Standing at the proper bench, a gray-haired man nodded his head, his arms crossed over his chest. "The prosecution is ready, Your Honor." stated Sebastian Best, peering over at the defense at the other side of the room. Honestly, did the defendant think he stood a chance? It was almost enough to make him scoff.

Linda stood in the prosecution lobby, waiting to be called at any time.

(Who's defense? If he doesn't show up in a while, we need a substitute.)

(:DDD But who is going to be defense now? I can't, because I can't cross-examine myself, lol. Maybe we should get someone else to stand in for TailsBell, and when he comes, just pass the baton to him.)

Shannon, sweating nervously with her hands pressed together so tightly it looked like her knuckles were about to turn white. Over and over, she kept thinking to herself. Big brother, please be OK. I know you're innocent. Intently, she stared at the courthouse floor. Shannon was dressed very nicely in a white blouse and tan skirt, her brown hair combed neatly, unlike her usual devil-may-care rolled-out-of-bed looks.

Kenny, sweating and trying to cover his fear was waiting in the Defendants Lobby for his Defense Attorney to arrive... 'Relax Kenny, Relax take it easy, nothing to worry about, your Defense will be here any minute' he kept saying to himself, after the time elapsed he started to see the bailif and his team running around looking for the missing Defense Attorney... This time Kenny really started to worry. 'What if he doesn't show up, what if he thinks I did do it and thought he wouldn't stand a chance, but... I didn't do it!' after another minute elapsed Kenny sort of lost it and shouted unwillingly 'I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING' after that he passed out.

Bobby on the couch in the Prosecution lobby, one shoe off. He was killing time by picking the lint off of his socks.
I wish there was a copy of TIME or some other good magazine to read here, he thought. Waiting to be called to the stand was boring. He'd rather be back in detention. At least there he had a few things to do.

Jett walked into the defendant's room. Jett was holding a picture and then looked at Kenny.

"You must be Kenny Stevens, I prosume." Jett said.

Jett put out his hand

"I'm Jett Peters....youre defense attorney........" he said.

He took out his hairbrush

"Am I late???" he said.

Kenny still recovering from his outburst, walked slowly to the defendants chair and sat down. 'This is isn't so bad' he thought to himself.

Shannon breathed a big sigh of relief. Kenny looked alright, which meant that everything was going to be alright. She knew she had to keep quiet, so she settled instead for concentrating on sending all of her positive energy his way. After all, he looked calm enough even though she was being torn up inside.

The second Shannon shall the lawyer's cavalier approach, her heart sunk. We're doomed... She was going to give him a piece of her mind, treating her brother like that. Desperately trying not to show her gloominess and failing miserably, she resigned herself to waiting so she could prove Kenny innocent.

Sebastian just about nearly burst out laughing. Was this guy for real. He concealed his laughter behind a couch, placing his hand in front of his mouth. "It's...nice to see you've arrived, Mr.Peters." he said, uppity.

(C'mon Mr.Trite! Get online already!)

Linda huffed as she reached into her bag and pulled out a laptop. She opened it up and began surfing the net, playing little games on a website she had discovered a few days ago.

(( Hey! D: I have school and stuff to go to, sorry! ;~;
Also, since the date of the murder was never given, I'm just going to to with two days before the trial. Is that coo?))

Sebastian nodded, fully confident. He had been working on everything- Including his opening statement- Until about three in the morning. Which was normal, in any case. "Very well, Your Honor." he said. Sebastian then cleared his throat.
"On the night of July 20th, the police received a call from a woman. She quite frantically explained that she had found the body of forty-six year old Catherine Richards, whom had been murdered in her home.
The detectives that arrived at the scene of the crime discovered hair samples on the victims bed belonging to the defendant, twenty-two year old Kenny Stevens, along with a custom-made baseball cap belonging to him. The police wasted no time in arresting the man, who now sits before you. The prosecution will now provide the witnesses, evidence, and testimony you will need to find this man guilty of all charges."

Jett listened to the statement

"A woman called.........who is the woman that called........also the hat was not taken which was custom-made..........its not ordinary to not take a custom hat.......also the hair........from what Kenny told in his statement.....the hair is from sex..........also his wallet was stolen which was in the hat....." he thought

He pondered a little more.

"If the wallet was in the hat.....why wasn't the hat stolen......this is no ordinary robbery...........or murdur.....there is something fishy here." he thought

"Excuse me your honor..........can we cross-examine this statement...I got a few questions to ask." Jett said.

