Famitsu's DGS article is just around the corner, and they've put up an article showing off the new rival prosecutor!

His name is being kept under wraps. Here's waiting for the leaks...!

Right then...

WHO HAD EDGEWORTH LOOKALIKE FOR THE PICK YOUR PROSECUTOR?! ROLL UP! PROSECUTOR ANNOUNCED, EDGEWORTH LOOKALIKE CONFIRMED!

I'm a little disappointed that it's basically looks just like a copy of Miles. I wonder if he'll turn out to be Moriarty or something now. Still got a cool point at least. Can always count on GS to find innovative new ways to point at people.

He's being described as the 'death god' of the central prosecutor's something something (too pixelized to read).

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they're hiding his name because it's 'Edgeworth' something. Still looks cool though.

Oh, and could anyone translate his new shout?

Probably due to a great number of death penalities in his career?

Wonder if they'll have "Mort" or "Death" somewhere in his name in some form to fit that title.

It's a bit hard to make out, but I think he's just got a fancy bubble for "Objection!", rather than an entirely new shout.

They're also specifically calling the English trials "jury battles", which... isn't really something we didn't already know from TGS, but given the special term I wonder if the juries will actually effect the court gameplay rather than just be for show.

Think a lot of folks were. Lots of people were betting on the other silhouette in that image being the prosecutor but it turned out to be a detective.

I really hope he isn't Edgeworth's ancestor since I think that would be overdoing it. Plus, wouldn't it make more sense for his ancestor to be a defense attorney?

Anyway, I guess he's called the Grim Reaper according to some guy on reddit

Kinda hope he isn't the Edgeworth ancestor seeing as he came from a line of defense attorneys, unless Ryu Wright is the reason that the Edgeworth line became defense attorneys.

Personally, I'd read that name as "Baroque von Ziques" since it sounds legitimately German.

Any idea where "Takeshi" comes from? I'm drawing a blank.

I couldn't find a reading of 武土 for the life of me, but 武士 can be read "Takeshi". I'm thinking it's either a typo on the leaker's part, or a bit of Takumi playing with kanji.

Also, wouldn't "von" being in there be separated? Like バロック・バン・ジークス? Apparently not. Man, this is Jodora all over again. :yogi:

With the names "Satoshi" and "Takeshi", I'd thought they just threw in some random staff names. I guess we can just stick that to reasonable naming conventions, given the appropriate kanji.

It probably is a typo. "武土" wouldn't make sense in any context... unless by some imaginative stretch, we're talking about earthbending.

武土 could be read as something like Taketo, or Takenori or something like that. Also, 悟 can also be Satoru.

As for the prosecutor's name, if it's supposed to be sorta German-sounding, I think Barock van Siegs is much more likely. Barok being baroque in German. And Sieg(s) is not grammatically correct, but could be derived from sieg (sieg Zeon and all). Though usually, "Van" would be seperate and would be written "ヴァン", I think.

Some ideas for transliterating the name of the prosecutor (starting off with the German idea some people already had).

- Barock van Siegs (German variant. Barock being baroque in German, Siegs taken from "Sieg". "Van" should be "von" in German, but meh)
- Barok van Zieks (Dutch variant. Barok being the word in Dutch. Van is Dutch. Zieks is 'sickening'/'sick', as in 'out of his mind/cool/etc')
An English variant could be Baroque Vanzieks (as the "van" of Dutch names is often stuck to the proper last name in English)
- Baroque Vamzyx (Baroque being Baroque. "Vam" taken from "Vampire". XYZ as in the last letters of the alphabet).

Cravats... I really, really like the design as well as his name. I hope he won't be a Miles/von Karma-carbon copy personality-wise; perhaps the design resembles the one of Edgeworth a bit too much but... I can't be disappointed, he looks fantastic and I feel so shallow. :acro:

I agree the name looks kinda weird at first sight, but I think it might be better to move away from the Van/Von names for now, as there's no indication whatsoever that the prosecutor has any German/Dutch roots. Also, considering Takumi's own comments on the name, I think 'Vamxyz' isn't that bad :P

He thinks the actual origin of the name is too embarrassing to divulge. And considering they had Rivaal as a name for a long time...

But on the subject: I know very well that there are many, many ways of transliterating the name, but I wish that people would use internally consistent versions. For example, why use the spelling Baroque (instead of Barock or Barok), coupled with a German/Dutch-sounding last name (with a Van/Von)? Or why go with a German/Dutch-sounding name in the first place, if there's no indication of him not being completely English in his Englishness? Heck, even his objection font was created to be "English". I think transliterations for these weird Takumi names are easy to remember if there's some logic/reason behind that particular spelling.

Baroque is a form of music yes? The old European ballroom style with Harpsicords and the like.

A period of a certain (exaggerated, larger-than-life) artistical style; music, yes (although I'm not certain if I would call it ballroom style, it was often quite dramatical), but also paintings, architecture, sculptures, theatre, etc. Although, the word was at the very first used to describe the music of that period.

I know what baroque is, what I mean is that I don't think the name looks right if you choose the English spelling of the word (baroque), in combination with a German or Dutch-looking last name (for example, Van/Von Siegs or Van Zieks or whatever). Why not use the word as it is spelled in those languages (Barock (German) or Barok (Dutch))? It looks like classic muziek to me. On the other hand, if we want to use Baroque (as in: the English word), then I think a more English-looking last name would be more appropiate than the "Van XXX" variants.

Ah, I didn't direct that at you, if the "I know what baroque means" was for me, that is. It was a reply to "Baroque is a form of music yes?"

I didn't mean to sound like I just came out of nowhere going "well, baroque means...", haha...
