I know, I know, it first popped up in JFA, but hear me out. I've got a fun little theory, full of holes as it may be pointed out to be.

So as we all know, Maya gave Phoenix her magatama back in 2-2... But that magatama is green, both charged and uncharged. The magatama Maya wears is beige/orange/some color around there. Not to mention, she's still wearing it while the Magatama is in Phoenix's possession. I haven't heard or seen any other Fey with more than one magatama, let alone more than one color of magatama, so... Where'd Maya get the spare?

Reason why I posted this topic in Hazakurain instead of Kurain is because I think it used to belong to Dahlia.

Think about it: the Feys are the only ones who care enough about the magatama to have one of their own accord, even if outsiders (*cough*Ini/Mimi*cough*) know about them. Dahlia, Morgan, and Misty are the only Feys depicted without a magatama. Of those three, I think we can automatically cross out Misty; she was channeling Dahlia at the time of her death, and Channeled!Dahlia was depicted as wearing a magatama:



I'm pretty sure we can cross out Morgan, too; if she wants to be Master (or have Pearl be Master) of Kurain so badly, why would she give away her magatama to the one standing in her way?

That leaves Dahlia's magatama. Considering Iris has a magatama, I don't think it would be too far-fetched to say Dahlia had one, too, at some point, but stopped wearing it by 3-4. And she doesn't appear to be wearing it during the flashback stills, either.

So, here's my thoughts: Dahlia left her magatama in Kurain before leaving. Whether she went out of her way to give it to someone or just left it lying around somewhere, eventually it somehow wound up in Maya's possession. As it was a different color than the one Maya already wore, she had no apparent use for it, and therefore was able to lend it to Phoenix and subsequently let him keep it without needing to ask for it back.

What do you guys think? Plausible?

I hadn't considered that. I don't know if the designers considered it, either, but I don't see any contradictions between your theory and what we know of the official canon.

Possible, but while we never see another Fey with multiple magatamas, no "ONLY ONE MAGATAMA PER PERSON" rule is ever stated or implied, is it?

I kinda assumed those things were just lying around Kurain village. Like people will have their own personal ones but I assumed she'd just went into storage grabbed a spare and handed it to him. I mean you seem them used for decoration in some places.

My headcanon says it's Misty's. Considering Mia smiled when we presented the green one to her and told Phoenix to take care of it...
Channelled Dahlia had Iris's magatama as far as I know.

According to the picture of little Mia and Maya repairing the vase (called AceVaseDestroyer btw haha) she totally had one of her own then.

If I remember correctly, Maya was arrested immediately after "channeling" Mimi, and gave Phoenix the magatama from the detention center... When would she have had the opportunity to grab a spare?



... Maybe she was amused by the notion that Phoenix's ex was indirectly helping him after trying to kill him?



While Maya was channeling her, I'd say definitely; her magatama as Dahlia left her body was purple. But I don't remember seeing the magatama's color while Misty was still channeling her. I say that one really was Misty's, since Dahlia was seen at the Inner Temple while Iris was ringing the bell at the main hall, and she had hers then.

She could have grabbed it at anytime before she got arrested. She was living there beforehand after all.

Why would she feel the need to grab an extra magatama, then, if she wasn't already carrying it around for one reason or another? And besides, she was carrying it around of her own accord, long enough for even Morgan to think it was hers:



Plus, this (which I only just now remembered...)

and another line where Pearl and/or Maya (don't remember which) chew Phoenix out for losing the Magatama lead me to think there wouldn't be random magatamas lying around for her to take and give away. At least, not many.

Perhaps she had always planned to give it to Phoenix and so had gotten another one. It would still be Maya's magatama as far as Morgan would know unless she told her of the plan to gift it to Phoenix. Also from that 'heirloom' line I took it more to mean a symbol rather than that individual one since you see magatamas everywhere in the Fey family.

I still stand by my headcanon it's Misty's magatama and Maya simply kept her own and her mother's one as a good luck charm. The word "heirloom" also seems to be fitting here.
