I gotta say, I love Phoenix's new look (aka the VEST). Very sad it's not Apollo in the lead, but not unexpected. I hope he's still in there somehow, and they haven't forgotten all the loose ends from AJ. Please let him appear at TGs!!

Amazing thing to come to, and only a night after watching the movie. :-) Glad to see Phoenix back in the courtroom. Graphics look better than I expected (though I know we could have some real nice Blazblue looking graphics if it remained handdrawn but no biggie) can't wait.

*ahem* So happy to hear this news. I'm just glad to see that this game exists. As much as I liked Apollo, you'll hear no objections from me about having Phoenix back on the bench.
And he even has that fancy new vest... I wonder if our good friend Miles Edgeworth had something to do with that.. hmm.

The way capcom's been acting lately, I have my doubts as to whether overseas people are going to ever see this thing. I could be wrong, but w/e.
Otherwise, great news that they pulled what Iga did with Castlevania (was it Adventures?) and seemingly eliminated that story. We'll find out in GS5 that Apollo Justice was just an hallucination or something.
I'm interested in what Maya's roll (if any) will be in this game. I'm going to guess that Brown-haired girl has some special power that will replace the magatama or something.

The thing is, the whole AAI2 thing was over a minor game in the series. AA5 is a main game in the series, and right after PL vs. AA cross-over, which means an expanded fan base. We'll be getting this game.
And that would be a very unfortunate retcon. I'd rather they address the questions that AJ brought up. The game's ending did leave it open for Phoenix to re-apply to the bar.

Gotta wonder how this will impact the others. It's set after AJ, so there's no excuse to not show the character from that game. Now that Phoenix is back in business, Trucy no longer has the pivotal, money-earning role in the family, and Apollo has "competition" in the take of defense requests in the Wright Anything Agency now. What will happen? Is the place going to become a law office and Trucy will take up law? Are they going to be characters deeply involved with the mysteries to come? Are they going to have a whole different future? I'll be very upset if Apollo and Trucy are not around, or their characters retconned, but I'll still look forward to see how the game is, what the mechanics are, and other merits appliable. It's still Ace Attorney.
Again, exciting times. Let's rejoice.

TBH I'm a little dissappointed Apollo's nowhere to be seen, I hope he shows up somewhere.
But I'm happy that Phoenix has another shot at the limelight, with such a handsome redesign to boot!
The graphics look stunning! I know some might miss having sprites, but the 3D looks great anyway
The pinecone girl's name is Shinobu...something. I'm not sure how to read 森澄. I think ApollozJustice is right about her being a nature lover, not only with her design but also with her name containing the kanji for "forest".
Also Payne's brother is called Fumitake. According to my dictionary, the kanji mean "literary and military arts"?
Edit: Oh wait you guys already got the names lol. 遅かったよ...

I'm kinda disappointed that Polly isn't the main character (I do love Nick a lot more, but from a story perspective...) but after the amazing job with GK2, I trust them.

I really would have liked to see Apollo carry the torch into AA5, but I'm glad we're getting a game regardless.
The new characters look pretty cool, but I'm wondering what happened with Maya and all that stuff. Hopefully there will be some light shed, but who knows?
And also, hoping for a release out of Japan, but given what Capcom has done the past couple of years, I don't know.
So, to summarize, I'm conflicted.

I can't really think of something that is related to her character description. The best things I can come up with now, are just reading her name as is (Morisumi -> Pure Forest), or maybe read her name with different kanji like 森住忍, shinobi living in a forest.

1. Apollo isnt the main character. At first I was disappointed, but after seeing the new art and the story details it seems theyre not just pretending AJ didnt happen. There is no question he must be in the game though. Its not like AA to forget characters or major unresolved plot points so im not too worried. I had always looked at AJ as a transition from Phoenix to Apollo, but AJ also works as another phoenix tale, despite apollo being screwed over a bit in the process. Apollo better get a major role.
2. Because phoenix is the main character, though, i think this means theres a much greater chance of getting it in America, if only because layton vs AA is coming out.
3. I know theres some controversy about Takumi not being directly involved, but i think that might be a good thing. I got the feeling he was done with the series maybe by trials and tribulations and totally by apollo justice (it was built a lot like a finale) so his creative spirit might not have been in it. Also, AAI was really really good, so I have no worries GS5 will be great too.
4. Jurist system? Whats going on with that? I hope they dont just forget about it.
Overall, really excited. And i think that when you compare the situations of AAI2 and GS5 (AAI2 a spinoff sequel on a dying system with no advertising) with gs5 (a new game in the main series on a new system starring the face of the series who also happens to be in a sure to be best selling game) the chances of localization are really hopeful

Don't write it off just for that. Takumi wasn't a part of AAI or AAI2 either, and those games were good (by personal experience for AAI and by secondhand experience from AAI2. I don't know Japanese).

To say the least, I don't consider this a very strong move narrative-wise, at least by first impressions. I expect substantial exposition that justifies this change.
Otherwise I think we're going to see even more fallout than we did with Apollo Justice. It looks to me they still want to use a new cast but with an old protagonist. That suggests a lot of friction and people's hopes being dashed by old faces not appearing where they want them to. Doing it with Apollo, who's still pretty fresh-faced and is still kind of a blank slate character, makes more sense to me.
But it's still early...I SUPPOSE anything can happen. I'll just say it's a rocky start, at least in my book.
