Tonight could be exciting. Or it could be a dud. In any case, preTGS Famitsu is a week from now, and the issue before that is today. So brace for impact. I don't anticipate learning anything more about GS5 or the PW: Trilogy, but Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney is not out of the question.

I still need to buy my 3DS, so keeping my fingers crossed for an announcement of a Professor Layton vs. Gyakuten Saiban branded 3DS LL :3

Would be awesome but uncertain of whether the game has enough mainstream appeal to warrant that.

For the record, Famitsu confirms PLvsAA will be in this issue, but it's marked under "other titles", not (rough translation) "Critical Scoops and Latest Information". So it probably doesn't have a huge article.

Either that or it will just stay in Japan, kind of like the Gyakuten Kenji DSi.

Hmm, I wonder what else we'll find out about PLvsAA, I hope we get to see more art or new screenshots from the animated cutscenes.

I wonder if they updated the graphics. GS5 looks a lot better, but PLvsAA looked just "ok" in the first screenshots.

Yeah the GS5 graphics look a lot sharper, but the thing with early screenshots involving 3D models, they tend to look a lot better than the end result, possibly because the game hasn't made it outside the software dev tools stage and were rendered on a computer, rather from a native 3DS, once we see screenshots from the actual hardware itself we'll probably notice a bit more jaggies. Though I will say that from what I've seen the PLvsAA models don't look as expressive as the GS5 ones.

I'd disagree.

If it's a game made with stereoscopic 3D it looks at it's best in that situation. I've seen my fair share of 3D graphics on my own and they look just beautiful. Screenshots can't really emulate that so I imagine it'd look even better on hardware.

I'm more worried about the character movements than the actual look. At least for GS5 they need to make them fast-paced enough to be a lot like the sprites. If they make them go the same speed as a lot of other 3D characters it will be like everyone is on Benadryl. This would especially be a problem in the courtroom during the "Pursuit" climax parts.

Oh right silly 3D, forgot about that. It does make things look a bit nicer, but I tend to turn it off.

I hope there will be an option for that in both PLvsAA and GS5, when I use just the slider to turn it off it only seems to make things blurry, but in Super Street Fighter 4-3D, if you turn off the 3D option in the game menu the FPS goes up a pitch. It grinds my gears when I play a 3DS game that has a low FPS rate and doesn't have the option to turn off the 3D effect. <:C

Oh I just meant polygon-based, realtime games in general. Because the sprites just cut to new poses as opposed to moving, everything is pretty fast, and I just wonder if it will feel slow if the characters actually move now.

But you bring up a good point about the fps. Newer 3d games dont seem to have the problem the early ones did.

One site is saying the game's 11/29 release date is confirmed, but it doesn't have anything else.

Update: This is bouncing around a few blogs now. Looks like that might be the only PLvsAA thing in the mag.

At least that means that's probably the release date, then. I wonder if we'll get this before GS5 over here (assuming GS5 has a spring 2013 Japanese release.) For some reason the Layton games need to have a longer localization then AA. Anyone know why that is?

Layton games are more dialogue heave than the AA franchise. Other than that, they have to carefully translate and localize the puzzles and put the voice-actors to work.

That makes sense. Although I'm surprised about Layton having more dialogue than AA. From what I've played written text occurs less frequently than AA since AA has dialogue on almost every screen. Although the puzzle screens have all that text so I guess that makes sense.

Still, it will be interesting if we do get GS5 before PLvsAA. I just hope it gets as big an audience. (Although maybe having GS5 already released will be beneficial in that Layton fans looking to play can have instant gratification rather than having to wait and possibly forget about it.)

Looks better is one thing, but PW/PL promises a nice gameplay variation and twists on cross examination...

They both have pretty great points about them - each game deserves our attention and releasing in the west.

GS5 should look better, seeing as how they already established and domain the engine used for PLvPW.
