Let me jump in here to confirm, what i was saying.

DD uses MT Framework Mobile, it says on the back of the Japanese box.

MT Framework Mobile is owned by Capcom. Level 5 did not use it for Layton VS PW:AA, there fore they cannot use the model from Dual Destinies outside of the MT Framework Mobile engine.

Then i said that the Layton VS AA Phoenix model fits very well in the game, and is very nice :)

So the missing fact in your logic is:
  • You cannot use a 3d model made for a different engine

This is known to be false. Converters exist and artists use common formats, not engine specific formats.

I don't see why they're using a different engine, the framework is basically the same (I think) :lana:

MT Framework appears to only be used in Capcom-developed games, so I'm guessing they don't allow licensing. Plus, Level-5 already has a 3DS game engine with Professor Layton stuff from Miracle Mask (or at least it was in development when PL vs. AA started and matured by MM's release in 2012), while at the time there was no 3DS game engine with Ace Attorney stuff from Capcom, so it makes sense to build off of what already existed.

And I have no idea what Level-5 uses as the engine for the 3D Professor Layton games, but it is most likely significantly different from MT Framework. Even if they happen to be similar, there's still going to be differences. Not that a conversion is impossible, but it wouldn't be trivial.

Yeah i know nothing about how engines work, just that as DD was made with MT Framework, Level 5 would have to go out of their way to licence a copy of the model and port it to their own engine, when they have their own (refined) engine from MM that works perfectly fine. Also, remember that VS came before GS5, so it would make no sense to use a different model for the localised version, it would look... Ridiculous. Considering Level 5 would also have to add extra animations to capcoms model, and they are more Layton-esque in VS.

Yeah the style would clash too much and would not work, even though the DD one looks better.

That's cool that GS5 uses MT Framework. Resident Evil Revelations used it and it looked amazing on the 3ds, especially anti-aliasing, something missing from a lot of 3ds games. (In fact, I don't even like Resident Evil, I mainly bought it for the graphics).

Great News! So glad that it will make it to Europe too.

I'm also hoping that this game will give the Ace Attorney series some boost in the Western Hempisphere.
PL is quite popular, so this might attract some new people to the Ace Attorney series that never heard of it before. :will:

Yeah in this situation I actually prefer the old logo. It not only has the nostalgia factor but also puts "Phoenix Wright" at the focus, rather than "Ace Attorney".

Because let's be honest, everyone who isn't a hardcore AA fan usually refers to the games as "Phoenix Wright" games.

I wonder if the game will get a true title when they release more info? "Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney" is a mouthful. Plus the "VS" is going to confuse everyone who doesn't know the plot of the game. Also, the logo won't be on the cover art, as that should stay the same as the one in Japan...it's too awesome not to have it.

That is the title, like it or not. I don't see how it's any more of a mouthful than, say, "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Duel Destinies", and I think even the most unaware people would be able to read the description of the game to find out what the title refers to. Besides, this is most certainly the sort of title that's aimed squarely at the fanbases.

As for the cover art, I really can't say. Maybe they'll do a double-sided cover with and without the logo or something.

I think people will get confused and think that the Professor is facing off against Phoenix, which is not the case...
I hope they keep the Japanese cover art, it looks really good...
EDIT: After looking at the box art, I realized both logos are on there. I feel stupid. :udgy:

Both protagonists' index fingers collide in the middle of an epic pointing duel, resulting in a huge explosion.

Calling it now.

What would they change VS to then? I'm curious.

Having the subtitle 'Ace Attorney' for this series was arguably dumb and overly long to start with, let alone taglines like 'Dual Destinies' (especially when there really 3 protagonists). They can't really change it now. It's the copyrighted logo/brand.

Yeah I've never been that happy with "Ace Attorney".

I'd much rather it be "PL Vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney" than "PL Vs Ace Attorney".

SO. SO. SO. SO. EXCITED.
:maya:

(muffled fangirl screams)

You know, the reason I even got into the ace attorney games is that I was a fan of Professor Layton(and still am), and heard about the crossover(this was like 3 years ago, mind you).

Then for Christmas one year, I got one of those mega-cartridges for the DS that have like 100 games and may be slightly illegal(shh) and lo and behold, all 5 games(PW-AAI) were on there. The rest after that was history, of course.

:sob: Now I have to wait till 2014...
I am so judging things based on narrow-minded cultural assumptions.

Well, considering the series NOW is bigger than JUST Phoenix, Ace Attorney makes more sense as a title.
Nicks not the sole main protag anymore, and to use HIS name as that monicker for the franchise is misleading.

I think this game will be awesome. As for the art style I'll admit I like DDs art style a bit better but I think this one is good as well

Well, Phoenix is the only one representing the series, along with Maya, who isn't a main protagonist.
I just don't like how long the title is, but whatever...

The art style is a blend of the Layton and Ace Attorney artworks. It actually looks a little more Layton-ish to me, but I think it works well.
And yes, this game is going to be amazing.
