As lucky as I am about this announcement (and as fast as I will be buying a 3DS which I do not own yet :knock-knock: ) as puzzled am I about GS5 being announced this quickly whereas GK2 is still on... well, however you could call its status.

Actually I am lucky and dsappointed now at the same time. Did GK really sell THIS bad? Is GK2 treated this strangely because it is a DS game while GS5 will be for 3DS? Really, I don't get it.

*sigh* But yeah, I am lucky about GS5.

What I've undesrtood goes something like this (if I got it right, I mean)
1. None of the AA games were that big sellers here in the west. Sad thing is that I also hit the serie by accident, when I was buying just SOMETHING new to play with my DS. Lucky me for once though.
2. Mystery novels and games like that aren't that great hit here in the west. Sure, people like drama and mysteries here, but...multiplayer FPS's...That's pretty much what sells here, which I myself (as a action/adventure/platform fan) am kinda sad about.

EDIT: Wooo-hooo! Post 3210!
History has been made again.
Next time I celebrate like this, is when I have 43.210 messages. <3

I think you're kinda making numbers up. GS1DS Sold something near 150,000 units in Japan, and 100,000 in the US.

Additionally, Aren't the total overall {known} figures for AA in the west overall under the 4.0 Mill mark anyway? :eh?:

GK2 also came out at a really bad time, right at the end of the DS's life.

............ I was gonna say how great it is that it'll come out in Europe and that I can play it, but then I remembered that I have a Japanese 3DS (F"=%ING REGIONAL CODE!!), so either I will have to import the game - cost about 50-60€, I guess. Or buy a european 3DS and the game, which might end up with 300€.

Seriously, I had one - and before it was stolen, I loved it to bits...I'll definitely have no qualms rebuying one.
The stigma that the console is fatally flawed and/or undergamed is really one that needs to be addressed, TBH.

Bah. The stigma surrounding the 3DS is nowhere near as bad as the one surrounding the Vita. Now THAT handheld is fatally flawed with the lack of games it's got under its belt.

Well my only problem with the 3DS has always been.... I'm skint. The cheapest ones I've seen are just short of £100 and even that's a bit too expensive for me at the moment.

I WILL buy one though when this comes out because no way am I missing out.

The Vita is seriously lacking any real convincing firepower right now because it's still relatively new, but it'll have it's 3DS-alike makeup time so it's hard to write it off entirely...Persona 4 Golden is a good start and a DAMN good purchase for anyone, but it's not a totally large system shifter, and the Vita just lacks any good ones right now and in the immediate future...

but time 'Turned that around' for the 3DS, so perhaps that'll strike it lucky too within the next 18 months.

I'll admit, the only reason I own a 3DS is because there was a one day window where one could get the price drop AND the ambassador program. Were it not for that, I'd likely still not own one, and then I wouldn't have enjoyed the pure slapstick 4th wall destroying dialog that's in Kid Icarus.

I forget exactly why I had a 3DS. I remember it bought at Target and there was a "buy 2, get 1" deal going on at the time on 3DS games.

So I got the 3DS, Super Mario 3D Land, Resident Evil: Revelations, and Kid Icarus: Uprising. But I don't remember much beyond that.

So we're reminiscencing our 3DS's now?
..Okay.

I bought mine as a pre-order. I had lot's of extra cash back then so I also pre-ordered some games for it on the same go.
(Out of those I'm still waiting for Luigis Mansion 2 and Paper Mario 3DS.)

Decided I should get one, since DS is my favorite console, and I liked an update finally since I still had that original DS.
NO lite, no DSi...Just the original. And now the original 3DS.

I also bought it since I liked some games it had.
Obviously Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Kingdom Hearts DDD
And of course MGS Snake Eater & Ocarina of Time and Rayman 2 3D, none of these I had never played before.

I still haven't bought a 3DS. I might be thinking about a 3DS XL since I'm so used to my DSi XL. I'm actually just waiting for a new Pokemon limited edition version and I know there is one already but yellow's not my color...

Google that - it's a status that allows particular 'longer owning' owners of the 3DS to claim free games owing to having missed out on the original price cuts but having proven to have been 'long term' users instead...there's a few good games on the program, but I can't remember all of the details.

Basically shortened, it's a loyalty reward system for 3DS owners of a particular period of time. :phoenix:

I didn't have a good reason to buy one, other than I had a bunch of trade-in credit at Gamestop and the nostalgic gold box art for Ocarina of Time was too tempting to pass up. (This was right after the price drop so the price was more realistic) I really shouldn't have bought it then, for a couple reasons. For one thing, this was still when the 3DS' model was still hacing issues with the bottom screen cutting into the front screen. I eventually super glued erasers to the top of the top screen. The biggest issue was that, at that time, there were no other games for someone my age that I wanted to play. I eventually went through and found used copies of some DS games I overlooked, like Hotel Dusk and Trace Memory [I really like Hotel Dusk, didn't like Trace Memory].

