I chose Guilty because it was the right thing to do. Yes, Maya would have died, but she said I should pick guilty, so I did.
If I chose Not Guilty, a killer would have been freed and an innocent woman would have gone to jail (and probably would have died).

Also, the title of the game says "Justice for All", and that's what the Guilty verdict is. Justice.

I chose both if I remember correctly.

But Guilty was what I chose first.

Guilty, for reasons stated above. Even though it killed me to sign Maya's figurative death warrant, it was true justice. To let a killer walk free would be wrong.

And then I realized it didn't make a difference, and was ecstatic.

I chose Guilty. I had deeply thought about it before I chose (I wasn't aware the outcome is the same when it was asked at the end) and it seemed like that right thing to do. Maya even said she wanted to get a guilty verdict for Matt, so at least I could fulfill her last wish.

And as mentioned, Adrian would have been sent to jail as well. It just seemed to bring more justice if "Guilty" was chosen.

I chose Not Guilty. And then I felt terrible, because I was condemning Adrian and letting a killer walk free.
But it was to save Maya...then I found out it didn't matter. -_-'

Guilty.

If the miracle never happen, with a guilty verdict,
Spoiler:
Maya dies and Engarde gets the death penalty.

With a not guilty verdict,
Spoiler:
Adrian gets the death penalty and Engarde is walking on the streets.

"Better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer". Blackstone, Commentaries, pg. 358. However, in this case, either way,
Spoiler:
an innocent person dies. So that doesn't apply here. So the question is, do you sacrifice Maya and bring Engarde to justice, or do you sacrifice Adrian, and let a killer loose? For me, I chose the second.

This is why I enjoyed 2-4 the best. you are given an actual, human choice, and neither of your options are optimal. And I agree it says a lot about you. What is your first duty? Is it to your client, who has his money, liberty, or even life in your hands, or is it to Justice with a Capital J, serving the greater good of society?

How far a defense attorney should go in representing a guilty client is a great matter of debate in legal and philisophical circles. When I take ethics, I'll let you know what the "official" word is. Personally, I wouldn't turn away a guilty client, but I would have extreme difficulty entering a "not guilty" plea when I know otherwise.

It was two years ago that the game came out in the US, if I'm not mistaken, correct? That was the first time I played the game. Recently I replayed it and chose "guilty," but the first time I'm pretty sure I chose "Not guilty." I can't quite remember though.

Heheheheheheheheh, Matt SOOOOOO got what he deserved. :edgy:

Spoiler:
I said guilty the first time. I tried to save right when the question came up, but it wouldn't let me. XD I didn't want Matt to be free or Adrian to be in jail, and I knew somehow Maya would be okay, so I chose guilty.

I don't know what I was on when I wrote my first post in this thread (crack maybe?), but if you're not willing to look for it, I chose

GUILTY AS ALL HECK!!

I would NEVER represent someone if they up and confessed their guilt (unless they plead it as well)! If I ever become a lawyer (which I doubt because I don't think I'd be able to handle that much paperwork), I'd ask my client to tell me their plea and that's it. An innocent client could plead guilty if they didn't have faith in my skills, and a guilty client could plead not guilty to protect their own ass.

However, if they do plead guilty...
Spoiler:
I'd call them to the stand anyway and have them testify as to how they did it! Then, I'd look for contradictions. If I find a decisive one, I might consider taking a chance and changing the plea!

Spoiler: What I chose
Guilty. As painful as Maya's death would be, I know ultimately she would want him to pay for his crimes. Although none of it matters, since it all works out in the end.

But why would she get a trial if Matt is declared guilty in the end? Was there some other crime she did?

She tampered with the crime scene to make it look like Matt did it, instead of de Killer, remember?

Anyway, I failed at that part where you're supposed to present to Edgeworth your last hope for the extra evidence or whatever, so I completely wasn't expecting Franziska to jump in.

When I first learned about Adrian's past and condition, I told myself (as Phoenix, since I guess while I play he's a part of me) "I have to protect her from all the bad things in the world." It was bad enough having to try to force the blame on her to stall for time, but I had to move the story along. I considered getting the "Not Guilty" just because then Matt could be brutally murdered by de Killer for what he did to Celeste and ultimately Adrian, but it wasn't worth losing dear Adrian. :adrian: So, I chose GUILTY.

I chose "guilty".
Matt was a horrible person, and even though Maya would have died (that's what Pearl's for)
I also couldn't accept a Not Guilty because of all the help Edgeworth had given (wow... I have sentiments for video game characters. O.o
And with Edgeworth's "change" I felt that Phoenix should change his methods as well.

They should tar and feather Engarde.

GUILTY: An innocent woman dies, a killer goes to jail.
NOT GUILTY: An innocent woman dies, a killer is set free.

So what's better: A killer goes to jail or a killer is set free?

Actually, bear in mind that the guilty verdict causes a close friend to die, rather than a random innocent.

Not Guilty: Adrian Andrews is mistried and found guilty, leading to her death and the release of a guilty man.

Guilty: Justice is served, but Maya dies.

Since Maya gets on my nerves sometimes, and because the first option is less desirable to a lawyer, I chose the second.

A lawyer with ethics is a also going to be a failure.
A defense attorney (if hired by the state, at least) has no choice but to get his client off the hook. (He can't simply "drop" the case).

And anyway, the game completely misrepresents what could happen. Maybe, Phoenix would take Adrian's case after the fact. And the funny thing is, when De Killer testifys, against Adrian, you can still get Matt found guilty :adrian:

I was warned beforehand that the case had multiple endings (and no more details. Thank you, non-spoiler friend), so I saved and chose both. I guess I chose "Not Guilty" first, deducing this would be a "bad" ending and in the end a "Guilty" veredict could be possible without killing Maya.

But if I didn't knew about the multiple endings I'd plea "Guilty" right away. I was so damn mad at Engarde I couldn't help it D:
(Not that this is possible in real life, attorneys can't go against their clients, Phoenix could even be sued. I got really confused at this part, thinking about it now.)

He could've kept his whisky in a glass on the detention center desk below the window or on the stand desk.

And I deliberately tried to keep it ambiguous to my friend, I told him about the multiple endings but didn't tell him what they were or where they came.

Just so that when he came to the Guilty or not guilty decision it might make him sweat a little more
