Users below 50 posts shoudn't be allowed to make topics, because i frequently see newbies making duplicate threads or 2-3 threads at once with very general/boring threads, such as "where do you live" or "Whats your favorite console".

I would disagree with object that, some lurker could have an important announcement to make. If someone somehow comes up with the release date of GK in the US long before anybody else, that person should be able to open a thread for it, I think it would be worthwile.

Or maybe apply you rule to some of the forums, but not all of them?

Anyway, it will surely generate quick floods by newbies willing to open a thread, and out-of-context posts by newbies who can't open the relevant thread.

Besides, 50 is quite a lot of posts.

I know I am a newbie myself, but I have an opinion.

(I wonder if someone already made your suggestion before, that would be quite ironic)

i agree with doc justice. what about the threads were you introduce yourself?
and what about people who come on here all the time but just dont post much?
limitations like that as soon as you join would be kinda offputting, dont cha think?
that is all.

First the ten word rule, now this...
How about I post a topic saying posting topics saying this or that shouldn't be allowed shouldn't be allowed? (I love making sense)
Seriously though, I'm not sure this is a good idea.
As the others said:
- topics where you introduce yourself are important, they help new members feel like they're part of the forum
- if a "newbie" has an announcement to make, or has created brilliant sprites / comics / games, or simply has a good topic idea, he should be allowed to post one.
- this rule would generate flood

If you guys have any experience with phpBB, you can set member permissions. E.g you can allow members to make topics anywhere except Bar Exam etc. It should be that newbies can only create topics at Press Conference. I can give you evidence of "useless" topics.

police-station/pokemon-ranger-shadows-almia-t14807.html Wrong Section + "Copy and Paste"
police-station/top-ten-favorite-games-t12532.html Almost requires no discussion at all
wright-law-offices/photoshop-gallery-t14816.html Wrong Section
wright-law-offices/rules-life-love-and-the-internet-t14801.html Locked before it even started.
police-station/game-music-t14721.html Duplicate
police-station/list-your-collection-t105.html Another topic that almost requires no discussion.
prosecutor-lobby/website-updated-t14626.html Doesn't Read stickies
prosecutor-lobby/dsi-gyakuten-kenji-style-strong-strong-t14690.html Doesn't Read Stickies
prosecutor-lobby/has-anyone-translated-the-demo-yet-t14422.html Too lazy to search CR

Some people have 3000 posts on CR. 50 is minute... if you think thats alot, on facepunch, some people have 22k posts.
How would it generate flood? Most people employ flood control you know.
I think this should be applied to Police Station, Global Studios, Wright and Co Offices, GS5 and Prosecuter's Lobby, Court-room lobby and all it's subforums.
For all of the fan-stuff forums, it should be 10 posts.
I didn't introduce myself to CR :gant:

This is a forum. Of course you'll find examples of useless topics...
A more flexible rule would indeed solve some of the problems mentioned above, but I still think no rule at all is even better.
Here's my point. A "newbie", like any other member, can post a good or a bad topic. If he posts a good topic, no one's complaining. If he posts a bad topic, it will be locked - end of story. Moderators are always better than an automatic rule, because they know how to adapt to situations. A rule like this one assumes that every new member is either an idiot or a troll before they even get the chance to post. Moderators, on the other hand, can easily eliminate trolls and deal with idiots after they've made fool out of themselves while the other new members can post just like everyone else. That way, everyone gets the same treatment.
There is no such thing as "preventing crime" on a forum, because there isn't any crime to begin with. Forums are meant to be a pastime. Let everyone have their fun, and get rid of those who ruin the party =)

I have a suggestion: Can we limit the amount of tpoics that newbies can make? It's unfair to not let them make any at all because there may be someone who comes up with good topics but can't because they are newbies.

Don't think phpBB supports the amount of topics you can make. But those examples i have shown, they are all recent and all by people below 100 posts.

1. People with high post counts can still post useless topics.
2. The mods are pretty good at getting rid of said topics.
3. The amount of posts does not indicate how new the person is.

Well once you get alot of posts = expereince you get to know CR more and what is tolerated etc. I've seen alot of threads that just sound like post-increase threads that require no discussion.
Also some threads the mods (mostly Tinker) don't catch on, such as "wich country are you from" (typo intended)

Goddamn survey threads.

Bots still post within threads too.

And like others have said, I've seen long-time members post just as randomly and nonsensically as new people.

Because AA is a DS game we do get a lot of younger members on this forum, which is to be expected. We discipline as best we can by locking pointless or duplicate threads where we find them. But in general I don't like the idea of making users go through hoops to be able to post a topic they want.

If you see "noob threads" please just report them (using the little purple *!*) so we can handle them appropriately.

OBJECTION!!!

Lemme see so....what would be the point of newbies being on the forums if they can't post new threads? Posting in other people's threads until they get 50 posts? Then there'll be complaints on "spamming". *calm tone down more* I wasn't trying to sound arrogant but that would be unfair on newbies even though I do agree with some duplicated threads made. I might agree if there were even restrictions like "newbies could post 1 or 2 threads per ______" whatever it so may be but making it 50 posts just to make a new thread isn't going to solve any problem. It'll evidentally make a new one. If there are duplicated threads and whatnot, let a mod know and let them decide what to do with it, not turn the forums into a non "newbie-friendly" place by restricting them to only post in other people's posts.

Doesn't look like that ban will happen, even Croik seems to disagree with the OP. Plus 50 posts is nothing, with al the crazy fun gong on here. Hell I'm still a newb too.
