Ivan entered the lobby of the Lady of Mercy Hospital, his cane occasionally tapping on the floor as he walked. He approached the receptionist.

"I need to speak to Dr. Kevin Cesca," he said, showing his badge. "Is he busy right now?"

Dr. Cesca sat at his desk, reading over the results from a follow-up examination he had performed today. Things seemed well, his patient was making a full recovery from a difficult surgery he had performed a month ago.

"The fingerprints of a skilled doctor. It seems I'm still the Miracle Scalpel, or whatever nickname those med school interns have for me these days. Of course, it's difficult now without Brooke." Brooke and Kevin always performed surgery's together. She was unlike any other new resident doctor. She had fire, passion, yet not without kindness. Truly, she was a godsend.

Kevin heard his office phone ring. Reception.

"Dr. Cesca, the police are here." She reported.

They were probably here to ask him about Brooke's trial today. He had planned to see her at the Detention Center after work, but now he could get the information.

"Send him in." He responded. Dr. Cesca filed the report away and poured a cup of tea. When his guest arrived, he would be ready.

Ivan walked into Dr. Cesca's office and approached the doctor.

"You must be Dr. Cesca," he said, extending his hand for a handshake.

"Yes indeed. Dr. Kevin Cesca." Dr. Cesca stood up to greet this new person. He shook his hand and returned to his desk. But who was this guy? Was he a member of Brooke's defense team, or was he an investigator for the police.

"And you are?"

It was the prosecution. Kevin groaned inwardly. Although he had the utmost respect for the police, they were people attempting to prove Brooke killed that man. Dr. Cesca just didn't believe that Brooke would do it. Part of him believed it, though. Part of him knew just how much Kate's death hurt Brooke.

But there was reason enough for him not to believe her. He'd known Brooke for four years, back when she started her cardio-thoracic fellowship. They weren't close friends, but spending so much time around someone taught one about them.

But his cooperation would bring out the real killer. At least, he thought it would.

"Ask away."

"Let me start by saying I've found proof that Dr. Alister isn't the only suspect--she just happens to be the person the police arrested. Anyone who entered the victim's room after the operation had the opportunity to kill him. Also, no one has a truly watertight alibi.
"On that note, I'd like to ask you what you were doing on the day of the murder."

"Certainly blunt, aren't you." Dr. Cesca returned.

"Well, after the surgery ended, Brooke and I went to start the report on his surgery. She had never done this type of procedure before. I left her about 15 minutes after that, when I went to my office. There are lots of things I needed to catch up on: some of my own reports, deciding a new intern, and my lunch, and I figured I'd stay in my office and do them. That's where I was when the victim was killed. I didn't leave the office between now and then."

"You are familiar with the effects of coniine, correct? My own sources say that it is not a fast-acting poison. Please correct me if that's not true. If it is, though, then what you were doing after the surgery might not constitute an alibi.
"I apologize if my suspicion offends you, but I don't want anything overlooked."

"It's not the fastest poison." Dr. Cesca acknowledged. "There are certainly faster options if one wished to poison. However, the victim was under anesthesia at the time. Slow or fast, a poison would do it's work if the victim couldn't resist."

Dr. Cesca found himself annoyed with this prosecutor. He figured their initial investigation steered them to Brooke, now they were looking at other options. Couldn't they have done that before the trial started. At least if someone was under investigation and not under arrest, Brooke could still be here to perform surgeries. With Brooke unavailable, he was on call for a lot of the emergency cases. And in a city, there was always some emergency to be had. There was always some druggie, some vindictive person looking to settle a score, or some idiot who caused an accident.

"Hmph. An accident." Dr. Cesca internalized. But the thought quickly disappeared from his head.

"I apologize if this isn't making your job easier."

"Unfortunately, I do not entertain in my office much. Brooke can vouch for me those first 15 minutes, and I can vouch for her. That's it, though. As for evidence, I wouldn't know what that means. I'm not a lawman, myself. I could show you the reports I wrote, but they don't prove when I did them."

"Having access to police records, I can imagine you would. However, there would be no reason for me to answer any questions regarding that case. It is not related to the case at hand." Dr. Cesca did not plead ignorance, he knew what this man was going at. However, that didn't mean Dr. Cesca had to indulge him.

"Actually, it was brought up in court today as related to Dr. Alister's motive, so it can no longer be considered unrelated. Given your connection, you could also have had a motive. I apologize if my suspicions are misguided, but the report proves that Dr. Alister is not the only person who had a motive to kill Mr. Woodward.
"Do you have any memories of that disaster? The report is rather vague, and you're the only person involved who's still alive."

"If I'm not mistaken, your case against Brooke isn't related to motive alone. Otherwise, she would still be here performing the surgeries she is so skilled with. Thus, although you have the possibility of a motive, it isn't necessarily true that this was anyone's motive to kill. At least, it has not been proven. The doctor who operated no longer practices medicine; all of his files passed to me. Under HIPPA legislation, I cannot release this information to the courts until a link has been substantiated and proven." Dr. Cesca evaded. This prosecutor was determined to strongarm him.

"As for the accident, I wasn't operating that day. Even we doctors need our vacation days. Gail was in that day, but she is not allowed to speak of these things either. I apologize if I seem evasive or uncooperative, but too many laws have been broken in this hospital recently."

(Sorry for not being around, guys :larry:)

Brooke was sitting in the Detention Center, wondering about how the trial went on today. I hope Phoenix or that science girl will show up... she thought as she sighed and stared outside the window, the cool air breezing into the Detention Center, making her sigh in relief. Then, she saw the science girl who she believed was Ema, and Ivan, the prosecution's aid at the trial yesterday. "You can ask me any questions you want." she told Ivan, and turned to face Ema. "Um, the pedestrian who was in a coma before because of my sister's accident-he's alive. That prosecutor is playing tricks with your mind! He is alive!" Brooke shouted, then regained her senses as she apologized for being loud to the guard.

"Why not?! My sister's accident is entirley related to this case; my sister's accident is even what you used as my "motive", you stupid prosecutors!" Brooke screamed at Ivan. Then she quickly covered her mouth and turned around, feeling bad for saying something so mean to the prosecutor's aid, who also clearly wanted to discover the truth.

"The issue is proof," Ivan said calmly. He had interrogated some of the most hardened criminals around; a scared doctor whose guilt he was not fully convinced of hardly fazed him. "Though that is the apparent motive, it has yet to be established that you indeed harbored a wish to kill the victim. All the prosecution established was that you had what some would consider to be a 'reason.'
"However, there is another issue with him that concerns me: his alibi. You know who the pedestrian is, right?"

"Sorry...I have forgotten his name." Brooke said, feeling ashamed she couldn't even remember the pedestrian's name. "All I know is that he was involved in my sister's car accident..." Brooke let her voice fade away as she tried to forget about that car accident in which she lost her sister.

(Sorry for SP, I need to what for Sir Ivan :P)

"Very well," Ivan said. No need to make her suspect someone he wasn't completely sure of. "That pedestrian could have had a motive, given that he almost died in that accident. However, for now, let's look at another issue: opportunity.

"Um, I was supposed to operate on him, I think. But Kevin was operating too...I think. Sorry, I have bad memory." Brooke blushed. Why can't you remember anything, Brooke? she thought to herself as she sat in the Detention Center, feeling cold and alone.

Unfortunately, it seems that this case is no longer operational. Sorry, folks.

I've got a draft of a new one. I'll write it up and get it started shortly. Thanks, ya'll, for sticking around. If you wanted to know how it ended, shoot me a message. Be happy to tell ya.
