...And not to be outdone by Famitsu, the official Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney site has been updated!

Some choice tidbits:

  • Introductions for Jordalla and the Story Teller (see the previous topic for more detailed info; Jordalla's might be considered spoilerish if you've been following the demos, while the Story Teller's is nothing new).
  • New kinds of puzzles; one has Luke and Maya solving a stained-glass puzzle together, while one has Phoenix facing off against a rather pirate-looking bartender.
  • A gameplay video for Layton's side of the game!

We're really in the home stretch now!

As always I really love the art design of the game. The characters look terrific!

They really made it obvious that Jordalla is supposed to be evil, but I am pretty sure there is much more to her character than meets the eye.

Well, the Layton series have yet to give us a story with a pure evil villain. We have quite a few tragic stories.

Looks like this puzzle is based on the Four-color theorem. I had it solved in my head in about a minute. :yogi: (Unless there's another objective to the solution, because the pieces on the top screen don't match those on the bottom screen which might be important.)

So, i don't know if anyone else noticed this, but regarding the soundtrack CD, it appears there are only 5 themes listed. Apart from 1 being the theme of Layton VS GS, does anybody know what the other 4 are?

Whoa, totally missed that. I saw something similar on 2ch but thought it was speculation.

1. THE OPENING THEME OF "PROFESSOR LAYTON VS GYAKUTEN SAIBAN"
2. Puzzles 6 ~ Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney Arrange Ver.
3. Tension ~ Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney Arrange Ver.
4. The Courtoom's Magician
5. Pursuit ~ Casting Magic ~ [see Ash's post below].

Ah, thanks Ash. One of those phrases I just plain old didn't know.

...Though looking at Jisho again I see "to put an effect (spell, anaesthetic, etc.) on" as a possible meaning of kakeru. Dunno how I missed that. And googling the phrase gives similar results. Welp. :yogi:

What exactly does the huge "W" mean in the screen where Maya and Luke solve the puzzle together? I assume the text means something like "CORRECT!" but... with a "W".

In Japanese, the English W is used to mean "double" in some cases, since "double" and W are written the same way in katakana (ダブル). So it's saying "Double Puzzle Solved!" or something to that effect.

Not sure exactly what's going on in this picture, but I believe this is what it looks like when Nick objects to a puzzle:

The first scene happens before they enter the courthouse. Later, it looks like the group is split up by accident somehow. Professor Layton and Maya end up investigating that forest, while Nick and Luke continue looking for Mahone. One way or another, these guys are gonna get in some trouble with the cavalry. (And that milk cart may be suspicious.)

And on the official site, Jordalla's intro mentions that she's a close subordinate of the Story Teller, and has been designated as Chief Prosecutor to oversee Mahone's trial. She's Jeekin's boss, basically.

Apparently, that pirate-like bartender is called Lovely (ラブレ). Despite her looks, she's supposedly a kind and gentle soul; yet, she forces Nick to solve her puzzle... which I can't make heads or tails of. Hopefully those daggers can be moved somehow.

According to Wikipedia (I know, not the most reliable, but I was curious): "Although the game has yet to be officially announced for release outside of Japan, an English-language press release from Capcom at Tokyo Game Show 2011 hints as such."
Was this confirmed by you guys, did I just miss it? Or is this new information? Apologies if I missed it.

Yes, i remember there being one last year (2011 TGS) but nothing this year that i am aware of. There were pictures of it, but i'm not sure where you would be able to find them now. It was also mentioned on the press release that "English name TBC", meaning the the press release could have just been there for the western attendees and western media, so they could understand it easier.

Thank you! Now that you mention it, that kind of rings a bell. I guess I've been more on top of it than I previously realized, haha. Fingers crossed that it gets a release over here eventually!

Maybe when the game will be localized the game will say something like: that answer is Wright?
... On a second thought, maybe this is better as a pun afterwards in dialog.

Well, that might be because she is meant to look more like from the Ace Attorney world, rather than Layton. I'm sure Jeekin, Lady prosecutor and the Story Teller will look as good.

Well, I mean compared to Phoenix or Maya. Maya looks fine most of the time but the 3D version of this looks really strange:

I think it might be because of the shadowing over Maya's eyes, i did think that aswell when i saw it actually. I have to say, Phoenix's shock face looks incredible and hilarious. SO GOOD. :shoe:

Another website update.

http://www.layton-vs-gyakuten.jp/movie/index.html

The new witness is the ship's cook. Her name is Olive al Dente. She seems a little too bright in these circumstances, mentioning a head injury at one point.

I'm not good with Japanese names. Could someone translate the voice actress' name?
