However, there appears to be a bug that completely destroys its usefulness: instead of directing the browser to the specified post, it sends them to the top of the next page of the thread.
For example, here's a post I want to get to:
"Broken" link to post.
There is a workaround for this, however it is inconvenient and inefficient: using a "starting post" link by calculating the reply # of the post you want to link.
"Working" link to post.

Posts right at the beginning or end of certain pages are hopping from one page to a page right next to it. I think the paging system is bugged and is the root cause of all the 500 errors I've been receiving recently. Chances are both my problem and Bee's problem are linked.
EDIT: Whilst posting this, I got a 500 error again. The thread hasn't been bumped by this post. Perhaps the issue is something to do with post timestamps?

I've cleared my cache now in case that helped. One odd thing I've noticed is that now, all the images are reloading every time I refresh the page. This is probably nuking everyone's bandwidth including CR's. :/
On the plus side, site performance has shot back up and the 500s have all-but-vanished.
