, he could prove that Cartridge and some goonies commited the murder in order to convict the defendant! Then they could get somehow get the defendant's lottery money. Holy &*^&! I think I might be on to something! Better clear this &^*$ up fast!"
