Before I say what it is, I am not pm-ing this to an administrator becuase there is a possibility that it could be a coincidence.
Please reply to say wether or not you think this is a coincidence or a problem.
There is a bot on CR that has posted porn in the Press Conference Forum.
And there is also a user saying that he/she is being spammed by a porn website that they've never seen before.
This is kind of worrying. Is there a possibility someone hacked the CR database or something?
And sorry if this is really stupid or something. I was born a worry-wort.
Sorry if I wasted someone's time with this!

We've been having a problem with these bots for some time now. The only thing you can really do is report them using the report function. There is not need to reply to them.

Some of the bots post links to questionable material and others post explicit images. Just report all of them that you see and they will be taken care of.

This is an ongoing problem, one that plagues all forums though some more than others. It's not an issue of the database being hacked or anything of the sort.

Of course, the Mods can't be on 24/7 to catch and ban the bots, so simply reporting the offending post and ignoring the bot is the best course of action. Do not respond to their threads, as that is both useless and annoying because it bumps their threads to the top of the page. It helps if you don't quote them, either.

Yes, this is getting worrying. I mean, CR got to over 9000 users thanks to this spambots, and that is not good at all. We should have better security measures, really. This is REALLY starting to worry me, we are having around 10 spambot attacks a week, at this pace, there will be more spambot "members" than actual members.

Make a thing where you can't start a thread until posting once or twice in another. It worked on another forum.

I think someone mentioned earlier that one possible way to stop spam accounts is to make some kind of test when you register that only a human could answer correctly, like what do you see in this picture? Or something like that. :yuusaku:

Yes, like to sign up and make a account on CR you have to type in the letters on a pic - that's what other forums have done to get rid of spambots and stuff

The owner of a site that I'm staffed on thought up a simpler idea; just have a mandatory field they have to fill out that's a simple math problem. This weeds out idiots and spam bots at the same time!

Doesn't stop human spammers though.

Just make it so that every first post a user makes has to be reviewed before it can be posted.

We don't get human spammers that often to be honest, and reviewing of 1st posts seems rather unnecessary in my opinion.
Anyways, I'm all for profile creation having one of those tests.

If this was the real version, would it be better to not say the character's names to prevent the human spambots from registering as well? Or would that be pointless since they could probably look up the character's name?

Some forums employ the questionnaire "whats 1+1" or something like that.

Also banning IPs and usernames help.

On the CAD forums you can't post a link until you have 15 posts, and you can't post an image until you have 45. However, a lot of new users find that annoying.

Lol, am I the only one who found it funny that it says in small print, "If you are visually impaired, please contact the Board Administrater"?
Sorry, bad joke :sadshoe:

Anyhow, that looks like a neat idea. I'd keep the words on the images, though. What if someone who hadn't played certain games gets a character name he/she doesn't recognize?

I would be satisfied with just some sort of confirmation code or math problem as suggested to keep the bots out.

The suggestion of rating user's first post that was posted earlier is good in theory, but what happens if nobody sees that first post, or if there happen to be a lot of jerks that would give it a bad rating because that person is new? Of course for the second problem that could just be something for the staff to do :P