Shannon's mood kept slipping lower and lower. She had taken a few law classes in school, and this rookie was going to doom her brother. Cross-examining an opening statement? Was he for serious? Her brother's life was at stake and he was being 'aided' by this incompetent rookie? She started visibly sulking, praying that her testimony would be enough to solve the case.

Sebastian scoffed. "Your Honor, I ask that you deny the defense's request." He shrugged his shoulders, a smirk on his face, "I've said nothing wrong in my opening testimony, nor any matter of opinion, just the cold, hard facts." Behind his black-rimmed, square glasses, the prosecutor peered over at the defense. "I suggest you learn when to strike, rookie, if you ever want to beat me." he advised.

Jett smiled

"Your cold hard facts are kinda............shady.........you have some questionable stuff there.....why dont we bring in a detective to give us some evidence or facts........" Jett said.

Jett pondered

"The statement is shady.......an unknown person called............a woman.......I need to know who that woman was. THis is a great ice breaker but not enought to crack through it completely....................wait a minute..............Kenny's custom hat......left at the crime..........thats even a mistake that an idiot wont make......sounds like a set-up.......Kenny's hat at the crime but his wallet gone.......wait....when did they get home......there is too much missing from the opening statement.......just one thing.......where is the wallet........a hat with a wallet but then gone....but the hat remains......this is too strange.......if there is a struggle and the hat fell off...why wouldn't he take it....." Jett thought.

"Your Honor.....clearly the opening statement needs some back-up......why dont we call up a detective working on the case to second this statment proclaimed by this prosecutor......." Jett said.

Jett smirked.

"All right....Jett is up at the plate.....he takes his bat and makes some practice swings.....then he comes the pitch..." he thought.

From behind the glasses rested on the bridge of his nose, Sebastian Best glared at the younger defense attorney, but showed no bitterness in his voice as he spoke. "Well, Mr.Peters, I was actually waiting for the man in the chair to make that decision, but since you feel like playing Your Honor today, I guess I have no problem with that. It's your funeral, after all. " The thirty-year old then looked up to the judge, his arms crossed. "Shall I bring out the first witness?" he asked.

"Order, order. Mr. Jett, perhaps you'd best wait until cross-examination to question the testimony of the witnesses. Let's let the investigation results come forward first. Mr. Best, would you care to call the first witness?"

With a nod, Sebastian resisted the urge to smirk at the younger defense attorney standing perpendicular to him. "Of course, Your Honor." The prosecution then eyed the woman detective icily. Some people, they just didn't have any patience. "The prosecution would like to call Miss Linda Conners to the stand." Sebastian practically spat.

[ No problem, Gavineer. The only one you'll have to worry about is Sebastian. xD ]

Kenny fearing for the worst sat in the defendants chair trying to kill the time, he knew of no way to do that however.

(Can I ask, that when I'm like needed to talk that I get Pm'd on here? I'm kinda having issues with my parents over weekdays and internet, which basicly means my internet is cut of during weekdays, I can come online almost once a day but not for to long, thanks.)

Linda happily stuffed her supplies into her bag and walked to the witness stand. "Hi everyone! The name is Linda Connors. I'm a detective in criminal affairs." she said. Linda turned to Sebastain. "You could have at least called me a little nicer, kid!" she scoffed as she turned around and smiled. "I'm going to testify about the basic facts of the case."

:testimony:
--Basic Facts--
"The crime was reported at 3 AM. Catherine Richards, our victim, was found dead in her home. The cause of death was asphyxiation and blood loss by a single stab in her throat."

"The person who reported the crime was Catherine's maid, who had an alibi at the time of the murder. She claims that the victim had plans to go drinking with an old friend, Bobby Hereford, at 9. The autospy places the time of death between 11 PM and 12:15 AM."

"Evidence places only two people at the house at the time of the murder. The victim herself, and, naturally, the defendant. The defendant was the victim's lover, so it shouldn't be surprising if he was there."

"Even the testimony of Bobby states that he dropped Catherine off at around midnight and then seeing the defendant escorting the victim inside. That places him at the crime scene."

--END--

"Those are the basic facts. You cross-examine that first, lawyer, and then I'll get detailed."

(Sorry if I had to go on more, because it would be a pretty long testimony.)
