It's a PROPER new story, location (era) and cast. And hopefully Takumi has the creative freedom he was denied when 'tied down' in making jurist propaganda etc. in GS4. (and also in PL vs PW he still had to work with the Layton characters).
Of course since the new protagonist is a variation on Phoenix's name, what will they call him IF it's localised?

Nicholas. Peter. Maybe, although I highly doubt it and this is kind of a fun example, they'll call him Suzaku after the red phoenix of the south. But I doubt it, too Japanese and all. I still think that's a stupid reason to not localize something.

IMO a 2D sprite 3DS title could have just as good 3D visuals as Dual Destinies (which honestly didn't have a very good 3D effect IMO. The characters didn't have enough 3D depth when the slider was on "full")
I'd love to see that high-quality artwork from Kazuya Nuri from the trailer be completely animated in hand-drawn sprites! Remember, meanwhile AA6 will probably just reuse the Dual Destinies engine and have 3D polygonal models. We've got that covered :)

Honestly, the 3D engine on the 3DS kinda sucks. It doesn't matter what game you play on it; it's 3D models being displaced from their 2.5D backgrounds with the slider on, and you should never set it on "full" for the sake of your eyes.
Thank goodness Nuri is back again. His art style is one of the best for this series. Actually, 2D sprites on a 2.5D background could work. It'd remind me of those traditional paper puppet theater dramas. If I recall correctly, they've done something similar in an Okami game before...

Now this is more like it! It sounds like there'll actually be a clear difference between her and Maya, who would never even pretend to be a "high-class lady". She's probably still going to be a plucky teenager, but as long as she's not a complete Maya clone, I'll be happy.

I always thought that having "nosuke" at the end of a name makes it sound old. So what I think is that it is basically Phoenix's name but just older sounding.

The thing is, "-suke" is a really generic suffix for boys' names in Japanese. You could compare it to the "-son" part of someone called "Johnson" or "Jackson" and such.

Well, they are different because they're different names, but the suke part is the same. Anyway, having suke or nosuke in a name would suggest youth, not age. Granted, calling your kid "Naninosuke" is a little more old-fashioned than just "Nanisuke", but it's not a big difference.

I hate to be pessimistic, but I would imagine that this will not get localized, based on the very specific setting. However, if Dual Destinies did really well I could see getting this. The problem is we still don't know how it did, and we don't have anyone like Sven to ask about this stuff. I also feel like the absence of an announcement for the Original Trilogy re-release is a bad sign, as that would have seemed to be a really cheap way to make some more money off the franchise. The fact that we haven't heard anything about it coming out here worries me.
(Also, to be quite honest, considering DD/GS5 was the AA game I'd wanted since getting into the series, and considering that I kind of burned myself out on AA by playing all of the games in a row nonstop, I'm not filled with immense excitement for this at the moment. If we hear a localization announcement, or in a few months when I'm out of AA overload, I'll be just as obsessed with this game's development as GS5's.)
P.S.: I feel like I've said this stuff regarding this game on the forum, and am having massive deja vu, however when searching my posts I don't see any posts relating to this in the last month, so if I made a mistake and I already posted my thoughts, I apologize.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

I've the feeling I've already answered the question somewhere, but that was Capcom's EdoTan (Edo + Tantei), set somewhere in the Edo/Tokugawa period (i.e. the 400 year period before the Meiji period).

Trailer looks interesting (though of course I cant understand it)... they'll probably go with "darker/serious but slightly quirky" tone I think. I dunno, maybe they could tie it into modern AA somehow with Phoenix reading about his ancestor.