A couple of months before that, I made the stupid mistake of selling a bunch of DS games, including my four AA games (I didn't own AAI at this point]. I had heard about AAI [and had experienced first hand 4 years of no GS5 news] and just assumed that the series was dead, at least in America. I should have kept them anyway, but I wasn't thinking.

Flashforward back to my first days with the 3DS. I only owned 2 or 3 games, and I asked to borrow a family member's copy of AAI and got obsessed with AA again. [This is why I'm fine with the AAI team doing GS5; It was really well done and I think that any storyline/character issues was more an issue with how the story had to be (between two games, fan demand for original trilogy cameos) than the writers themselves.] So after completing investigations I went around my county to a bunch of different stores, rebuying the four games and buying myself a copy of AAI. They've kept me busy for a year, and in the time since some really great 3DS games have come out. (I'm going through Metal Gear Solid 3D right now).

And now we have GS5. So I guess its good I bought one.

If you look at the capcom forums here http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/ ... ost_num=18
Sven says this:
Quote:
Glad you guys are happy. I told you not to worry about the future of AA in the West. It's been in the plan for about two years.

I'm a little confused as to what he means about the two years thing. Is he talking about AA in general, or has GS5 been in dev. for 2 years? Or do they somehow mean something to do with a localization? (But they couldn't have worked on that since the script isn't finalized yet if I'm not mistaken)
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

Sometimes I guess it takes more than you expect to convince Japan the west wants something...or perhaps it was set two years ago, and only now is really starting to be pieced together fully. At this point, could mean a whole lot.

People on the forum before were talking about a worldwide release, and at first that quote made me think maybe that was possible, but in that interview posted recently they said that they have the "plot" pretty much done, which makes me think the Script is nowhere from begin completed. So that's not a very realistic possibility.

But maybe it means development has been going on for a while, which means Japan (and later down the road, us) will get it sooner.

So I was right...Capcom isn't sorry about not bringing over Gyakuten Kenji 2 and now they quietly brush it away and hope we all forget about it.

...

Maybe I should just give in and go along with their plan...it might make me happy again.

ya know, they've attached AAI2's future as being hooked up with AA1/2/3 iOS edition.

They haven't given up at all, but they ARE clearly tentatively uncertain of the market they want to do the game as...and if that means it ends up as an iOs Game, then so be it - at least it'd make it here at all.

It sounds like the only chance we really have of seeing AAI2 is on iOS. Or whatever system gets a AAI2 rerelease in Japan.

As upset as I was with AAI2, I was far more concerned about GS5. I was really worried the main series wouldn't get localized. I have a feeling when GS5 comes out and AA gets popular again we might see more options for GK2.

Imagine the news of the Gyakuten Saiban 5 localization as a huge stage show. There are fireworks, confetti cannons, and a loud stereo blaring celebratory music. A Capcom USA rep is on stage shouting things like "YES! IT IS COMING! WE ARE BRINGING ACE ATTORNEY 5 TO YOU!!!" People rush over to the stage to rave and swoon at the fanfare.

But all this is taking place not too far from a pile of garbage lying over off to the side...up until the stage was set up, we were all complaining about the smell and how someone needed to do something about it...but once the stage was set up, we all got distracted by it and stopped noticing. Yes, that trash pile was the loss of the Gyakuten Kenji 2 localization.

But I still smell it...I still want someone to clean it up... ;_; It'd be easier to enjoy the main event if it wasn't sitting there...

Yeah I understand what you mean, and I'm obviously still upset we didn't get it. I'm just glad the series isn't dead. As much as I like AAI, the subseries is nowhere near as important to me as the main one, mainly because I played Apollo Justice first and have been waiting for years to see what comes after. But I still am annoyed at the whole situation, and hope an iOS release will happen soon. I think it was understandable why they didn't release it, but I think it could have been handled a lot better and I think if they have a chance they will rectify it, if only to make more money.

While I do understand Japanese to a certain extent, I am much better at it when it's spoken - or I get the furigana above the difficult kanji. So unspoken dialogue can be a bit difficult for me to get the gist of it, although Logic  helps me with that!

Actually I'm currently trying to play GK2 Case 1 and obviously I have to point out on the map where the shots came from. But no matter where I point, it's wrong... urgh! Then again that Logic Chess is still confusing me...

In regards to 3DS stories, I got mine for my birthday (July 10th) last year. I wanted to play Tales of the Abyss 3DS, but I lacked a 3DS and that whole regional code thing, so I managed to persuade my mom to make the game + imported handheld my birthday gift.
.... about 400€, most expensive birthday gift I ever got. My mom wasn't all too happy about it, but I sure was. Not counting the converter we had to buy so I could charge it without frying it.

But if I do have to get a 3DS for GS5 (and some other games I've wanted to import for a while, although DoA remains Japanese voiced, horray!) I might get an XL one...
